Blogger comme fraiche said ... (10:27 AM) :

The little touch of color (turquoise in necklace) keeps her from total monochrome but she sure stands out in a crowd, there's no missing her in the street

Blogger N AT A S H A said ... (10:39 AM) :

I usually like Abbey but she looks terrible here! She looks so gaunt, she has gotten much too skinny. What are shame.

Is that Abbey Lee?

Anonymous jdit said ... (10:51 AM) :

Wings of Desire or City of Angels - take your pick. The ethereal quality here both of the clothing and the posture is captivating. It is as if she is moving through the streets in another dimension. Take away the accessories and the coat and bag and the blue of the pendant and the screen of the phone look almost stunningly alien.

I'd take my leader to her instead of waiting for her to ask...

Blogger Aubrey and Melissa said ... (10:52 AM) :

Anonymous Curious said ... (11:04 AM) :

Anyone else left wondering at the uniformity of response to this image?
Perfection. Goddess. Angel. Angel is such a strong word. Why does pale and blonde = divine?
My reaction to the image itself was neutral, but I grew super curious reading the comments. What does this say about us? How are racial characteristics coded? (I'm white, by the way.)
I can't speak for viewers in other places, but in the U.S., it's way past time to decode our own responses. Way past.

so much beauty.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:19 AM) :

This is a terrifying picture. she is a gorgeous woman, but the combination of all white clothing, dark eye makeup, and the fact that she looks malnourished makes her seem like a billboard warning against anorexia. I wish you would not promote this sort of thing, while making other posts hypocritically applauding "sturdy" girls.

for the people who will surely respond to this post with something along the lines of "that commenter must be fat and jealous," I will clarify, even though it is completely irrelevant, that I a HEALTHY size 2. I enjoy artistry and design but it is things like this that make me hate the fashion industry.

fake empowerment is poisonous.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:24 AM) :

Lovely ... but who makes the bag? I love the handbag, please, anybody?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:27 AM) :

She's a vision!

Anonymous jdit said ... (11:33 AM) :

Hey 'Curious said' - Touche!

I would like to think it is the posture and the poise and would not matter what race the model was/is...not about the 'color', a sensitive eye can see many subtitles in the shot and the temperature of the subject - but point taken all the same.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:34 AM) :

I'm confused...Am I the only one??? If this was from a runway show I'd probably like her spectacular artsy style BUT if she is real and down the street come on!! : she is scary, she looks unhealthy (anorexic, drugged?), coming from a sci-fi movie... Sorry not my idea of an angel!!
As a photographer, I love the picture : so unreal!

I don't know, I didn't think she looked angelic (please, look at the facial expression), but I did think it was a wonderful effect of layering. The sheer layers one over the other made me rethink my wardrobe for summer. And yes, she is thin, but maybe it's time to get off the bandwagon about weight.

If the White Queen of Narnia popped out on a cityscape, that'd be her. GORGEOUS!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:02 PM) :

Ethereal and gloriously bizarre. Love it.

This reminds me of a trend-let in tribal fusion--a sort of reverse goth where dark, richly textured fabrics are flipped for pale, floaty or lacy ones. I'm always amazed by the similarity of effect--both are otherworldly and haunting. In fact, the pale look may be even more powerful because it's unexpected.

Anonymous Elisabeth - Everything's Better with Frosting said ... (3:08 PM) :

The outfit's amazing, but I think it's the hair and makeup that really blows me away. The whole look has such an edgy but ethereal quality to it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:11 PM) :

Curious: People are saying 'angel' and 'goddess' because she has the requisite all white outfit and halo of light, not just because she is white and blonde. There are many blonde, white girls featured on this blog who don't get the same response.

It's also the combination of white clothes with white skin and hair that makes this particular look so strikingly out of place and beautiful. I find this photo 'inspiring' for the beautiful layering of sheers and the courage it takes to wear a look like this.

Blogger Robert Sisson said ... (3:52 PM) :

She is beautiful but I prefer the curves of Angelika.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:55 PM) :

I find it quite interesting to read the other comments. I am a "sturdy" girl but I don't think she's malnourished or anorexic looking. Maybe because I went to an all-girl's school with girl's who did have eating disorders and sometimes notice the girls at shows who really do have warning signs. But I know that women come in all shapes and we'd all be happier if we didn't victimise any part of the size spectrum.

I think Abbey looks quietly confident. On her, her look reminds me of 90s goth but done in white, thus playing up her hair colour in a way that distinguishes it more so than if she'd used black as her monochrome. The eye shadow looks like it wasn't intentional but part of a job though. Not my current taste but it works.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:20 PM) :

looks like a costume to me

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:28 PM) :

If I passed her on the street I'd think "eccentric anti-goth". Or "homeless person" with all that baggage she's carrying, but the white is too clean for a homeless person.

A bit stumped by how much everyone loves this pic. Different strokes for different folks...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:29 PM) :

I am all about this white-on-white look, especially with a maxi skirt! S/S Rag & Bone did an incredible pleated white maxi that I'm dying for. Perfect for summer and gives such a pretty, ethereal vibe.

Blogger Kacrates said ... (4:31 PM) :

Blogger jenifa said ... (4:35 PM) :

She has a style - white on white - although the outside top is cream. She looks good but a bit messy - carrying far too much. She is beautiful and I don't think anorexic. Some of us eat like horses and remain skinny until we hit our mid 50s.

She looms large on the street, like a doric column! Can't help but compare her to the wonderfully golden girl of a few posts ago. However, this time we have a 'sacrificial victim' element creeping in and I think I'd much prefer the girl with the bangs behind her - she looks so warm and and alive - looking around her, alert to possibilities. The model shows no such curiosity and expects all eyes to be on her - the object.

Startlingly, unforgivingly beautiful. Just the colours in photo are stunning, more so with the fantastic outfit. And such a pretty girl. I wish I saw people like this in my city! ♥

in contrast with the angelic ethereal attire is the storm brewing in her eyes.

Too many things in one hand? And that's messing with her look? She's walking down the street with her stuff, for god's sake. Are you saying she needed to accessorise her look with a servant?

I think the model and the photo and the look are astounding, and next to the little sweetie boy I think it's the most beautiful thing I've seen here yet. I want the hair!

The only thing I'd change is the platforms for some silver docs...

I think it's the light and whiteness overall that engender the angel comments, I don't know if the race thing is a fair criticism. Maybe it is, I don't know. I cringe at the skeletal women that are here sometimes too, but I'm afraid this time, if she's too thin it perfects the outfit. I can't argue with that.

the bags are from Fendi...but why does she carry two bags?

Blogger Mel said ... (1:48 PM) :

The shot is great, however, the "look" is too busy. A soft, simple outfit that is over accessorized. The off the shoulder top adds a nice element to the outfit but is lost with the heavy necklaces and shoulder bag. The other 2 bags and coat in the other right hand take away from the overall look, IMO.

I'm not a fan of the make up choice either. I would go for something a little softer, less dramatic.

The red bag and blue phone accentuate the whiteness so nicely!

What can you say about Abbey that hasn't been said already? She is so aloof and yet so present. This complete look on her makes her the breathtaking eningma she is.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:52 PM) :

Damn, I love everything except the colour of her hair! She looks like an alien and not in a good way. A couple of shades darker would have made it right!

It was Wondercon -- a comic book convention -- in San Francisco this past weekend. This photo could have been snapped there.

She looks like one of those ethereal ghost characters from Japanese anime.

I'm assuming she's a model because coffee can stain that white outfit badly while she's waitressing.
