Ok, We Americans Get It - All Cute Girls in Europe Ride Bikes Everywhere, Wearing Cute Clothes, All Day!, Berlin

Labels:

On the Street..... Swede & Sartorial , Ostermalm, Stockholm

To me this is a perfect blend of classic italian tailoring with a modern , almost Jil Sanderesque, treatment. Bravo! Very Well Done!

On the Street..... Swede Vintage, Sodermalm, Stockholm

I love how this gentleman has really used vintage to play with proportions - baggy pants, tiny jacket and yet it doesn't have that slightly "musty" feel that a lot of vintage looks have.

On the Street..... V&R H&M Trench, Stockholm

The Swedes are so proud of H&M that they make it look really great.
It reminds me of how Americans felt about Gap/Banana Republic back in the Nineties.

I have said before i am conflicted about H&M here in NYC because the shops are so big and messy but I think I will give them a second chance.

The stores in the US seem so much larger than the European units which make them much harder to maintain. Maybe as they expand here they will make smaller units that they can control; better.

I would love if the coolness factor that they have in Sweden could translate a little better here - we need it because I don't see Gap turning it around any time soon.

I guess I will always have J.Crew.

Anyway this young lady makes her V&R H&M trench look great and she had grey gloves that matched her grey shoes ( matchy in a good way)

My Disappointment with Stockholm

Since I began posting images from Stockholm I have received a lot of comments like this

"Hm, in stureplan/östermalm, this is so ordinary that I'm getting tired in the eyes just by looking at the picture. It's like that scene in the second matrix movie with all the Agent Smith clones, in stockholm you have 200 of this guy around you all the time and that's pretty annoying after a while.

A lot of swedes has a great sense of fashion though, but you find most of them in Södermalm/SoFo. "

Comments like this reek of "reverse classism" or if you have a look that is a bit "refined and uptown" then it must lack any originality or creativity . I think this is a really crappy attitude.

Sodermalm is a great neighborhood with great style but it makes the people there look small if they think they are the only stylish people in all of Stockholm.

Style is not a win/lose game. Believe me that the people in Sodermalm could learn something from Ostermalm in how to work with color and texture and Ostermalm could learn from Sodermalm about new proportions and how to mix references.

I won't let these images from Stockholm (which are numerous and really great) to be turned into a contest for which neighborhood is better. Both are great and Swedes should be very proud of this.

Rant over - now back to the fun.

What a perfect combination of hi-waisted pants and short waisted jacket!

On the Street..... Sodermalm, Stockholm

I think this is an unusually high level of sophistication for such a young lady AND she did it without spending a lot on designer labels.
- Plush textured coat with an interesting collar and it is not a trench which is the coat of the moment here.
- great dress that is short and has a young feel but still very good design details
- brilliant choice of dark plum tights
- a shoe with just enough height
- great hair

Young ladies like this, with this level of style, make hipsters seem a bit tired to me.

You're on notice East Village and Nolita - it's time to raise your game!
