July 4th Weekend in Capri
Over July 4th weekend, Tod's invited Garance and myself to Capri for the opening of their Jackie Onassis photo exhibit.
As you can imagine, the images are beautiful, inspiring, and poetic; see Garance's post, here.
Mr. Della Valle and crew were incredible hosts and allowed us to see a side of Capri that a first-time visitor rarely experiences. For a location as famous as Capri to live up to decades of hype seemed impossible, and yet it was even more enchanting than I had expected.
This rugged landscape has been tamed by the luxurious Italian lifestyle: food, architecture, the highest standard of living. Capri will be high on my list of favorite locations, going forward.
A big big thanks to Diego, Andrea, Sarika, and Mariacristina.

The bougainvillea flowed down the architecture and mountainside like a beautiful floral fog.
Super-host Diego Della Valle.
Lee Radziwill at the exhibit's opening party.
Walking around Capri, you really have to keep your eyes open. Every corner you turn there is a new tableau.
Aerial view (well, actually - from just really high up the mountainside!) of the world-famous La Fontelina lido.

As always, thanks for the pictures.

I really like that you have added photos of everyday things; the flora, fauna, homes, boats, etc. and how you see the beauty in them. A lot of us dont take the time to appreciate it all
Charmed my socks off.
A vicarious pleasure trip.
Thanks.
Beautiful!!!! Capri is officially on my bucket list of places to visit.
I can almost smell the sea and foliage. Thanks for transporting me...
Could someone please tell me what kind of glasses (brand, maybe model) is Mr. Della Valle wearing in the photo? I'd be eternally grateful.
Thank you
Great pictures! I visited Capri 7 years ago and loved it.

Great photo set of Capri. Must have been an incredible trip. The style and feel of that part of the world is unmistakable. Your picture through the fence, into the courtyard is brilliant. Really great stuff. Thanks for letting us all have a peak.
Jeff
Whoa, you are one lucky couple. Before I got to the pic of the flora, I was already thinking about the smells of the place! mmmmm
Jose Miguel Antunez looks like Adriano Celentano.
Magnificent photos!

Wow, that's a really nice boat.
OMG I was there on June 20th! I was there for my summer study abroad in Italy. We went everywhere in Italy(and I mean everywhere. We traveled 40 cities in 6 weeks) and Capri just happen to be at our last stay/final exam place! It is beautiful and amazing. Now I'm in America and I miss it so much! If I was with you i would taken you to a famous leather shoe store in Capri. ahhhhhhh
happy times!!!
Fantastic pictures and beautiful place.
Capri is Capri, nothing more to say..It is a piece of Paradise on the Earth. The sun, the fragrance of the Sea, the food, the people. Walking in the narrow streets in a full Moon Summer night let you wish you will stay there forever..

Amazing post! I love it when you show us where you travel and your surroundings and when you also add a bit of text!
The boat details are amazing! My favorites are the one with the leather rings on the mast and the one with the speed thing (I don't know how it's called!)
Lee Radzivill is stunning!

Beautiful, and your description of the bougainvillea is marvellously dark.
At 19 I landed on Capri. Seasick. wondering if I was hallucinating vertically. I was. Jackie was there. at the next table, strolling those magical lanes, in the shops, trying on the same sandals i was, when i was. We began saying Ciao to each other, as if this piece of heaven and us being neighborly was normal as rain! Heady stuff. (even with Jackie and her Paps and posse, things where much more casual then). We lived in our white capris on Capri. I never saw Princess Lee there. But they have been my style icons all my life. When facing a fashion dilema, i will catch myself with a giggle musing..."what would Lee/Jackie wear"? Always that involves removing an accessory too many.
The spectacular beauty and smells and style of Capri affected me so deeply, that after a career in NYC, I moved permanently to a warm lush mountainous tropical Pacific island because parts of it reminded me of dreamy Capri. (no Italian citizenship).
Lee looks wonderfully elegant, as always. My hanai daughter, upon seeing this photo, commented that Princess Lee wears her hair like mine and dresses like i do. Ahem, I let it go and didn't tell her it was the other way 'round.
Thanks for the memories Scott and Garance. How wonderful you are living la dolce vita! You are both such an inspiritation to me.
Don't those Deva leather wrappings look like Hermes saddlery craftsmanship? although i'm sure they are from some eminent Italian house. Exquisite.
Annabella
ps. Have you slept with an open window next to a blooming mock orange hedge yet? You will. Heaven. Heaven.
What a gorgeous boat, and man...I can practically smell the sun-baked herbs and citrus and sea from here, wow.
OMG - What am I doing here in West Jutland??
the photos are very nice..
come to Greece too..greek islands, where white meet blue..

