Back to Spain!

Hey guys,

I will be going back to Spain the first week of June to give two masterclasses on "Sartorialism," on behalf of Spanish telephone carrier Movistar.

I've been to Barcelona and Madrid a couple of times and I'm excited to go back. We're creating a little "Sartorialist Tour" of each city.

As part of the project I'll be participating in a livestreamed interview on Monday, 5/9, at 2 PM EST. If you'd like to watch, you can find it on their Facebook page (here).

If you've ever had a question for me, post it here and we will select a few to answer during the interview.

Fantastic news Scott !!! You are always welcome to our country.

I have a question: What do you know about Spanish designers and Spanish fashion ? What do you think we could do to promote the brand "Fashion from Spain" in the world ??

Thank you

Belen

Hi Scott, I would love to have your input about something. I am setting up a Fashion/Photography studio/Magazine in Barcelona. The general reaction when I tell people about it, is, "Fashion and Barcelona???", like if BCN and Fashion did not fit at all, or if they were worlds apart. Do you agree? What do you think about the Fashion in BCN? What about Spanish Fashion?

Blogger carlette said ... (6:54 AM) :

How do you go about choosing your subjects? You do not seem to choose ones that are conventionally fashionable. Though I must say they are very inspirational, and the quality of the photos somehow make them a lot more inspiring. I love your variety and the feel that you do not judge too much when taking your photos. But purely choose what is interesting. Would you agree that that is your approach?

Sincerely,

Annie

Blogger Unknown said ... (6:55 AM) :

Dear Mr Schuman
Do you think that the constantly changing trends in fashion are harmful to creating a consistent style in menswear? And do you think that this flooding of the market may be why we no longer see the Cary Grants' of years gone by?
Hope this makes you interview

Be sure to include Sevilla on your tour!!! Beautiful city!

We would love to see a focus on women "of a certain age" while you're in Europe. Middle-aged women are prized in this part of the world and it would be fun to see how they are stylishly attired while you are there. Baby-boomers need some guidance in this area!!! Look forward to seeing the 50-80 ladies!!

Most likely to be ur newest blog follower and I love it, my question is about the people that you photograph, are most of them in the fashion industry? obviously you take gorgeous, thought provoking pictures and your preternatural eye for style is unparalleled. I run into you last time next to Just One. That neighboorhood "Salamanca" is classic (upper east side) and you will find senior sartorialists. Go to mercado de la paz food market for beautiful non tourist color.
For contrast see Malasaña and barrio de las letras, where there is a mix of edgy with old timers (less posh than Salamanca). If you are interested in a handful of unique clothing stores that dont sell the usual brands, or a reasonable tailor shoot me an email.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:14 AM) :

The purpose of my question is to receive advice from you. How can a young man in today’s modern world with no prior experience on handling fabric, become a tailor. I would appreciate your sincere response. The reason I use the term "modern" in my question is because I was doing some research and it appears that a couple of decades ago schools for men’s tailoring were more present than now.

Please, don't miss San Sebastián, in the north. The most elegant city in Spain.

My questions:

After shooting someone, do you ever walk away wishing you knew more about the person?

Must you have permission to shoot and post a shot?

Hey!

I have always wondered where there is a quality men's tie store! I have seen many of your photos of men with such nice ties. I've recently been interested in Tom Ford but I was wondering if you could tell me some tie stores that are quality.

Thanks,
Will

Next year you should come to seville in the feria, and go to the bullfight, everybody is very well dressed and you will see women in their tipical dress, Seville in that season is a perfect balance of elegance and tradition, I'm sure it won't dissapoint you.

If you're coming to Madrid you should go to have dinner (or maybe lunch!) at ANANIAS in Calle Galileo. It is a little restaurant with typical food from Madrid and you know what? The whole restaurant is full of things from bullfights because the owner was a very famous "torero".

Enjoy beautiful Spain. I am sure you'll find inspiration there.

In Barcelona, the Barri de Gràcia and el Borne for quirky styles; the Turó Park area for fashionable ladies who lunch.

I missed your event at La Roca last year (I was in LA) and the one at the Beverly Center in LA (I was in Barcelona). When you are in Barcelona next, again I will be in LA... Oh well...

Why only Madrid and BCN? Bilbao is the most modern city these days. A pity you wont be coming there... Also... where did your obsession about "girls in bikes" begin?:) Keep up the great work, man!
