Cute little detail on his hat!
Hi Sart - you mentioned you'll be in philly sometime soon.... What's the best date/day/time/place to run into you? :D Thanks!

Such cool layers. And cool, sweet demeanor =]
Love the pop of color in the scarf.
it's endearing to see an older guy do a peace sign to the sartorialist.
He is the happiest looking fella i've seen in a while. Lovely.
Anxiously waiting for the Sartorialist to show something Curvy! Would love, love, love it!!!!!
This is the man from the picture 'Not giving up'!!! He has a sartorial charisma.

i love his smile and charm and all his accessories! looks like an authentic hippie
So Cute:)
Brightened my day...great pic. Proves that true style - the essence of style - is expressing your self and your individuality.
Peace, man!
Peace demonstration 1970 and the long arm of the law is about to put our hero in the paddy wagon.
I bet if he walked by you, he'd smell of a musky cologne intermingled with cigars *comforting*. I adore old man style.
Why don't I ever see cool cats like this on Hudson St?
much love
http://mouthmotions.blogspot.com/
this man is so cute!
Hobo chic? It makes me think of Favela Chich in Paris (& London). Nice to see that there is no discrimination based on age here!

Hey, Doug, can't wait to see you at Brimfield.
Look how jolly! His smile is contagious.

I'm fucking LOVING your posts lately - salt of the earth types with real personal style. Maybe it's just because the same people tend to pop up everywhere, but fashion month is frankly the most boring time for this blog.
Wow, so much personality in this picture. He looks like such a great character.
Fantastic. What a great shot! I must say I am in love with his outfit and want to see the bag he's wearing.
cardigan xD
ahh.. so cute! He makes me want to smile :)
this is the reason i love this blog. Keep it up Sart!
Cue the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
Love the spirit he embodies.
Grandpa wardrobe at its best!!
Hey, I think I know this guy. Doesn't he work for Ralph Lauren? Love the "rags and riches" look!
Cardigan, scarf, hat: want.
Doug is the coolest man ever. Iconic...
style hero? oh yes.
This man put a big smile on my face:) If Santa Claus were real and were on vacation in NY this man would be him, in his "off work" clothes, his stylish and lovely hat and his beautiful blue scarf. Wonder who is the guy behind him with the hand on his shoulder and the woman holding his left arm (it looks like a woman´s thumb)... Loved his smile!!
You know there's nothing more wonderful than a gorgeous man in nice sweater (or two). My kind of guy. I really appreciate that there are buttons in this photograph too. And the pin on his hat. A watch! He has it all - including the best fashion accessory - a fabulous smile.
His look is absolutely timeless... a 21st century Walt Whitman.
peace and love : )

Love him! (Big smile...)
omg.. what a cute grandpa.. i loveee this shot!!
look at his cardigan and scarf- beautiful\
Delightful. Always happy when members of "my generation" show that style is ageless!
this is the kind of person that i would like to grab a cp of coffee with :)
Awesome picture! He looks so happy :)
He's right! It's all about peace!

That's the guy who finds all the vintage objects for Ralph Lauren's stores right Sart?
the woodstock generation...who rocked the world with their messages of peace & love.
charming photo! I believe this man works for Ralph Lauren :)

There is so much character to this man. I could stare at this picture for hours thinking of the events he's lived through.
http://andreas-7am.blogspot.com
This man is just so full of life - I love his expression.
But that bag he has around his torso... I can only see the strap of course, but I just know that it's absolutely chic. I'd love to have one.
pictures like this one is why I enjoy visiting your blog :)
so more people are needed in the world.
I love this man!

Long live RL!
great photo!
he just oozes effervescence and the details throught his outfit are fabulous!
keep pushing the envelope - this photo really made my day!
A peaceful heart is always a great base to build a style upon.
(And a nifty little pin on a hat can be the frosting on the cake.)
Cute photo! :)

Wonderful man :)))
Santa's a hippie! Who knew? Peace sign, my foot. Ok, I like the sweater, it's nice, thick, warm looking. NYC weather may be about the same as Chicago's right now.
seems like a relaxed and nice person
This photo makes me ridiculously happy.

