This styling is so seemingly architectural. The hard edge between the pant and the jacket, the sloping yet squared belt, and the platform shoes ... all look like the beginnings of a great building. I love it.

I am intrigued by her pants, which are too big. That gap on the left side amuses me, though I really can't understand how her pants are staying up sans a belt! Nonetheless, that shift with the sweeping fabric is amazing.

I agree with the last comment about seeing Margiela on the street. These conceptual ideas are sometimes so crazy you'd never think you would see an actual real person wearing any of it. But how exciting that here she is in all her reality standing on the sidewalk in a pair of trompe l'oeil trousers, and, red lipstick to give it a bit of life in that gray London air.

Anonymous P8 said ... (12:39 PM) :

Sart, what on earth is happening with the waistband of her pants? Fashion has to serve some function, doesn't it?--especially street style, I would think.

I do love the rest of the outfit, though, especially the feminine blouse contrasted with what looks like a tux cummerbund, and the angle at which it is worn.

I'm with comment #3 - the outfit is confusing, i.e. what's this around her midriff? a belt? how do the trousers manage to stand out at her hips? and the length... how can she walk? but apart from these very mundane thoughts she - and the picture - is absolutely stunning.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:06 PM) :

I have been thinking about this image ALL DAY. It is incredible. Her body, in this clothing, is like a sculpture, and the proportions and alignment of her parts (left hip, shoulders, face, chest -length of chest, oh my goodness!) are so challenging. Whenever I focus on anything other than her right eye my mind goes into a spin trying to align her into a conventional shape.
Thank you. Amazing.

I go to lectures every day in that building behind her and the one week I have off where I don't go down there, Scott Schuman is outside my university taking photos and I don't get to get an autograph. Just my sodding luck.... People don't ususally dress this well outside along the Strand, London Fashion Week makes every dress up in the street fashion equivalent of their Sunday best. I'm pretty sure there were people doing laps there today though, not going into any building there, hoping to get their photo here. Love the blog x
