Marc Jacobs Fall 2011

Another great collection from Marc Jacobs.
However, this collection feels like it should be a Louis Vuitton collection in the sense that it's so refined and dressed up. I guess I've always thought of Marc Jacobs collection as sportier and LV as almost couture.

This collection makes me even more curious about what the LV show will bring in Paris.

Blogger Viorella said ... (9:33 AM) :

It does have this LV feeling, but then again if I see the bag in that first image I'm like "ahh Marc!". Right?

The decor looks stunning by the way!

Blogger Anastasios said ... (9:34 AM) :

Wow!!!!!!!!
Such a perfect collection! Excellent looks!.
I would just leave hats and gloves out but all the rest are amaaaaaaaaaazing creations.
I can't remember liking Marc Jacobs that much.

Thank you for sharing Scott!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:35 AM) :

It had some classical Marc Jacobs elements too it, but I agree... The collection resembles more a LV collection! I am excited to see it now though!

Hallo Scott,

I was thinking the same, how classy it is and how the little white collar thing accentuates it.
Cant wait to see the LV
You my favourite daily read:)

Blogger Rachel said ... (9:40 AM) :

I just love polka dot tights!! Founda pair yesterday .. nothing says 'funky' quite like they do!

:) Rach

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (9:43 AM) :

I thought Marc Jacobs' last collection was quite refined and elegant, too. The dresses, the greys, the fabrics, the A-line of the skirts and the elegant pointy-toed shoes. I like this, too. Particularly the play on polka dots.

Blogger S said ... (9:43 AM) :

Definitely interesting. Not sure if I love the polka dots. Great photos though.

Blogger GINGER FASHION MONSTERS said ... (9:45 AM) :

Wow! Trust Marc Jacobs to come up with such impressive clothes. I hadn't been that impressed by the New York Fashion Week collections so far, but this one is brilliant.
I love the shapes & the way he mixes textures together.

Blogger Gabrielle Pascua said ... (9:52 AM) :

I agree, but the repetitive dot detailing adds playfulness to it, though. I guess that should heighten our expectations for LV? Hopefully Marc can deliver...but I don't doubt him!

I love you fashion week insight, since subtext is a rarity, so insightful! Amazing pictures Scott, as per usual!

Uhhhhh....Thats amazing collection

I loved this

Anonymous karnit said ... (10:00 AM) :

love the collection but I totally agree on the LV feel it has. The only thing I just don't get, are these strange hats(head covers) that you see now in so many shows.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:03 AM) :

It looks like to much as a Balenciaga collection.....

Blogger RJK Home Solutions said ... (10:05 AM) :

I completely agree the collection is very LV, except some of the pieces did make it a sporty version (i.e. rubber wedges).
The show was amazing. From runway setup to music.
Thanks for great photos.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:09 AM) :

Wow, I absolutely agree. I though there is an element of "fun" within it with those circle-skirts. I look forward to more shows to come!

i can't imagine it gets better than this. the details are outstanding.

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:19 AM) :

Love the tights, love that pink dress with the scale like paillettes. I agree this collection has a very "grown up", proper feel, I usually equate Marc Jacobs with more youthful looks.

Blogger Inspiration exists said ... (10:20 AM) :

Really liked the sophisticated glamour of the collection, still playful with the polka dots motif everywhere.

Blogger comme fraiche said ... (10:26 AM) :

If you could only see one show, I would recommend Marc Jacobs, always in a class by itself

Blogger Mayuly Kamphan said ... (10:27 AM) :

polka dots everywhereeeeee

Blogger Nicole Dao said ... (10:28 AM) :

Now, this is why Marc Jacobs is my absolute favorite designer! He took polka dots to a whole different level. That skirt with the large blue sequins (if you could even call them that) is gorgeous. Bravo!

