I'm SO excited to see your Seoul series. I'm from Seoul, but living in the US, so your images make me extremely homesick. Seoul's a great fashion city, although it's eclipsed by other Asian powerhouses like Tokyo. Thanks for posting these!!

Oh wow, I like his layering. It took me a minute to realize that he's wearing a blazer underneath the vest. The peaks of color are working for me!!

I like how it's crisp and smart but layered and complex at the same time.

Blogger petsipies said ... (2:11 PM) :

This reminds me of what Michael Cera might look like in Korea.
I can see why you were drawn to him. Bright red sweater, the "business blue" shirt, and what is that little bit of green at his collar, great colors that could easily be overlooked, the warm vest atop the sportcoat, feel like Issey Miyake choices. He looks very sure of himself and comfortable with his sartorial choices and isn't that what it's all about?

Blogger Alleen said ... (2:12 PM) :

I think if you took all of these pieces and separated them and told someone to put them on, you would certainly get push back but this is working for him...thanks for sharing! Cheers!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:31 PM) :

You've got a great eye! I'm Korean and it's funny because I'm always lamenting about how I rarely see fashionable Korean men with unique style but I may need to reevaluate this now. I heard it's freezing in Korea right now and I see a peek of the snow in the back but this guy is so chill~!

Blogger Eunice said ... (3:35 PM) :

It's so interesting to see how differently fashion bloggers see the people of a culture when they travel there. Facehunter went to Korea awhile ago, but he only captured a certain style of people while there, and I think he missed out on a lot. You, on the other hand, are doing a perfect job of capturing both what you think is interesting along with finding the most interestingly-dressed people of Korea. This is how fashion blogging and photography should be done! Thanks for showing the true style of Korea :) Hope you have an amazing time, and I can't wait to see the rest of your shots!

I like the color combination and textures- even the slightly cheap-ish vest is a nice touch. I especially enjoy the red peeking out of the tweed sleeves.

It looks like there's a huge shift towards retro fashion in Seoul right now. This reminds me of the late 1960's -70's style of students in Korea/Japan - maybe it's because of the new movie, Norwegian wood?

Anonymous MPJplayer said ... (4:05 PM) :

all items are random and there's so much color but it is not overwhelming. it's very flattering. Koreans definitely have an innate sense of style..

Blogger 82Brute said ... (7:29 PM) :

Loving the Roy Rogers vintage vibe on the vest. It would never occur to me to layer it with these colors showing underneath. And he's wearing the bandana (?) like an ascot! Combined with his hipster hair stylings, he's taken bits from the American style idiom (the bandana and vest) made them his own in a way that really hangs together. Cool guy.

Blogger Ro said ... (7:31 PM) :

loved that vest over his blazer, really cool!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:42 PM) :

something wrong with the image quality...

Blogger Unknown said ... (7:42 PM) :

This is one inch away from total tacky. It's being on that edge that makes it interesting. Being from Korea, I identify this with old world peasant look when they couldn't afford to buy anything that matched! Korea, you've come a long way. BTW, it has a unique cultural identity that's different from Japan/China. Sorry, got carried away analyzing. It's only fashion, right?

Anonymous Todd said ... (8:42 PM) :

It is a pleasure to welcome you to Seoul, Scott, the city which has been my home for the past 15 years. The environs of Dosan Park are one of my stomping grounds and it's not surprising you've found a good number of "meotjaengis" (fashion forward folks) mulling about.

The depth and breadth of appreciation for "style" as opposed to "fashion" here is growing at an exciting pace. Having evolved from being generally oblivious to style, Korean guys, many of whom until not long ago felt more comfortable having their mothers and girlfriends buy their clothes, are now fully aware of how to dress well and aren't bashful about spending money to do so.

For those readers who don't know, Korea is fast emerging from the shadows of her larger neighbors - China and Japan - to take the lead in influencing style and culture in Asia. Truly a dynamic place as Scott is finding out during his time here. I truly hope this is not your last time to visit.
