Radiant Moments: Snapshots Cast Their Spell

I'd like to send a very big and public thank you to my gallerist, James Danziger of Danziger Projects, for recently selling several of my images to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and to the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. James has been one of my biggest supports from the very beginning. His faith in my work is quite humbling.

Actually, if you happen to be in Tokyo next week you can see my work in an exhibit called "Radiant Moments: Snapshots Cast Their Spell. " I'm so proud to have my images hanging with photographers like Walker Evans and Paul Fusco.

Radiant Moments: Snapshots Cast Their Spell
Dates: from Dec.11, 2010 through Feb.6, 2011
Venue: Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography

P.S. James also has a great blog, The Year in Pictures. I've learned so much about the art of photography reading his blog for the past two years.

Dear Scott -

Congrats on your work being acquired by two major art institutions.

Your sensitive eye for color, texture, mood and composition truly make you an artist by any definition.
Every single one of your photographs - and this became apparent while devouring your book last weekend- have a consistent, completely unique aesthetic, that is at once formal, yet simultaneously full of sensuality, emotion and spontaneity.
There is also a connecting thread of joy - no matter if a subject is subdued, or laughing out loud - that is persuasive and infectious in every image.
The joy that is conveyed is so palatable to the observer – your joy in your subjects and your moment of discovery.
Your photographs also educate the eye of the observer in so many contexts – causing one to pause and look deeply, (if that makes sense).

It is exiting to watch your talent develop and deepen with each passing year.

Thank you for sharing your work, your talent, in such a accessible and wide open format.
Your photographs have become a nourishing part of my daily routine.

Please continue to illuminate and enthrall us, your devoted audience.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:46 AM) :

I've been to the exhibition last week, and was quite amazed finding your work among those of the likes of Cartier-Bresson and Walker Evans, and at how they fit in and work in the context. It's about the way one sees a moment of revelation and captures it, to share with others - the "perfection" level of the object is not necessarily important.

By the way, "RFK Funeral Train" series by Paul Fusco, from which you posted the other picture, was awesome, to sense that quiet dignity that had for a brief moment unified people. Thanks for sharing it!

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (5:21 AM) :

Anonymous WCW INSIGHT said ... (5:29 AM) :

Dear Scott,

Let me add my voice to your fan club. Your photographs with their depth and sensitivity deserve to hang in those museums. It is so refreshing to see style shot in such an organic manner across ages. Your photographs not only bring the person to life, but somehow manage to capture their essence with dignity and grace.

Congratulations as you continue to weave your magic spell of beauty to every day life.
