Now this is wonderful. Easily reminds me of the Hasidic Gentleman Scott shot awhile back, who also tipped his hat, covering his eyes, before the shot.

Amazing, it's so vibrant, and full of uniqueness, the black and white just shows how it is portrayed as a design of style.

This is wonderful!
The dude abides. A hat cocked at a rakish angle, a jacket and tie; were the only way to walk out your front door for past generations. My dad (B.1899-D.1971) wore a suit, albeit an old one, to mow the lawn.
Commenters to your blog regularly complement the more elegantly dressed; are they indicators of a return to a more formal fashion sensibility?
nice photo
Thats a lovely picture :)
What a fab picture, love it! :)

Amazing picture!! I love your blog, it's my favorite!!
Whoa! That is so rad. I love his cuffs!
That grin under the hat is a killer! Love it!
Pretty sure this was snapped very close to the time of the war. Londan endured nightly bombings. All of Europe was in great distress. Fabric, socks, shoes, hats in and of theirselves were scarce luxuries, as all went to the war effort. So to dress with such great panache with what was at hand involved enormous inventive style. Your uncle does you proud, from the jaunty slant of his hat, the casual placement of the scarf, to his rolled up pants and rolled down socks. And that rakish smile. Just Wonderful!
awesome shot, and so different from the usual somber shots typical of older photos. i can see where you got your inspiration from!
This is what danger looks like . . . I am in love!

Fantastic
Beautiful.

Remember that trend you were tracking last year with the rolled formal or dressy trouser? Has EVERYTHING been done? Just saw the Bill Cunningham documentary & enjoyed it immensely! I love how he used to call designers on their efforts to conceal appropriated looks on the runway!

So authentic! so real love you!!!

Scott could you please, please tag all your vintage photos? They're so inspiring but I've been trawling through the archives and can't find any of the ones from last time!
Cette photo est très touchante. Je ne sais pas pourquoi, elle m'a fait penser à Jules et Jim. Peut être le coté nonchalant :)

I'm always fascinated by today's modern style but I am always impressed by fashion history...
Crush worthy.
This may be my favorite photo ever on this blog. I am seriously in love with dotted scarf and would really love to know its color. I'm guessing a faded red. The park-like setting is also poetic and evocative. Just delightful!
like the movie of Francois Truffaut "Jules et Jim"!!! :)))
http://michelmercuryartbeauty.blogspot.com/
somehow this image does not feel too old.. must have been the best camera of the time
Love how "unposed" his pose seems, his natural charisma shines through without him trying to be anything but himself.
Timeless. Lovely photograph.
Ah....and notice the length of his coat sleeves :) The thought I had immediately upon seeing this shot is, how wonderful the relationship between the photographer and your uncle, because this picture is so natural and expressive. I absolutely love the glimpse of ankles! Thank you for sharing this photo. It's obvious talent runs in the family.
F A B U L O U S!!!

I see some of this rascally influence in the post above with the scarf and the vest and the rolled up trousers.

That picture and all its attitude is worth a thousand words and belongs in a museum of all things just so totally hip...!!
