Anonymous AnnieC said ... (11:16 AM) :

Those pants weren't pretty when I first wore them in 1985, and they haven't gotten any better with time.

That is one 80s trend that should have stayed in the 80s.

Blogger Soren Lorensen said ... (11:19 AM) :

disagree with the first comment,

I think those pants are dope.

I love the scarf of the daughter.

Her pants are original and look great on her but I don't think I would where them myself.

Overall, gorgeous photo.

Anonymous LIZPR said ... (11:43 AM) :

I was just about to write "the apple doesn't fall from the tree..." and saw it's already written ... but I was going to add, "in the best way possible!" Not sure about the dropped crotch in the denim harem pants, although the daughter is so tall, slim, and modell-y I think she's working it.

Blogger SallyO said ... (11:50 AM) :

I love the jean "genie" pants...or "jeanie pants"!

Blogger Nastassia said ... (11:55 AM) :

Blogger SabinePsynopsis said ... (1:07 PM) :

Great jeans! The mother's hat reminds me painfully of the fact that my daughter tells me it's a sign of my midlife crisis that I suddenly like everything with leopard print...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:09 PM) :

As sure as Simon is speechless, Gordon, it helps to look at a lady's mum before going all lovey dovey.

Amazing blog discovered few days ago... So addict

Anonymous Nadra said ... (1:17 PM) :

Love the daughter's shawl and sweater, not sure about her jacket's color or the pirate jean pants. The mother's got a gorgeou smile. Would love to see her in tailored black leather instead of baggy. Makes her look frumpy. Not feeling her animal print hat.

Anonymous Bulletproof Stilettos said ... (1:22 PM) :

Its great when you notice style running in the family. But here, I think my favourite of the two is actually the mother. The mix of soft fabrics (skirt and scarf) with tougher elements (the leather jacket.)
The daughter's is nice too, but I'm not sure about the skirt/jeans.
Very interesting post..

Blogger Nicha said ... (3:10 PM) :

You can see the influence the mother has on her daughters style. Lovely photo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:13 PM) :

They are gorgeous. I love what the daughter is wearing. The denim is so fresh and looks so comfortable, though my boyfriend wouldn't walk down the street with me in them..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:17 PM) :

Beautiful women, and I love everything about their respective styles... except the pants. I'm sorry, but they are just awful. Terribly unflattering, and bringing to mind all sorts of possible medical conditions.

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:32 PM) :

The mother is so lovely, so clearly proud of her beautiful, stylish daughter. Not crazy at all about the denim diaper pants though....

Anonymous Gringo Jack said ... (4:14 PM) :

beautiful people. the daughter is gorgeous. is she a model?

Blogger kaś said ... (4:15 PM) :

I love this. It reminds me of my mom and I: my mom also tends to dress in darker, muted colours with a bold statement piece, and I like to experiment with different textures, colours, and fabrics (need to have some fun with my "youthful energy"!!). You can definitely see they're mother and daughter.

The women are beautiful. I just. don't. get. the pants.

Anonymous groovergreen said ... (7:42 PM) :

So damn cute! I dig how the mother wears supposedly "wild" leopard print as a demure and dainty hat. Very amusing, and it suits her beautiful face perfectly.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:50 PM) :

The pants? old style showing up in Paris as new. That's life. let me go put on my suit with a padded shoulder and a slit up the side.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:51 PM) :

Amazing on the top. Those pants look like she is carrying something around in them, though. Not good.

Anonymous Em said ... (8:46 PM) :

This is so right - the natural order of things. The mother is classic and the daughter is still experimenting. Both are gorgeous and whether you'd told us it was taken in Paris or not, somehow I would've guessed...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:27 PM) :

What a wonderful photo, Scott! The daughter's outfit is great, but the photo itself is amazing on it's own, even out of the context of The Sartorialist!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:47 AM) :

Blogger Montague The Monocle said ... (12:49 AM) :

Please, the lot of you, learn just a little about fashion before you misspeak and bathe us all in the waters of your ignorance. Harem pants; they're called harem pants. For the those in the know, they have made a presence in Parisian fashion as of late, and love them or hate them, fashion always boils down to the attitude and energy of the person. I can feel the daughters self confidence through Schuman's lens. Dislike her pants, but love her style, because that involves the culmination of many elements, not just one article of clothing.

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:20 AM) :

The jean-pants are ridiculously insane!!! Two beautiful women indeed!

Blogger ingefaer said ... (8:43 AM) :

not really feeling this - not sure why.
They are both attractive but I don't really like what they are wearing. Don't think the hat suits the mother and she has too much white on her upper lids.
The daughters expression is not very friendly.
Just my opinion!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:56 AM) :

These ladies are pretty but I don’t like what they’re wearing, especially these drop-crotch jeans and the leopard print-hat.

Anonymous Tom said ... (10:05 AM) :

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:34 AM) :

I imagine they have very interesting things to talk about with each other. They are beautiful and bad ass, daughter's jeans and mother's hat...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:44 AM) :

THey both look cool. The pants work on her, love how they are constructed, even though this harem style is really not for almost anyone! Hahaha

Anonymous Maranda said ... (12:03 PM) :

Great picture, strong happy women. The pants are distracting though. I love the daughter's scarf .

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:33 PM) :

The mom looks good. The daughter's pants are questionable.

Blogger Shihan said ... (2:42 PM) :

This is a nice mother/daughter fashion dynamic duo. Very nice visual of hip chic partnering with classic chic. I love the daughter's willingness to "go for it" with the funky jeans. I want to see their shoes!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:47 PM) :

not a favorite, the mother looks great because shes simple with a touch of energy from the hat but the daughter... ehh, too much of nothing..i think, i really like the scarf but everything else could have been put together better.
but then again, she doesnt look bad, so to each his own!

Anonymous Ruud said ... (2:52 PM) :

Those pants disturb me. Fat people have skin that looks like that after they've lost tons of weight. Otherwise, very nice. And after having seen the mother, I would propose to her fille in a hearbeat.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:57 PM) :

This is a fashion blog, you must not question the harem pants.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:09 PM) :

i like the pants.
i love the display of affection between the two.
each is beautiful.
agree, the eyeshadow might be differently applied.
but don't really care about the eyeshadow because the picture is about love and the joy in that mom's face

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:38 PM) :

This mother/daughter pair is beautiful! However, the pants are a little TOO eighties, and I used to have a hat just like that when I was seven. Otherwise, very chic!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:43 PM) :

Very powerful women!
Great shot...thanks....L

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:54 PM) :

I take the mother!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:03 PM) :

these two women are beautiful, absolutely stunning but i'm afraid it looks like one of them put their pants on backwards...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:22 PM) :

Not loving the Hammer jeans on the daughter, but I love the romance of the picture. I'd love to be strolling in Paris one sunny day with my daughter (and son......and husband).

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:31 PM) :

we were wondering how long the pants were. are they very fitted at the bottom?

It is people that must draw their own conclusions. This is what Scott says in his book. First line. Get a copy. Read it. It's worth it. Draw your own conclusion. Let others draw their own.

Thank you. I was able to find this line in my copy. It is indeed what Scott says. I have bookmarked it. If only I had more time to devote to the study of the words of Scott. Of course I carry the book with me everywhere, and I pity those who do not yet have a copy. They live in darkness, but they do not know it, like blind mice in a cave.