Anonymous caromari said ... (10:42 AM) :

I want to like this collect bc I love MJ as an artist but I just can't. It's not scrumptous enough to be LV and not nerdy-chic enough to be MJ. I don't covet any of the pieces. I don't see an overriding statement. They don't look fun or feminine or even cutting edge. All of the rubber makes me claustrophobic (yes, even the button-downs are plastic). I don't see this collection having the impact on the fashion vernacular that most of his others do. 'Meh" for me. (I think we've been programmed to like what he puts out and we just need to be startled out of our comas!)

Anonymous Cher@NewburghRestoration said ... (10:42 AM) :

Polka dots are in for the fall i guess!

Blogger Michelle Lee said ... (10:46 AM) :

Blogger CynthiaC said ... (10:52 AM) :

Didn't quite get the polka dot hats. Guess it was sort of a gimmick. And while I like the longer hemlines, I'm not too sure how well that would translate on people my size. I'm 5'2"ish, rather slim, but probably won't want to go beyond 1" below the knee...maybe 1 1/2".

Blogger The Photodiarist said ... (10:56 AM) :

While he isn't one of my favorite designers, I can totally recognize his genius!

Anonymous wearona said ... (11:08 AM) :

In fact I am a little bit disappointed. Of course the collection is rather LV than MJ but after all the general look is rather old fashioned except the use of new materials & the excellent shots by Scott. Let´s wait for the LV collection.

Blogger Gunji said ... (11:13 AM) :

i love the polka dots. it's inspired by the japanese artist yayoi kusama. i love her!

Blogger thwany said ... (11:30 AM) :

Anonymous cca. said ... (11:52 AM) :

I agree this collection felt more LV. But so far this is my favorite for NYFW. I love polka dots and the cinched waist silhouette

this is a testament to the designer's amazing talent. I'm absolutely in love with the textures, subtle pops of color and silhouettes. Kudos to M Jacobs. I'll be looking forward to creating some inspired pieces on my little sewing machine :)

Anonymous princessglee said ... (1:38 PM) :

Lol, that's a fun take on polka dots. I hope it catches on.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:45 PM) :

The looks as shown are a bit too LV-ish, but each piece could be taken on its own, combined with cooler bits, and re-contextualized into something interesting. Any of the jackets would look fabulous with tatty jeans and boots; the dot skirts would look great with a plain cotton tank...

good colllection......
but not in my style. XD

Anonymous Purple Heels said ... (4:04 PM) :

LV goes back to basics on this collection with pencil skirts and polka dots. I find the collection very elegant, simple and wearable. I specifically like the skirt with green circles, because it stands out. I find it innovative but pairing it with another polka-dotted leggings may be overkill.

Simple cuts with great fabric texture and a bit of latex.. brilliant reincarnation of classics.

Blogger 82Brute said ... (7:46 AM) :

Love the 1940s vibe and the use of color, shine and texture. (The pink rubber lizard is kind of a mess, though.) I question the combo of the below-the-knee skirt length with shin-high boots. What's left of the leg on most women is the beefy part of the calf. Not particularly flattering on most women, though it works on these extra tall/svelte models.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:26 AM) :

I am slightly worried about the huge sleeves in the first pic. I really hated the 80s and all that huge clothing. I prefer the suit with the fur polka dots (sans the dots). It is tucked and nipped in such a cunning way just under the shoulder.

Dear 82Brute (whose comments I often enjoy)--it's the _muscular_ part of the calf. "Beefy" sounds negative--strength is beautiful! :)

Blogger Unknown said ... (5:55 PM) :

Photo #1 is my favorite: dots on purse match leggings and buttons on coat. This feels like the look the designer wanted with the leggings on each model. Cool shot too, lights on foot are lined up perfectly for a stream of dark grey shadow in the middle of lighter grey shadow .

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:02 PM) :

MJ is tricky enough to make a"summary" out of what other (actually) creative real designers have produced a season before, find the whole thing a faky-freaky mixture...and fans nod accepting without reflection.

Blogger Hollie said ... (1:44 PM) :
