Mary Poppins ? The Sound of Music ? Cute anyway...!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:21 AM) :

I love how the wind caught the skirt. Beautiful red colour, I also like it how she added the pale blue and combined it with black.

Blogger Brigadeiro said ... (9:23 AM) :

The greyish blue is just a stunning backdrop to that vibrant red coat, love its cute buttons! And topped with that hat = gorgeous!

Blogger The Concrete Commentator said ... (9:23 AM) :

Oh it's her again! I love her. Look at that red coat! beautiful, and the way the wind is catching her skirt...amazing. Love the background colour!

Blogger David said ... (9:29 AM) :

Well - it made me laugh!

Blogger Daphne said ... (9:35 AM) :

Ah! The red feather in her hat! The tiny buttons down the front of her skirt and the belt sitting low and thin on the waistband are stunning! I love the blue of that wall. I love this.
Nowhere do I find as much personal style inspiration (which is what I'm interested in above fashion) as on your blog! Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos of beautiful people.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:45 AM) :

Sound of Music?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:50 AM) :

recently i've felt you've been posting a lot of photos of people following trends rather than displaying their personal style. I know it's difficult because of fashion week/s and people log into The Sartorialist expecting to see new and exciting pictures all the time and that must be a lot of pressure, but love it or loathe it this lady has a strong personal look going on that is interesting and different. I love the red feather and the hardware on her bag. It's a strong individual look and i admire that.
(Glad the scary black insect didn't attack your camera, must have been close....)

Blogger Cat said ... (9:51 AM) :

The Shoes are excellent.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:57 AM) :

love it! Can anyone id her shoes?

Blogger lauren ashley said ... (9:57 AM) :

this is SUCH a darling look!!
reminds me of a whimsical character in a novel ... a semi-modern mary poppins or something!

it all coordinates ... and the feather in her cap! ::sigh:: :)

Blogger Alex said ... (9:58 AM) :

I'm not really a huge fan of the look (I am loving the coat), but this image? Rocks. Love the way she pops on the background and the movement of the skirt!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:58 AM) :

amazing shot.

Love the red coat and the camel colored skirt!

Blogger Tiphaine said ... (10:30 AM) :

Love her style, it looks very simplist with a childish top , a vintage skirt and the docs, whereas it's really interesting by looking at her morphology, I couldn't do that, anyway, I'm not enough thin .

Blogger Tiphaine said ... (10:33 AM) :

Red, White and Blue, my fav color combo.
Plus the great proportions and the brilliant choice of foot wear equals an outstanding ensemble!

Blogger Laura said ... (10:44 AM) :

This photo is so visually arresting! The red against blue is striking, and I love the contrast between the sharp military-inspired coat and boots and the soft skirt blowing in the wind. Lovely!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:47 AM) :

Oh, there she is: Mary Poppins!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:51 AM) :

What a whimsical ensemble. She looks like she popped out of a book. I adore her hat!

Blogger kater said ... (10:54 AM) :

This is that same girl with the tweed skirt from last week! My goodness, isn't she just the best! I might like this look on her just a bit! Such perfection!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:00 AM) :

First reaction: WOW. She's a Madeline-turned-modern-day Mary Poppins: adorable and sweet, yet sophisticated, bright, and fun! Lovely work!

Blogger Manja said ... (11:02 AM) :

What a great color combo! I love her shoes and her skirt.....especially the way she belted it! And the length of the skirt is just perfect. She is totally owning this look!

Blogger Lindsay S said ... (11:03 AM) :

Everything about this look is perfect. It's the first time I've actually wanted to wear a skirt that long.

Blogger Lizzie said ... (11:06 AM) :

The most awesome librarian's outfit, like, ever?! Seriously. I want her to work around books.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:24 AM) :

This reminded me of The Sound of Music. I think it's the hat.
I just love this look!!!
The skirt, the hat, the coat, the shirt with the lace? bow? tie? I'm not quite sure what it is, but it worked.
It's just so refreshing. Loved it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:24 AM) :

Her outfit is amazing! How effortless it all looks. And what great timing for that breeze.

Blogger junglesiren said ... (12:30 PM) :

She is an interesting girl. I like her style and her monalisa smile.

I thought she was black in the other shot but now I think she's Latina. Whatever she is, she rocks.

