This looks like a good example of the more casual, young person's 1940's style that we don't get to see very often in fashion references to this time period.

Well .. I think nice people recall of events experienced
before and I think that the more one comes to fashion is looking
to the past, it's fun.
The clothes are different but are in vogue. In Brazil,
most cities do not invest in fashionable clothing, but
yes they do their fashion.
I loved the black and white photos is one thing we

Believe me, those jeans when new were stiff as boards. It took many, many washings to get them soft enough to be really comfortable. And they came in only one length (and one shape), so if you wanted them shorter, the alternative was to roll them up. Denim has come a long way, baby. "Windbreakers" were popular in the 50's and my boyfriend and I had matching white ones.

I love this picture of your maternal grandparents - I have many of mine as well, and they always warm my heart. Mine were older, so I have a picture of them on their honeymoon leaning against their Model-T car!

Worked for years as a Genealogist and it was always fun to bring people closer to their ancestors and their family history.

Blogger Beca said ... (8:09 AM) :

thanks for all the nice comments! this photo is a small 3x5 size, and there are about 3 more in this series of photos taken this day. i will call my grandmother today and find out the story behind the sweaters. we actually still have the sweaters in a box in storage. i should get them out and take a picture of them now. they are a mustard yellow color with brown reindeer if i remember right.

funny that everyone talks about the love they see in this pic. before my grandfather passed away almost 13 years ago, i never saw my grandparents kiss or show any affection. that is what makes this photo so interesting to me. they must have been in love at some point. they were married for over 45 years and had 6 children, numerous grandchildren and now great-grandchildren. my grandmother is still alive and well, celebrating her 80th birthday this year. she still has her hair dark brown and doesn't look a day over 65.

i'll get the details of this shot, sweater info, who took it, where it was taken, etc and post back to the comments. :)

Blogger Beca said ... (10:10 AM) :

called my grandma and she said she had bought these matching sweaters at a local department store in east wisconsin, prangie's, while they were dating. she said she did not buy them for any special reason, just for fun. she said they were very heavy and quite expensive on her salary. she could not remember where this was taken, but they were dating during this time. they were married in 1949. and she said she wore her dungarees quite often, but always cuffed. (she said nowadays we like our pants dragging in the dirt) she also said this is what they did while out on double dates, dress up and take pictures of each other. i wish she still had the camera :)
