Oh my, these ladies look so elegantly retro. Love, love, love it! People used to dress and take care of their appearance better in the old days, and I'm glad this sort of fashion is coming back in popularity. Mad Men's influence maybe?

the red lip seems to be popular choise with the 40s/50s inspired hair.

Anonymous Jessica said ... (6:57 PM) :

The problem with hair like this is that it needs to be 'done' to look right, and not like you rolled out of bed after a big fancy dress party the night before. In the 40s and 50s women went to a lot of trouble to make sure their hair looked 'done' and 'perfect' and in our low maintenance times it just doesn't work, and maybe looks a bit awkward in fact. Either use the hairspray and setting lotion or please don't try this look!! Ask Dita Von Teese!

Love the burlesque groove! And am going to assume that these two retro godesses are wearing very vintage or fabulously faux furs. After all, women with that much style & class couldn't possibly be wearing new fur, could they now?

Blogger Hazel said ... (8:25 AM) :

Aging and harsh. While I respect the vintage aspect ie. I like anything other than the status quo, most women's faces needs a softer frame.

Blogger A said ... (8:34 AM) :

Gorgeous first picture! It looks like taken in the 1950

Blogger Lúcia said ... (8:40 AM) :

breathtaking!

Anonymous Maryanne said ... (9:09 AM) :

the first photo channels the
1930's with the marcel wave.

the second channels the 1940's pompadour.

Blogger jackie said ... (10:44 AM) :

i love these beautiful hairstyles and how they're paired with crimson lips and lovely furs! i'm happy fashion is a cycle sometimes- these vintage styles are great!

Anonymous the Bohmerian said ... (11:51 AM) :

Not my favorite of hair styles but I do love how well they pair with the furs and the simple makeup.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:52 AM) :

Lovable! Now I´m looking forward to summer and some definite waves and curls! Then of course the effect of fur will be missing - maybe some pastel chiffon scarves -
Sart, thanks for bringing the fun factor up in fashion!

Anonymous Best of Beehive said ... (12:20 PM) :

If these pictures were aged, I would've thought they were taken in 50 years ago or so.

Blogger Ev'alapêche said ... (12:22 PM) :

I love the second one.
Old style is always the best!

Blogger cecilew said ... (1:56 PM) :

i love these retro hair ! especially the second one.

Anonymous Sara Lua said ... (2:31 PM) :

I love classic looks. Saves the mind, saves the wallet.

To everyone freaking out over the fur, I agree with you that the new fur fashions on catwalks now make me unhappy. But it is fine to wear vintage fur as these ladies are, because the animal has already been killed and the fur stored or cared for decades. It is better to prize vintage fur than to discard it as the life has already been taken. You can tell what is vintage fur by the fur and styling. New fashions don't cut fur collars as shown by these two photos.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:32 PM) :

LOVE <333 how do you find all these magnifique people? I never see people like this. or maybe I should start looking :)

just done enough to be glamorous & unusual without being too stiff & harsh (Reese Witherspoon & Sharon Stone at the Oscars were an awful warning)

Anonymous tallulah said ... (11:13 AM) :

I yearn to be that chic and polished but sadly, on an older woman, this forties look just adds years. So, please, all you younger women - 'glam' up and save us all from the laissez-faire attire that we are subjected to on the streets.

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:54 AM) :

As a hairdresser I really like it when people start to play with their hair and have the confidence to try style something slightly out of the ordinary. I also appreciate the imperfectly-perfect vibe.
