I love how this gentleman has really used vintage to play with proportions - baggy pants, tiny jacket and yet it doesn't have that slightly "musty" feel that a lot of vintage looks have.

I've been quite disappointed about your choices of Stockholm pictures this far, but this one is stunning.Love how his hair matches the shoes. But the thing that does it is obviously the pants, they are so perfect that you don't know what to do about it, heh.
He looks nice and it has a 'fresh' feel to it.

This is the best kind of dressing--stylish but without pushing it; and he didn't spend a jillion bucks to make it happen.
Turning up the pants, and turning them up to just the right length, was a stroke of genius. And the scarf's great, too.
what a cute guy! so much of a great look is attitude and accessories and this guy has both going for him in his easy, relaxed way.

Head to toe, love it! Wish American men could wear scarves with that degree of panache. For most of us, it just looks contrived.

I love everything about the guy except maybe, the roll-up pants. Love his hair, smile, day old stubble, jacket, t-shirt, shoes, and posture.
No disappointment here. I have very much enjoyed your posts from Stockholm. I love the relaxed, more natural feel that everyone seems to possess in their choices of style. Living in Italy I sometimes see the strongest contrast of that. I love the seam that runs down the front of his much loved shoes...sono belli!
Good pick. Every time I see this young man I get into that special fin de siècle feel. The hair and the rolled up throusers really does it. Sometimes he accentuates with a thin leather briefcase. The interesting clash lies within his age vs his style.
just wondering if you're planing to go to goyhemburg as well as stockholm? i really think you'd like it here. It may not be a city just as terndy as stockholm if you look at the over all impression but there are more styles her. People stand out. Anyways i'd love to see some pictures from my home town on your wonderful blog!

yeah...i'm not so sure. i do like the colors, but the oversized pants are all bunched up...i wonder if he looks as cool walking down the sidewalk, with those cuffs banging around. i like that scarf though.
THe clean, well groomed look works successfully with this slightly shabby, slightly mixed look.
The Swedes look happy, unlike the Berliners.
Fashion-wise, well, it is all run of the mill. Just ordinary stuff. Stuff that people wear everyday, everywhere.
It is the Swedes' obvious healthy, well being which is noteworthy.

The guy in the picture is my big brother. The scarf is made by his girlfriend, Sofia-Li, studying fashion at Beckmans school of design. The shoes are from Hush Puppies. It´s fun to see that people like his outfit.

hee, stockholmer here (expat) are you still shooting? have you left already? I'll have my eyes peeled for an American accosting Swedes with his camera.
Swedes tend to be color shy, in my opinion. Most people are very fashion conscious, but as my friend pointed out there is a right fashion that many adhere too, one sees very few original outfits here. Many of the Swedish hipsters remind me of Williamsburg which I think is a bit of a pity since the Swedes are such a naturally good looking people from the start which hipster fashions tend to obscure their fair Nordic looks.
The reason so many American men can't wear fashionable scarves properly is not because they don't know how; it's because it is not contextually apt. Would this young man look so dapper in front of a strip mall? Or perhaps in his S.U.V. going through the Starbucks drive-thru?

Well, first we're a huge country--which American men do you have in mind? City or not? Let us, therefore, immediately eliminate non-urban guys, who are unlikely to be much involved with last-word style.
As for the others, well, they're hampered by the usual suspect: a puritanical fear of dressing in a "non-masculine" way, which is to say, in a way that would draw-attention to themselves as someone interested in clothes, and/or dressing a way that might suggest gayness. Too sad, but too true.
He looks so fresh and clean and stylish, even with baggy pants - which is tricky to do. But I would like to see him move to make up my mind about the pants.
The other aspect about American Men's fashion you have to take into account (and Butch touches on) is simply the enormity of our country and the variety of climates (and seasons).
Typically, what you'll see from this site in American Men's fashion is New York City (both East Side and SoHo as well as a mix of others), but very much NYC-oriented trends (not a bad thing necessarily). What you forget is that something as simple (and beautiful) as that Swedish young man's knit scarf is out of place/out of season/out of style during different windows of time that you may be viewing pictures here on this site.
The U.S. has very warm climates through most of the country for a significant portion of the year. Also, NYC would give you more of a "Serious" look on the Upper East Side/Manhattan in the Fall/Winter when you might see this look. And in the SoHo area this look might be too buttoned up/not trendy enough. An extreme example, is that in the Southern U.S. it's too hot to pretty much ever wear this scarf. On the other hand, that look would readily be seen in Boston, Massachusetts amongst university students and young commuters.
I could never point out all the caveats here, but I am trying to point out that you have to take your impressions and filter them through multiple lenses of Americana before being able to say something works/doesn't work in the U.S.
nothing about this outfit or photograph could be improved upon. perfection! very simple, but still one of my favorites.
The street is so clean, it's kind of freaking me out. Then again, I'm a New Yorker...

I don't live in sweden anymore but this photo made me wanna come back! Over all everything you have posted from Stockholm made me realise what I really miss, people with a good sense of style. Where I currently live they are just terrible at it..

I'm surprised by how many people like the shoes. They're right for this outfit, but with any other they'd be atrocious.
If rolled up sleeves mean "get down to work", then rolled up pants must mean "on the go"! No excess ankle drapery is gonna trip up this sprightly art student!
