Incredible combination of color and style. The mismatched socks and the hat do it for me!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:50 PM) :

Too much going on from a sartorial perspective, but the typical Parisian café furniture makes this pic a French classic. The modern Robert Doisneau?

I love this too. Everything about it. Especially her scarf and the way her hat is perched on her head so insouciantly.

Anonymous proletarian Great Gatsby said ... (1:22 PM) :

How can this colour-blind mix of colors & the ethnic element (the scarf) & the feet with independent thought and taste not result naif? She get it. She's valiant.

Now,where should I start?

Anonymous beautiful nothing said ... (1:51 PM) :

Such a richly personal look, especially the worn, weathered leather shoes and messenger bag; she's clearly been loving them a while and they've got patina. The navy fedora is a unique topper, and that scarf! Also dig the mismatched-color but coordinating-patterned argyle socks.

It's like she took the classics and tilted them sideways. Neat.

Blogger Beth said ... (1:57 PM) :

I really adore this outfit, it's one of the best I've seen in a while! I'm going to Paris next week and this picture has made me all excited!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:30 PM) :

I also think she's trying too hard.
I like the top part of the outfit and the bottom part of the outfit on their own, but together it's too much. And I don't like her scarf. It's too bulky.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:32 PM) :

I also think she's trying too hard. The top and the bottom parts of the outfit are okay individually, but together it's too much. I dont' like the bulky scarf either. But I love the mismatched socks and old shoes.

Anonymous Catherine like Deneuve said ... (4:16 PM) :

I love the colors, the patterns, the hat, the shoes, the socks, the scarf....
Also some observations, as an American living in France:
She is sitting outside, when it is devilishly cold in Paris, the only reason to do so being that one is an inveterate smoker who cannot finish a salad without a cigarette.
She has a coffee at the same time as her salad, which means she is not French (one does not drink coffee with food, but after).
If she is indeed the artist Tracy Emin, then she looks incredibly good for her age. Kudos for that.

Anonymous Atuana said ... (4:20 PM) :

Now here's a girl who enjoys getting dressed in the morning. And it's so appropriate that she's about to eat a yummy-looking salad--because she obviously relishes life. Love her Julia Roberts hair!
My one concern: that scarf is so beautiful, and I'm afraid she's going to splash dressing on to it...

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:22 PM) :

Love the shoes and the two different socks...aaah she looks so cool, the mixture of style and pattern <3

Anonymous noëlle @allerretour said ... (5:16 PM) :

Agree w/ Catherine like Deneuve, I highly doubt she's French; I lived in France and never knew the women to have that much quirkiness. My guess is British or American.

she's trying way too hard.. struggling with her hat about to fall..and the magazine...but her mise en scene is nice..

Anonymous D said ... (5:55 PM) :

She should be proud of such an individual style, the restaurant should be proud of such a beautiful collection of items on the table, and you, Scott, should pat yourself on the back for this wonderful caricature of France - note the wine and perrier bottles in the back!
Thanks!

Anonymous MIchele said ... (5:55 PM) :

how cool is she! love the dishevelled hair

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:06 PM) :

Sart, I have to say this is a fantastic shot. I don't frequent your blog to see technical photography. Instead, I view to see creative people pushing boundaries without looking foolish. This woman's style stands out and is definitely avant-fashion to me. The socks don't match, the shoes are missing laces. It's all over the place, yet it works. That is, the outfit is something being worn by a regular person on street that gives one insight about the person's personality - not some fashion insider wearing something outrageous.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:06 PM) :

this has got to be my favorite picture ever. not for the fashion, but how the picture speaks to you. it's honestly one of those pictures that communicate with you...

...it's pictures like these that inspired the quote,"a picture is worth a thousand words.."

she does indeed radiate 'artist', it's written all over her!

good job scott.

Figured it out, this must be young Julia Roberts!
Or a contemporary Julia Roberts for that matter.
This could be mrs Roberts even at her age today, if she would get away with not being recognised.
Maybe this is her camouflage - an expression of her spirit.

I love this mix of clothes so much. Joie-de-vivre through and through.

This kind of person ( so nice, colored and naif ) couldn't being found in Italy! she is a hymn to the joy of living. Great shot, great Paris.

This young woman is obviously English--NOT French. I don't care for the bohemian Alice-in-Wonderland style.

This is a really inventive look! but I am sure you know that "artist" is going too far - real creators do not need to advertise that much.

too colorful for me :)

Great find, Sart. However, this young woman is obviously English--NOT French. No Frenchwoman would be caught dead in this kind of outfit.

Wild outfit! Love it!

Amazing. And love how arty she eats and sit.

Blogger davidikus said ... (10:13 AM) :

Great shot, typically Paris. Even if she is not French, there is something Parisian about her! I would love to see the Art she produces. Mismatching socks rule!