Beautiful. The boat looks so loved and taken care of. Lee looks elegants and lovely, and Mr Antunez looks sexy.
how gracious of mr. delle valle.
staggeringly beautiful..capri & Lee.
Nice to see Lee Radziwell, but disappointed to see such an otherwise elegant woman smoking....
really, really beautiful pictures. just gorgeous. looks like you enjoyed your time there!
And doesn't the film _Darling_ include an episode in Capri? Julie christie, ahhhh
I have been to capri the past 13 summers at this exact time...this makes me miss it so much. it truly is magical with the bougainvillea, the stiletto-repelling streets, the paparazzi, the limoncello, the beautiful clock tower, the grotta azzurra, and of course the ultimate playground...la piazzetta
Yes, Ms. Radziwill is certainly a stunning woman. Cigarettes are always an unfortunate accessory I wish one would do without, but what have you. She's still gorgeous.
how beautiful and glamorous... great shots. Lee is an icon; looks fabulous. so glad you shared this.
mmm, capri. love.
and I'm not a big boat connoisseur either, but the 'devo' is beautiful. and, if I'm not mistaken, the name means 'i must'. nice.
Really quite beautiful I love Capri and lee looks as coolly elegant as ever but please do not use the phrase "going forward" ever again...........please please please!
I officially want to be you.

As always, you seem to discover the most beautiful shots.......I so much appreciate your eye for details! The leather-bound rings on the ship are just gorgeous. Thank you for these photos!
Please post more pictures of stylish women who also happen to be "mature"......like the one of Lee R. It would be personally helpful to see more examples of how to dress stylishly yet age appropriately for women over 50
There is an intriguing looking clutch on the table in the picture of elegant lee radziwell. I wish i knew more about it. Wonderful post!
Beautiful! The leather covered rings in the last pic are so perfectly detailed.

Whoa, for a moment I thought I was on Santa Catalina Island, off the coast of Los Angeles. Seems equally as beautiful as Capri but minus the cachet.
Love these pictures, especially the bougainvilleas!

I'm going to Capri this summer so thank you for the beautiful preview! Hayley
The photos of the amazing views in Capri make me even more excited to go in August! Italy and the South of France are both one of my favourite summer destinations.

Lovely post, Scott!
so stunning. i need more travel in my life. sigh.
i wonder if i could get away with wearing a sheer scarf in lieu of a tie at a summer party...or would it be too "queeny" here?
Can anyone PLEASE tell me who Lee Radziwill's clutch bag is by??? It's so beautiful, perfect for summer with the lobster design! Love love love it!
Amazing pics! Thank you!
Perfect caption for the Lee Radziwell pic: Still Smokin'
Incredibly perfect and Ms.Radziwill photographed with a cigarette, just makes her human in an otherwise unreal and mythical place like Capri!!!
What was I thinking? So at first I got lost in your dreamy Capri and Princess Lee photos. So much beauty.
I forgot to say how much I love your photo of Diego Della Vella, biz/marketing genius behind the his iconic family Tod's brand. He cuts such a handsome figure with the kindest of eyes and such a warm welcoming smile. Indeed, he looks for all the world like a "super host" should look. Just the person with whom you want to enjoy Passagiata.
And this, this is the Holy Grail of marketing: Capri, "Jackie In Capri" exhibit... on Capri. More high style at high season. Jackie's sis Princess Lee, life/ style/design icon on Capri for exhibit. gorgeous leather work on the exquisite Deva a la Tod's....and drum roll, hiring the A team of G+S to tell this dreamy style story in their own unique wonderful ways!
Not a Tod's driver/bag/bauble in sight,as far as I can see. all i want to do is go buy a bunch.. NOW! With my new Tod's i will instantly be transported there. Um, It's working. Look for me.
So well done, Scott and Diego,
"Happy Times" indeed.
Annabella
Yours is a beautiful life!
I remember when i went to capri, i noticed the violent purple flowers crawling down someone's balcony!
This looks totally stellar.
amazed! such an stylish old woman!

What a great home and garden. I love the aerial pic of the La Fontelina lido.
We rented a villa two years ago in a little village called Marina della Lobra, that had views of Capri from it's terrace. Every morning I did yoga while taking in the views of the magical island. Pure bliss.
Do you have more pictures of the sailboat? The couple you posted are just so intriguing! Would love to see more pictures of it!
I've been to Capri. Beautiful !
Love it!
met Diego Della Valle a few weeks ago during the inauguration event of Tod's renovations Colosseum. He is a humble and down to earth man who manages to carry himself in an impeccably stylish and yet approachable way. You must of had a blast being a guest of his.
Hello. I work in Amalfi and it is spectacular to watch these photos that represent Capri so similar to Amalfitan Coast. In paritcular, I find that the forth photo is wonderful beacuse it remind me Sr. Chiara Cloister in Naples. It reminds me also our grondomthers who couldn't stay outside for a long time in particulare without a man of the family and so they spent large part of their life in little and beautiful garden looking after theri family.
And to finish I think that people who love these places ha to read "Arturo's Island" of Elsa Morante, which is set in Procida and describe very well our past life.
extreme jealousy from lil old me freezing right now in melbourne.
I agree the Melbourne snap is almost unbearable - almost! These glimpses of hot heaven have left me in a haze of sun and scent.
This shot of the Deva's rigging could walk a runway - a belted body in the cleanest denim.
Oh, wait for me, Summer!
Beautiful pictures!!! Seems a really inspiring place to be. These leather-covered rings on the main mast look like a beautiful bracelet.
keep these inspiring work, thank you.
Gorgeous.
So lucky to have the chance to go there everytime I want, is a so unique island, everything is a detail! I wish I met you!! We want other pictures!!
Mrs Radziwill looks great. Nice to see her smoking unlike all the modern puritans and kill-joys.
Lee Radziwill is a vision. If I look that good at her age my life will be complete!
