On the Street...Houston St., New York

Summer hats too often take on an overblown Kentucky Derby vibe that is a little off-putting.

I like how this hat is sun effective and yet still city chic.

I agree that this is a great look, but I must admit that I am a big fan of the "overblown Kentucky Derby vibe." As we say here in Texas, "go big or go home."

Let's call her Whitney;
withering on Houston Street;
nearing the Broadway corner--
she sees the Hollister store
,the surfer models by the door--
and longs for a seat
on the Hamptons Jitney.

Blogger Leah said ... (6:28 PM) :

Seriously? I think that hat is awful. It's just a bucket hat with a bigger brim. Since when is that either "city" or "chic"?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:51 PM) :

I really love this shot Scott: the movement, the colors, the volumes, the wedge shoes are amazing and she really knows how to wear that hat, I agree. Simply insiprational!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:55 PM) :

what a beautiful combination of colours! somehow i feel like i haven't quite seen it before! and love the fact that the dark colours are at the top. usually this look would be 'balanced' with black shoes but her gorgeous nude wedges definitely make this original.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:07 PM) :

Nice outfit. Can I humbly suggest more posts on casual hat-wearing? I come from Australia, where hats are pretty essential for anyone with fairer skin who doesn't want to look 40 when they are 30, yet there is little guidance on how to pull the hat off without looking too "sun smart" (ie, like you are taking on board government advice about how health far more important than fashion).
In general, love the blog. Well done.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:04 PM) :

Oh, man. How long and lean do your legs have to be to pull off those shoes? I can't even imagine. But she is definitely pulling them off.

Blogger The Foolish Aesthete said ... (9:10 PM) :

Beautiful unposed (or is it?) shot!

Blogger Mani said ... (1:09 AM) :

I have no idea why, but I love this! It's so hard to find a nice hat that actually protects you

Blogger christine concepcion said ... (2:36 AM) :

Is that like an oversized fisherman hat? Anyways, this totally works, and I love the whole outfit!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:41 AM) :

her heels look like they're having a ball

Blogger beesandbugs said ... (3:31 AM) :

Love that look - laid back but soo chic :)

Blogger CoryB said ... (4:43 AM) :

Love this, it looks so laid back, such summer chic! It doesn't even disturb me that the wedges and the bag are matchy-matchy. Also, I'm still a sucker for neutrals, even though bright colours and colour blocking is such a big trend now. Still find this a lot chicer.

Anonymous petra said ... (5:28 AM) :

the colour-combination is hilarious....

Blogger Victoria | Hibiscus Bloem said ... (6:05 AM) :

Blogger Cybee said ... (8:34 AM) :

Enchanting photo. I am all for sun protection and like how she did it here....the entire look is great.

Blogger lintmag said ... (9:42 AM) :

I love the rather Japanese colors of this photo - the grayish blue, black, tans, and the tiny bit of orange at her feet and the small bit of ochre color on the right side in the fence. Gorgeous!

Blogger Anastasia said ... (11:21 AM) :

Yes, i want this shoes!!! :))))
I can't sleep now... all the time i see this shoes... really... :)))))))))
