On the Street....Caftan and Coat, Paris

I love what Robert has been doing lately mixing caftans with tradition overcoats. Robert is ultra chic almost specifically because what he does is so subtle.

Blogger Susan Krzywicki said ... (6:47 PM) :

This echoes the earlier conversation about sleeve length. I like a shorter sleeve length on a coat - male or female. But then, the folded-over caftan sleeve doesn't seem right to me. And it starts to billow out under the coat sleeve.

This is also common when the under garment is a knit and the outer garment is a woven - the shorter outer garment then exposes too much of the underlying sleeve and it looks awkward.

He is avoiding it in these pix - but just barely. He is so pulled-together looking that it doesn't matter for the photos. He just looks great.

How do others feel about this?

Blogger Trou, .ma petite cherie said ... (6:55 PM) :

I really like the protruding sleeves in the first photo.

Yes, please tell us who this beautiful man is..Robert WHO!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:07 PM) :

Kaftans are one of those timeless traditional garments that look amazing on both men and women!
The gentleman wears it really nicely, I'd like to see his summer way of wearing it :)

The detail the kaftan and it trimmings bring to this look feels like it could be picked up in a few seasons, like a moving on from the folk trends.
Really inspiring!!
Love your blog for that!

Anonymous PJ said ... (2:52 AM) :

Bohemian, mysterious, and totally convincing.

His lack of accessories is part of the style he has created for himself. No hat, scarf, shades, and thankfully no cigar;), only his Hemingway style beard.

It ads to the impression of an adventurous gentleman. As if he were saved from a shipwreck - and given the captain's best coat.

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:19 AM) :

fashion week means a lot of posts on this blog! i love it~

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:56 AM) :

He reminds me of a Russian Czar in that caftan (he kinda looks Russian with that beard too), by the way, its pronounced the same in Russian.

Anonymous Léonore said ... (4:08 AM) :

Blogger Mapiki said ... (4:21 AM) :

Renaissance gentleman in the first pic. Love the shirt.

Very Chic Robert and keep the beard (even in summer).
A friend who lived in Paris says the Parisiennes don't like bright colours in clothes and mainly wear black. Can this be true?

This is not a Caftan, this is a Jabador... A caftan is a traditional Moroccan dress for women;)

Blogger onlycoolcats said ... (5:04 AM) :

only 2 words: stylish and handsome! damn handsome:)

Anonymous zizou said ... (6:44 AM) :

Gorgeous!! But this is not Caftan. This is a Jellaba. I know as i am in Morroco and that is what most men wear a coat.

it comes with no thought. If it did it would be overdone. ox

Blogger Handcrafts by Heather said ... (1:02 AM) :

Being knee length, and worn by a man, would this rather be designated a kurta? Perhaps I am mistaken but I thought caftan/kaftan were worn primarily by women and always are ankle length.

Anonymous NextCenturySean said ... (1:48 AM) :

Adore this man and his style. On my website I have a category called 'progress chic' that describes something that references the past but is thoroughly modern. I can't think of a better example than Robert's caftan/coat combo.