Love that Alpine chapeau.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:31 PM) :

a great combination! fashion should always be about enhanced creativity and individuality, just like in this picture.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:36 PM) :

I love the coat. I wish I was more bold with my wardrobe selections.

Blogger Bea said ... (12:40 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:43 PM) :

Perfect background.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:46 PM) :

divine. reminds be of roman holiday-meets-sound of music-meets-my fair lady...all in a good way.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:47 PM) :

It's not about trends or branding. It's about how those things apply to you. This girl just gets it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:48 PM) :

Hey, it's her again! Who is she? I love these costumes she creates, they're surreal, and yet she makes them believable and somehow very 'now'. It's magical!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:50 PM) :

The red coat and red feather in her hat are quite fun and bright on this impish woman. I like how all the colors work together, buuuuut there's something a little a-sexual(?) here. Maybe undo a few buttons to hint at cleavage or try a more feminine shoe.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:55 PM) :

perfect and petite, she is a little present! she just neeeds a big ribbon!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:55 PM) :

Blogger chelsea said ... (1:30 PM) :

this is beyond fantastic. i never thought i would be into a skirt this length, but this THAT jacket and THOSE boots, it's lovely.

Blogger Hollywood said ... (1:30 PM) :

Ridiculously cute, amazing, and perfect! The red feather in the hat ties it all off.

Blogger esther said ... (1:30 PM) :

i love how she so effortlessly combines like 4 different styles into one awesome one that works so well on her.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:33 PM) :

Thank you, Scott.

Blogger Fashion Serial Killer said ... (1:35 PM) :

wow, she looks great! Nice shot

Blogger Rachel said ... (1:36 PM) :

That hat reminds me of my second cousins hunting hat except his is green. That coat is phenomenal, bright military coat, I love the brassy buttons. And the ribbed shirt with the black ribbon, kinda' reminds me of and old fashioned school teacher, but classier!

P.S.Lub the shoes

Blogger nothing said ... (1:37 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:55 PM) :

Love the long skirt.

Blogger Mary said ... (1:57 PM) :

She looks absolutly amazing. Nice wind-effect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:00 PM) :

Such a wonderful outfit. Stylishly conservative contrasted with a bold red coat. The black trim frames the other colors nicely.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:04 PM) :

Oooh! The lovely girl again. She is my favorite of yours, now. She was so cute in that blue polka dot blouse/tweed skirt/cute hat photo. And there's that nice bright splash of red again.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:09 PM) :

What an incredible beauty! Amazing captured, as always!

Blogger VirginiaWestfield said ... (2:15 PM) :

Some great stuff going on here. Love the blue background contrasting with the red coat. Love the flow of the skirt, the contrast of the coat with the neutral skirt and top. Love the bow around her neck. And the hat, oh the hat completes it.

Blogger Wanderlusting said ... (2:26 PM) :

Hmmm. I can't tell it if I like it because of the blue wall behind her - she might have to walk around with that all day if so.

I appreciate all the pieces, just together it's a bit much. I'm thinking perhaps if she lost the tie (bow tie?) it might work better because it's making it too busy for my eyes.

Otherwise I like the use of black as outfit anchors.

Blogger ash said ... (2:26 PM) :

this one's so pretty! i love the skirt and her hat, and the pop of blue that comes from her top. the picture itself looks like art though. beautiful : )

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:28 PM) :

this is stunning. i love the subtle blue to mix it up a bit. it would have been a bit too matchy otherwise IMO

fairlight

Blogger Cameron Adams said ... (2:29 PM) :

Great use of color to both of you!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:36 PM) :

that jacket is wonderful and the skirt has such movement. how great!

Blogger 1 said ... (2:36 PM) :

Channeling the Sound of Music?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:38 PM) :

Woody Allen would cast her in a second! There is a large nod to Victorian era recently, shoes, tie, and hat...seems fashion is taking a humble look around and reminiscing about bygone days. She should be running an orphanage.

Blogger whyioughtta said ... (2:45 PM) :

You even conjured up the perfect whisp of wind in her skirt...

Blogger Paul Pincus said ... (2:46 PM) :

this is one of those images that you'll be remembered for ... imho ... it's fantastic!

Blogger sisty said ... (2:48 PM) :

Hmmm, I do like the red and light blue together, but I suspect the silence is because nothing else really works. Skirt is too long and shapeless, black tights, hat, and little necktie conspire to give this an elfin/witchy look altogether.

