Victoria Beckham Fall 2011

Garance dragged me to the Victoria Beckham show at 9:15 Sunday morning :(

However, I have to admit she was right.

I spoke to a few editors afterwards and they all mentioned that each season Ms. Beckham's work gets stronger.

just read her interview in british vogue, where she states that she doesn't sketch nor draw and that many designers don't, but rather drapes material to achieve design.

the clothing appears to be very influenced by roland mouret.

the drape of the collar on the khaki dress is exquisite.

perhaps marc jacobs gave her the best advice: if you use quality fabric and superior construction of the garment, then you will not have any detractors.

Blogger S said ... (9:55 AM) :

These are amazing photos. They display the collection really well.

thought beckham was just more of the same. beautiful pictures though.

i was disappointed.

Anonymous Mark said ... (9:59 AM) :

The question is: "Is she actually designing herself, or has she got a designer?". If this is her own work, then hats of to her, she is a better designer than singer (that's not too hard).

Blogger R Orozco said ... (9:59 AM) :

Her work is great!

Blogger The Photodiarist said ... (10:00 AM) :

I agree with you. Am really loving Victoria's work year after year!

Anonymous Meredith said ... (10:00 AM) :

She always drapes her garments in an interesting way, but they are still extremely flattering.

Agree that Posh or whoever is designing the collection gets better and better. Minimalistic simple looks with strong feminine touch.

Blogger GINGER FASHION MONSTERS said ... (10:10 AM) :

I am impressed by how Victoria Beckham has developed. I think there is a tendency, certainly in Britain, to be slightly negative about her work in fashion just because of her previous singing career, and the fact that she is a celebrity. But her collections certainly do get stronger, which is a sign that she is not just doing it "for fun" or for money, but out of genuine interest.

I think Victoria Beckham's lines are classy yet "bright". There's usually a twist to each outfit which makes them turn from fairly common/boring to interesting!

I really like her work.

Nice stuff (if she really designed it through and through) but why, being British, does she not support the British fashion industry and and show her collections during London fashion week?!

Blogger Silvia D. Hernandez said ... (11:45 AM) :

I think people tend to underestimate Victoria Beckham's work as a designer because she is a celebrity, but i think she has found what she's good at. Every season i like her collections more.

Blogger Beautycountry said ... (12:29 PM) :

Love her collection...

And love the colors :D

Blogger / xw said ... (12:47 PM) :

Great color pallete and very impressive!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:06 PM) :

Color me surprised! The khaki and grey pieces in the second shot as well as the tight black tops with the kicky little skirts?? Sweet silhouettes!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:51 PM) :

I am surprised, I judged her as a lightweight in fashion. But then, she is always beautifully turned out and she has a sharp eye. Just that to turn that into this collection is remarkable. Also, the fabrics are to die for!

Anonymous kate said ... (2:01 PM) :

They do get stronger and I must say I love the structured looks of them. She really knows how to fit clothing on a womans body and that is worth a lot.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:04 PM) :

Victoria Beckham's work is getting stronger, Alexander Wang has the the first really strong show and Altuzarra recognizes that fall=cooler temps and thus includes coats, sweaters and the like. In your opinion (anyone's) what is it about Wang's show that is particularly strong? I see many unique overall patterns and forms but also intriguing little details that don't show themselves until the second or third look (at least for me) in the Wang show, but is there more?

Blogger marjorie rose said ... (2:05 PM) :

Very wearable clothes. I like that she put a cap on every girl as if they were mannequins -- living dolls.

The colors are muted, the draping and cut are not over-the-top. Everything is flattering..She continues to impress me.

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:13 PM) :

I'd sooner wear Beckham than anything I've seen from Gwen Stefani's line! I think Garance did you a favor. Was the hairdresser a no show?

Blogger Mare said ... (2:18 PM) :

i really like victoria. i think she she's had a bad "pop-culture" rap but she's moved wayyyy beyond the spice girls and has really come into her own. i think she's cool and elegant.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:24 PM) :

The future now!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:37 PM) :

I find the scary doll-heads covered with skin-tight black bathing caps a HUGE distraction from the garments.

Anonymous fashionhogger said ... (2:40 PM) :

How I love them all!! Apparently she's pregnant, too!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:44 PM) :

Lovely - but what's with the head piece/caps?

Blogger Kristen said ... (2:49 PM) :

I love the dress on the woman in the second picture. It's fitted in all the right places, and the neckline is really cool.

Actually, most of the dresses have that feature. I like it.

The skullcaps are interesting, though. They look a little bit like competitive swimmers! But I think she's going for a really streamlined kind of look...

Anonymous cricket said ... (2:55 PM) :

she does really get womanly, I think this has been clear for a time, but texture and oah that muted colour palette - this is truly inspiring...

Blogger ADJ said ... (3:04 PM) :

Just because she's a celebrity doesn't mean she can't be equally talented in fashion.

She has a good eye. I absolutely love that green dress and those belts and pleated skirts are so flattering. She's good with colour.

