Charvet Event At Saks San Francisco - part 2

Not only is the Paris Charvet store's second floor packed with fabrics but it is very much a true workroom with a large cutting table and patterns that are adjusted right on the customer.

The selection of bow ties and pocket squares is mind-blowing

I received a few emailed questions wanting to know when Charvet will create a website or start e-commerce. Jean-Claude said that his main concern is color accuracy of the computer images on a website, He is very proud of the high standards of his customers and will wait until he feels confident that the technology is perfected enough that what he shows on a website is what will ship to his customer.
He actually has already done quite a bit of research on the subject and even suggested a Photoshop book to me. I'm guessing that when the Charvet site is ready it will have been worth the wait.

Charvet's Jean-Claude Colban Personal Appearance At Bergdorf Goodman

Last Friday night I was lucky enough to attend an intimate dinner for Charvet's Jean-Claude Colban that was hosted by the super-fabulous Michael Bastian and the equal fab Margaret Spaniolo , Senior VP, GMM of Bergdorf Goodman. I had a chance to sit next to Jean-Claude and considering that his family has owned Charvet for years and he is full of great stories, we talked for hours and fashion never came up - that is really weird for me! We talked about the internet ( I'm humbled to say he is a big fan of The Sartorialist), food, travel, food, books, food, and kids, a lot about kids and food.

I always expect people from really old companies to be a little out of touch with modern culture but I think a reason Charvet stays relevant is because Jean-Claude is so interested in what is modern. He told me about using one of his kids amime sketches as an inspiration for a Charvet tie pattern -to me, that's pretty cool.

Charvet Event At Saks San Francisco - part 1

Mr. Colban (right) with Saks buyer Bill Wynne
I visited and took a few photos at the Charvet store while I was in Paris for the women's collections. I used some of the photos to illustrate our event.
This little corner of the Paris store really captures the essence of luxury and elegance that is Charvet.

The event was so great and it was wonderful to meet so many of my San Francisco readers . Thanks to everyone that came out. I will write more detail about the event for tonight's post but I wanted to get these first shots up this morning..

I'm so excited to announce my first New York event will be at Saks Fifth Avenue this October 17th from 6:30 pm to 8:00pm and will feature an interview with menswear designer Michael Bastian.

As you all know I'm a big fan of Michael Bastians work and it will be fun to grill him in front of a live audience about the success of his debut collection.
I will also take a few questions from the audience and (like the Charvet event) I will ask Michael a few questions that have been emailed to my blog (put Michael Bastian in the subject line of your emailed question). Please make sure to email your questions before the 17th.

Time table
Reception 6:30 to 7:pm
Presentation 7:00 to 8 pm

Of course I will also be taking photos at the event so please come in a good mood and with a big smile. I have already met quite a few of my New York-area readers and I hope to meet even more at this event.

The Sartorialist / Saks Fifth Avenue Windows and Events

I am so proud to announce that The Sartorialist is going to be featured in the windows of Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City from October 16th-23rd !!!

I just finished selecting the images before I left for Europe and I have to say I'm pretty excited. It is like my first retrospective. I tried to choose a really great mix of styles/ races/ages etc except it is all mens images which brings me to my next announcement.

Beginning in San Francisco on Saturday the 14th of October I will begin a series of events with Saks Fifth Avenue - a kind of "An Evening with The Sartorialist featuring....". The first in San Fran will Jean-Claude Colban of Charvet.

I will conduct a short interview with Jean-Claude, the audience can ask questions, and I will present Jean-Claude with questions that have been emailed to me before the event. Of course I will photograph the event and the (hopefully super-stylish) audience and will post the replies of Jean-Claude to the questions you have emailed.

The second event will be at Saks New York with Michael Bastian on Oct 17th.

Michael is very passionate about his work and his journey to his current position of hot(tie) New York menswear designer is actually quite interesting.
Again I hope we have a great turn out of The Sartorialist fans. I will announce any further events as they are confirmed.

If these events go well they could expand for the Spring and give me a chance to not only visit more stores but also to shoot for my blog in even more cities around the United States.

The Sartorialist "Must Have" List For Summer 2006

It is much more difficult to be a Sartorialist in the melting heat of summer than any other season of the year.

To beat the heat, I asked one of the coolest guys I know , Tommy Fazio - the new Fashion Director of Bergdorf Goodman Men's, to put together a list of what I should be looking to buy for this summer.

1. The perfect 2-button cotton suit in tan. When well tailored, all men look Professional, Stylish and most of all handsome. This suit can take you thru all occasions in the spring/summer season.

2. The perfect wing-tip brown shoe. Nothing says style more than a well-polished wing tip. Worn with your suit pant just the right length, with or without socks, it looks stylish and modern.

3. Aviator sunglasses. All guys looks great in an aviator sunglasses. Oliver Peoples has the best new shape. Smaller in size and so chic.

4. Charvet custom-made shirt. Fits like a dream and shows a sense of style and confidence.

5. The Bergdorf Goodman rice stitch v-neck sweater in navy. The perfect weight for all seasons. The new basic for men.
