When You Are Old by WB Yeats
When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.
Beautiful. I love the contrast. Did you use a lens filter?

I was born on a storm-swept rock and hate the soft growth of sun-baked lands where there is no frost in men's bones.

I'm a little scared and a little in love.
This is a great photo. The small details of the rain spot on his shoulder add so much context to the photo.

Beautiful shot...
This is one of the best candids I have seen on your site. I love the look, and I hope I run into whoever you have in Florence when I am there in 3 weeks. I will be the American running around in workwear.
Hey Dad...what are you doing here?!
(Just kidding, kinda looks like him though)
A very good photo of a very fine face. The comments they inspired especially the Yeats poem are up a notch too.
Perfectly timeless.
Stupenda.
We have a painting that's been in the family for the last 50 years of an old fisherman that is nearly exactly like this photo - fantastic!!

Fantastic portrait, one of your best yet. It could have been taken anytime in the past 100 years!
This is an awesome shot!.. ~
Great shot mate. I'm a huge fan, your blog made me want to get dressed up again.
By the way, the jacket is by Denham the Jeanmaker out of Amsterdam, lovely stuff, worth checking them out online. They have a whole garment history section on their website that is amazing and generously all there to view.
Keep roaming the streets and finding moments of beauty.

All that's missing is the curl of the smoke from his cigar. He needs to light up!
Just a wonderful photo, and great in B&W! Bravo!
Love to see more B/W work.

Heavy, strong, excellent. Pathos too and a glimpse of a good looking jacket.
GREAT PHOTO AS ALWAYS!!!!
Fantastic! Even while the subject appears to be guarding his inner secrets there seems a depth to them in a life lived.

Wonderful, wonderful portrait. Thanks!
prefect BW! love it!!
A great black and white photo. He doesn't look like he belongs in sophisticated Florence, rather he looks more like a Southern Italian fisherman. The textures, including the cigar, are great especially the spots on the shoulder.
Great picture and this guy has some stories tell.......fascinating
One of your best. It's all in the details and you've missed none.