It is nice to see some color, though.

Blogger Je ne sais quoi said ... (3:00 PM) :

I love that combination of colours...definitely gorgeous!!and the hat is awesome!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:15 PM) :

You had her recently. On the one hand, I admire the thought put into this. On the other hand, I don't like it for being too calculated, too much of a costume. Tyrolean hat with red feather that is repeated in the coat, little black bow tie, anti-fashion boots... I appreciate the calculations, but say no thanks.

Blogger John B Pritchett said ... (3:22 PM) :

Beautiful coat! Wow! And I love the whole look. If you see her tell her she does great styling.

Blogger SparkleQueen said ... (3:30 PM) :

My eyes melted when i saw this photograph... this is just amazing.

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:31 PM) :

Cute jacket, cute shoes and skirt. Not crazy about the hat, although she wears it well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:38 PM) :

I love this picture. I love the gust of wind that caught her skirt and how the background offsets the shirt under her coat. That coat is also a stunner. She has an Amelie-esque quality to her, non?

Blogger Nikki - - Monomestile - - said ... (3:43 PM) :

I love the long skirt with buttons. Beautiful for windy days.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:45 PM) :

And could imagine the skirt-shirt-tank-tie combo with other things on top! And of course they all work sooo well together as we see here. Very cool.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:03 AM) :

Brilliant update of Regency style. She's going to elope with a soldier, like some naughty Jane Austen character. I think it's the colours, especially, which make me think of the period: just the right blue and fawn against the red coat. Nice.

Blogger sallymandy said ... (8:57 AM) :

Glad to see this woman again. I loved her last look that was posted her. In this one, I'm noticing the touches of black that balance her shoes and bring the other colors together. Great hat, that she had on in the other photo a couple weeks ago. Very individual how she's choosing to wear her skirts above her waistline, apparently. It works on her figure. I'm not quite sold on the color of the skirt with the red coat, though overall I love the entire thing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:39 AM) :

a touch of bavaria

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:43 AM) :

Adorable, like a Manet painting come to life, only friendlier. More, please!

Blogger Olimpia Liberti said ... (11:52 AM) :

one word: WOW!

this is a picture for your book! brilliant.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:08 PM) :

I agree--whoever said this look was a shot of current trends is missing the tastefulness that makes the whole thing hang together. She makes people think of The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins; but if you look at the styling in those films (and why not My Fair Lady while you're at it), you won't find this look. That's the genius here, the Jedi mind trick. And the photo, with its staging and timing, is brilliant.

Blogger Hek said ... (8:11 PM) :

I love this picture, it's just incredible.
The girl looks totally adorable.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:28 AM) :

givenchy bag? balenciaga shoes? if im not mistaken- that coat is marc jacobs collection from 2003/4?? (forgive me if im wrong) this girl is fooling everyone! the thing is that she is high-fashion but is playing it so under the radar, nobody knows it by first glance. the epitome of excellent style and excellent taste.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:11 AM) :

She's glorious & confident in her identity. I adore her for transporting us to another, more elegant era -- she's a mix of the 1940s, 1930s, 1880s, and 1910!

And credit to you for photographing her against a chambray background to bring out her colors.

Blogger alter_ego said ... (5:21 AM) :

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (7:35 AM) :

I love the skirt getting blown away by the wind!

Blogger CW said ... (10:41 AM) :

She is wearing the skirt 2 or 3 inches too high. The jacket looks too tight to close. Very school-girlish. This look is immature for any woman out of college.

Viewed apart from everything else, the hat works for her.

Blogger Michael Joseph Owens said ... (1:10 PM) :

Wow. She's adorable. And a fashion descendant of Diane Keaton.

Swiss Alpine girl goes to NYC, finds secretary job, runs into the Sartorialist ;)

very much agree with comments saying this girl has very strong personal style, however, the legth and colour of her skirt brings to mind the calf length skirts from Dolce & Gabanna Fall 08 collection. i've no idea whether this was intentional or spontaneoues, either way the whole look is gorgeous!

p.s i LOVE that length/type/colour of skirt, anyone know were to get one?

I would murder for a print of this. I've had it saved in my RSS reader for months now, and it makes me smile every time.

I love this - her quirky non-conformity is emphasized by unusual lengths and splashes of red. The hints of black all over in her satchel, footwear and accessories help steer it away from overthetop gamine.
