Best of Milan - Bottega Veneta

The layering, the rich colors, the subtly patterned suits, the slim but not tight silhouette - Bottega Veneta was easily the strongest show of the Milan season.

In Paris Junya was fantastic, I'll post those shots tomorrow.

Overall the shows this season have been less than stellar. Have you seen any shows that you love?

i like that blue jacket. also: could i work for you? :)

Anonymous terryl said ... (9:28 AM) :

I love the flip of the small lapel; it transforms the suit into a totally different-looking outergarment.

And the multiple button-downs sort of "opening" at the bottom looks like some kind of odd, abstract idea that look so, so right when done. Totally works. This is perfect.

I love the looks except for wearing the button-down shirts all the way to the top. a lot of men in europe seem to do it, i think it looks a little dorky.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:33 AM) :

The beauty of this collection is that it is clean, sophisticated, and timeless. You're going to spend the money, but the clothes will go the distance.

i like z zegna. it wasn't innovative, but for z zegna as a brand it was strong, and i like this type of clothes on men.

I feel with apparel, everything under the sun has been done.

Its really hard for designers to really nail stuff without trying too hard.

Not to sound cliche, but "timeless" "classics" (big buzz words) are always going to be the best.

Excellent style inspiration, not only for men but also for women. The first suit is actually very interesting. The other ones are casual and chic. Love the zipper detail on that last one.

i rather like the absence of no or smaller lapels, it's a much cleaner line.

fashion stripping down again after years of excess.

Blogger Rini said ... (11:37 AM) :

Well I saw pictures from the Louis Vuitton show in Paris and liked it a lot. I loved the "rich" black color of the clothes as well as the fact that they were so elegant, yet simple. The orange they used also was ok, if used only for one item (jacket). The combination blazer/sleeveless quilted jacket was interesting.

Blogger It-Blogirls said ... (11:39 AM) :

I love this show and I also like Prada, it was very interesting and I also loved Viktor & Rolf in Paris, for me it was prfect.
Thanks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:49 AM) :

I think that male shows in Milan still keep a good level compared to the female shows; for exemple september 2010 was so low level compared to paris fashion shows...maybe lack of inspiration

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:51 AM) :

I really liked Walter Van Birkenstocks (or however its spelt!) and Adam Kimmel...both for use of colour and show casting. I was really disappointed by Burberry Prorsum and McQueen menswear. Both just the usual Milan luxury brand/King of the Castle nonsense but with a slight/uninspired twist. And as for Galliano and Givenchy menswear...dont get me started!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:51 AM) :

Bottega Veneta were great this season

Blogger kappaboh said ... (12:16 PM) :

Bottega Veneta is rarely wrong! :)

Versace had a good show, in my opinion... I loved their skinny elegant pants and the leather jackets.
What do you think?

Anonymous kaveri said ... (12:23 PM) :

i'm liking the take on shirt vs jacket length..the longer shirt..last button left open (perhaps deliberately, perhaps just a aesthetically perfect mistake)..with the slim, perfectly cut jacket. but would it work on a 'regular person'..risk of looking a tad sloppy? having said that...slim belt at the waist. supremely elegant. and fresh.

Anonymous Sophie Mhabille said ... (12:23 PM) :

Scott, i just met you in Paris, during Ann Demeulemeester men's fashion show. I just wanted to tell you i really love your work

I can't agree more! Bottega Veneta's men's collection is just amazing - wearable, but still fresh and trendy and kind of classic at the same time. It is totally up my street. Mr. Maier has done an amazing job to create the men's line, right from the first collection. I am a fan!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:36 PM) :

I generally much prefer your on-the-street shots, but I can see why you love this collection. These clothes are _elegant_ and could easily fit into a stylish person's (as opposed to a fashionista's) wardrobe: they begin with classic, clean cuts and add interest with saturated color, rich but subtle textures, and small variations on generic conventions (e.g. lapel size). Nothing's fussy or precious, and it looks like the jackets could be tailored to work on more than one body type.

I could see someone wearing that wonderful midnight blue jacket for the next 20 years. These are clothes for people with _style_.

Outrageous pieces!! So very excited about all the collections. Menswear this season is impeccably done. From the double breasted coats, to brown rich palettes, coppers, boots, military coats to vintage and fun pieces in both D&G and the Dolce and Gabbana shows. Menswear is just breathtaking as well as inspirational.

Awesome show. Maier always finds that perfect harmony between relaxed and considered, always so much more successful in his mens collections to me.

I loved Umit Benan. His collection was so modern and masculine, without stepping outside of the box of wearability.

But yeah, a lot of disappointing collections for fall. Unfortunate
