beautiful picture! Funny to see that her outfit from back then is now back in style.
she looks wonderful!
Was dressing always a pleasure back then? Or was it a pain to look your best always? Or were the clothes you bought simply just always tailored to look fine on people so as a result you could never really look anything but pulled together?
amazing pic.... love ;)

This is joy.
What panache! There are some women who just have that undefinable presence. And in my opinion, this lady is one of them!
With so many of these photos, I would love to see photos of the people later in life, to see how they have carried their sense of style into their more mature years!
Amazing. What a babe! I love the energy in this photo.

Cool! She looks like Ingrid Bergman.
Absolutely charming. I love the effortless chic of the oversized shirt and the scarf used as a belt.
The picuture is great, she is so stylish and happy. makes want to know more about her. She could be one character of a book i'm reading...
just loved it :)
Vintage photos seem to take on a life of their own. I can imagine this woman's playful, spontaneous personality through this beautiful candid snapshot.

This is what I always hope to look like when at the lake in the Adirondacks. I love the light colors, with the scarf as a belt - so simple, and so chic.
I also love her ingenuity in carrying her suitcase!
Adorable and such a great smile! I would absolutely wear this outfit now... it's classic! :)
As everyone says, her clothes are very modern!
Regards from Barcelona.

So Graceful! and it shows how the simplest things sometimes makes the best matching :)

Super cute! Good sun hat....great shorts/top and scarf belt! She has it goin' on! 8^)
Makes me think of Catherine Hepburn, same briskness, same classic looks. Great idea to ask readers to send in vintage photos!

This is a woman who certainly had just not style but sex appeal - why do I say that ? because she is smiling and guys just like women love to look good and laugh
What a great smile - it makes you smile yourself! ;-)
How amazing does she look! Relaxed tailoring is so sexy, and the long scarf brings a great bohemian touch.

Bellissima !!!

Her charisma explodes from the photograph. And she is clearly happy to be on vacation. Radiant smile, knockout figure and chic, practical glad rags!
Looks so much like Ingrid Bergman! Happy smile, nice shorts and shirt - and look at that suitcase being carried in such an unusual way! The late forties after WW2 were such great times - and I was there, but just a baby, lol!
Still hoping to see my vintage photo here - sent some time back - my mum and her twin brother in their very English thirties clothes!
Thanks, Mary
I truly love your vintage photos... what a smile!
So easy and elegant and her name is perfect for her. What would a holidaying young woman canoeist wear now? Nylon mesh baseball cap, loud t shirt, unflattering cargo shorts? Not many tiny waists left either. I shall start my situps immediately, review my scarf collection for summer and think joyfully!

beautiful! so elegant and effortless.

it's like you could see her strolling out of one of the shows in Milan:)
I love these vintage photos, I also love fashion and have started my own blog about my fashion illustration over the summer. I would love some feedback and some (fair) crit on my work.
Thanks

Really loved the hat on the white shirt and shorts!!!

Classic style epitomised
Style never die.
I love her expression!
The only thing is, it might be the fit of her clothes, but she seems to have very odd proportions. Broad shoulders and a VERY small waist? It might simply be that she's very thin but strong. Either way, love the outfit even if there's a bit of awkwardness in it.
love the classic ease of this outfit.
using a scarf as a belt..splendid.
women had their 'own natural' faces back then...which was beautiful.
something the 'botox generation' could learn a lesson from.
I have been in search for a shirt like that. So versatile, so easy, so light. I'm jealous!
It really is amazing how well much of the vintage styles fir in today. She looks great. And she has very toned legs.
I suspect that a lot of these stylish people didn't have closets stuffed with outfits, but the few they did have were chosen with care and treasured. What a delightful shot. Joy is aptly named.
She looks like Lauren Bacall, so elegant and confident.
She is looking amazing!
Funny to see how all the fashion trends are coming back from time to time.
I love that she was essentially wearing men's clothes, ala Katherine Hepburn, and doing it so sexily! She looks comfortable, free and full of life! Christian Dior's "New Look" was to come along in just a couple of years and drown this strong, independent look, replacing it with cinched waists, huge skirts, and frilly aprons. What a shame!
This is pure class! Wish I was her.