It's the reincarnation of Ernest Hemingway!
Bizarre outfit...But tender and warm smile!!!
http://misstoptenimage.blogspot.com
love how he's not posing a fashion pose but a genuine real person's smile and candor
Personal style is a wonderful thing - wherever you find it. And the anonymous poster who thinks it's "endearing for an older guy to do a peace sign" should realize that it was this guy's generation who started it.
He is my soulmate!
Papa Hemingway is back!
I love all his layers. He looks fab!
His name is actually Doug :)
He's in charge of the vintage line at Ralph Lauren. As you can see...with good reason.
Thank you "Key" for clarifying the origin of the peace sign. Nice to see someone using their hands for something other than a cell phone.
oh my! he looks like my dad :-)
Peace of soul !
xoxo

I think this might be my favorite photo on here to date.
Aha! What a lovely gentleman! :)
that guy was on sartorialist a long time ago.. he is travelling the world for Ralph Lauren, in order to find pieces to decorate the stores.
great guy.
I've been finding such inspiration in the older men's wardrobes I've been seeing.. great layering choices here.

always love how you always manage to capture harmonious combination of seemingly wrong items. Ace
Classic... Check his pockets for pot. That is the smile of a man who just scored some. LOL!
Cheers,

Looks like a Gansey.

awwh, cute! :)
What is happening to Robert ...? Sunny Side
he is always well dressed ...love his style!
Wow. He's got it.
I love your photos and I love this dude. Seeing his belly made me think about your controversial post featuring the lady with chunky heels to complement her "curvy" (or "normal," or "not a stick..." take your pick) figure. I'd like to point out an inconsistency: when you post pictures of more portly men, like this one, the subjects are simply men, sans commentary. But non-stick-thin women aren't just women, they're "curvy" women. There are totally stylish, curvylicious women out there, and I'd like to see them featured in a post without any disclaimer or framing language. You're in a position to help make the new normal!
I love it, this gave me a good happiness-injection. I want to meet him.
xx
He looks like he would have a lot of good stories to tell! Great photo...love his look!
i would love to converse with this fellow. also love the blue scarf as an accent piece.

thirds times a charm!
He is the man behind of RL, love him ;o
To the woman who called him "portly," Doug's actually quite thin but wears over sized clothes to mask that; not that there would be anything wrong with that.
Great guy! Thanks for your blog very much, for that big inspiration place. Russia loves you and wishes long-long life with happy amazing events!
What a dear old gentleman. He looks so comfortable and so effortless in his attire.
Wow xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want his cardigan. I'd wear it with a super short white cotton dress.

Man--I love this guy! He would be so great to talk to. And his clothes, his smile, his hands and the facial hair is so just right.
But I also like the bucket bag to the fore left of the photo.
Hey, this is the Ralph Lauren-Man, I once mixed up with Robert Rabensteiner in one of my (older) comment. It felt so humilating, but actually it was Robert´s fault ;-), because he is a cameleon.
This guy is almost as great as Robert (stylish). My second fav. on your blog after him.
You made me think of Santa Claus XD
He seems so happy... in a day I'm feeling so grey and seeking red this smiling slightly red face gives me hope. Great job capturing his personality, as always
xoxo
head over heels in love with knit!!!
This was a perfect image to see on a Monday morning....totally made me smile :-).

jeaninereyes.blogspot.com/
What a warm and inviting looking man. He makes me wanna peel each fine layer of clothing off to see who he what kind of book he is.
Love the RRL Guernsey knit cardigan! Such an iconic piece worn to a T.
I liked him better when I didn't know he worked for RL. At least he's not the same fashionista that shows up on everyone's blog. Great look for anyone of any age.
So great and such wonderful play in a chromatic color scheme!
http://www.nopants2011.com
He's the real deal. Had the pleaure of a train ride with Doug and a chat . He's always smiling because he loves what he does!

wait... isn't this Smee from the movie Hook?
http://images.hitfix.com/photos/495081/bobhoskins_smee_article_story_main.jpg
Great emotion, love the layering!
Gorgeous and very stylish, but he needs to lose that yellowing mustache around his upper lip. It looks stained by coffee and cigarettes and it's just gross.
This is such an awesome photo. I love it!!
This made me smile :)
He loves life, obviously. Great shot!
~ivy m.
I want to have him over for dinner and a bottle of wine and listen to the story of his life.
i can feel a beam of warmth full of positiveness in his gesture.
just makes me gape. brilliant