Blogger caribbelle said ... (3:36 PM) :

I'm really liking the asymmetrical details and the silhouettes. her colors are spot on for fall.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:40 PM) :

Those outfits with green skirts look so Alexander McQueen... as well as the bonnets/bands - don't they?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:09 PM) :

I have to say, I think your photos show the clothes much better than slideshows on NYtimes and the likes....great job. Also, I sort of dig the caps.

In a weird way, it reminds me of how some middle eastern woman cover their hair, and then you only focus in on the garment.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:19 PM) :

Beautiful and Modern. I am happy to see a celebrity designer take things so seriously and execute such a beautiful vision. Creativity is creativity. I admire her passion to go for it. It must be hard to overcome the spice girl stigma and be taken seriously. Bravo Beckham

Anonymous jdit said ... (5:16 PM) :

Stunning design and presentation. You can sense the movement of the maniquins in the shots. The African looking models are stunning in an almost otherworldly beauty way. The model in the first shot looks almost superimposed. Their postures look almost manipulated outshining those before and behind. Both appear dressed rather than draped. Scott, it's excellent, I can't stop looking!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:18 PM) :

I think seriously everyone is surprised by her amazing work It looks so not Victoria... or maybe I still have images of her in my head being a Scary Spice...

is this how all/most designers are born or come about. Someone who likes to dress well and then strives achieve the ultimate look of personal expression and where clothes from boutiques just wont do so design and make your own....that what I see here in Beckhams collections. just a humble point of view.

Just an Observation!

Blogger Natalie said ... (4:40 AM) :

A very beautiful collection, very her whilst having a nod to the current trend of minimalism and flashes of bright color here and there. It shows that anyone can outgrow a less than fashionable past and blossom into a fashion butterfly!

Blogger Suzanne said ... (7:45 AM) :

The designs are very nice. I especially love the Issey Miyake-esque skirts in the first picture. It's just a shame that the models all look like they hate what they're wearing. What's up with that? "Ugh, my job sucks, I have to walk around in fabulous clothes all day."

Blogger arlene k said ... (8:13 AM) :

Like the clothes although not keen on the curious chin-strap 'bonnets'. Boy, do the models look miserable...

Anonymous Silvia said ... (8:28 AM) :

The head gear look so much like an old season of Miu Miu don't you agree?

Whoever was there at the actual presentation knows VB is a real deal! She explained each look, and it was not learned kind of chatter, she really went into it, so no way she is not behind it!

This is by FAR her best collection, she is no longer a dressmakers, but has joined the ranks of designers now. This is a whole new level, what an epic collection! I even saw Wintour congratulating Beckham in the end!

Oh and i thought the caps were sooo amazing with the clothes, and the collections overoal look, they added, and it was a brilliant touch! Guido did it.

Oh and one more thing, i am not a VB the celebrity fan, but i can support this, this is stunning. And can we all acknowledge how diverse most of Beckhams model cast is? She truly has an eye for girls, and using all races, amazing!

Blogger Jg. for FatScribe said ... (7:39 PM) :

if i'm forced to choose betwixt and between victoria beckham and jessica simpson eponymous labels, it's obvious:

1. victoria's elan
2. and jessica's sales numbers

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:25 PM) :

Interesting piece in The Daily Beast on Mean Girls in the fashion industry, and general lack of respect toward female fashion designers. More specifically, the writer mentions snickering & snide comments among editors in the audience during Beckham's show and theorizes that they were reacting to her earnestness and lack of irony (vis a vis her collection and her presentation of the line). Personally, I'm not looking for an ironic dress for fall. These luxe cashmere pieces however...

Anonymous Nora said ... (3:00 PM) :

Like the clothes very much, but the caps (and those in the Marc Jacobs show) - not so much. Makes me feel they're smashing down the women's identities . . . feels oppressive. What does it mean? Covering up hair = covering up sexuality/power?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:20 PM) :

i think victoria is clever in using the caps.. makes the dresses pop even more. i loved her first few dresses.. loved this collection. her collection is usually the sort that i myself wld like to own. it's clean, classic and timeless.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:43 PM) :

Wow! Kudos to Ms. Beckham! I'm very impressed with the wearability and chicness of these classic yet modern pieces. The taupe dress in the second photo is a great favorite... sexy, streamlined, easy to wear. I also love the coats. And the colors are gorgeous, as are the belts and the boots. I'd happily wear any of these.
As for those who seated in the audience who were reportedly snickering, perhaps they'd better sit up and take note! This lady will be having the last laugh.

Great photos, as always!

Blogger Fanny Khoo said ... (3:53 PM) :

Still very unsure if she's actually designed the clothes. They have always looked from day 1 - heavily influenced by Roland Mouret, who's a master at his game.

Blogger Miss Bentley said ... (9:31 AM) :

I think she probably employs excellent designers.

There seems to be a different handwriting to this compared to her previous collection, maybe her team has changed?

Blogger Brooke said ... (10:44 AM) :

She's absolutely AMAZING. I just love Victoria Beckham so much. She really is great when it comes to minimalism!
