On the Street...Wide Leg Jeans Shorts, London

I think these wide-legged, cut-off jeans shorts look so much better and fresher than the skin-tight cutoffs we have seen over the past four Summers.

it is said: "punk's not dead" but...denim too! ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:52 PM) :

Looks like Demi Moore

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:53 PM) :

I hate the skin tight ones, they just look so cheap even if the girls wearing them have good bodies.

Blogger Café Naïveté said ... (3:53 PM) :

I like the "seen days" look of this skirt. That is the charm of the real pair of jeans you wear for years. even of that tom boy look, she looks still super feminine, i guess its that look in her eyes or something..

Blogger bob pope said ... (3:56 PM) :

those shoes are it, omg

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:57 PM) :

it reminds me of a jean skirt but so much more functional!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:57 PM) :

Oh I prefer the skin-tight ones any time! This looks too frumpy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:04 PM) :

Um, what happens when she sits down?

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:04 PM) :

She looks like a young Demi Moore. Really cool cut off shorts! Enjoyed meeting you in Atlanta!

Blogger Sara said ... (4:05 PM) :

Is she Demi Moore???

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:06 PM) :

While I agree that "wide-legged, cut-off jeans shorts look so much better and fresher than the skin-tight cutoffs," I think that's damning with faint praise. Cut-off jean shorts, wide-legged or skin-tight, are the summer attire of choice of truck-stop hookers and meth heads. Esp. when the ensemble is completed with a denim shirt, as it is here, for the look known as "The Tennessee Tuxedo."

Blogger Dana said ... (4:06 PM) :

Love them!!!

Blogger chuck said ... (4:07 PM) :

There is something so chic about a woman in men's clothing

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:11 PM) :

it looks like she's wearing a skirt, not shorts. i don't know if i like this look much. maybe if the shorts were just a tad bit smaller, it would be nicer.

Anonymous PIMPRA said ... (4:17 PM) :

I agree with you. only for super skinny legs...

Anonymous fashionlessons said ... (4:18 PM) :

I agreeee we´ve seen those skin tight for looong, love her shoes!!

Anonymous fashionsdirtylaundry said ... (4:22 PM) :

Wow! Those take me back! I love her shoes-- and I love her stance: do you dare to take her picture?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:23 PM) :

and very underwear-revealing in some angles indeed. practicality counts when it comes to summer shorts.

Anonymous JRose said ... (4:24 PM) :

Sitting down in these would take a LOT of care. There is some virtue in fitted shorts!

Blogger Agata Likes said ... (4:24 PM) :

Love the model's attitude, great to see a woman in charge of her outfit and not the other way round.

Blogger Angel said ... (4:26 PM) :

I do like the denim on denim, but I really feel those shorts would have been better pair with a slightly more fitted shirt (not too fitted though). Aside of that, I like her shoes, and she looks a lot like Demi Moore.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:30 PM) :

Well this girl could wear both.

But some girls' butts with skin-tights...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:30 PM) :

Agreed!!!

Blogger urbanmosadi said ... (4:39 PM) :

THe shoes are from Zara. Wanted them so badly but just didnt have the luggage space. She looks Official. Can't go wrong with the denim on denim.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:41 PM) :

agreed.

Blogger Wallace Chapman said ... (4:47 PM) :

Great look, great face. These are like the old skool cut offs where you actually...cut them off yourself.

Blogger JustNorman said ... (4:47 PM) :

I guess there's nothin wrong with a little change, but I think I'd much rather like to see that skin tight walking down the hallway.

GUY MENTALITY I suppose.

Anonymous Tom said ... (4:52 PM) :

I love the shoes! I also totally agree about them looking better than the tight shorts we've been seeing lately.

no belt.
suede shoes.
oversized bag. = love

Anonymous Jane said ... (5:03 PM) :

Agreed. And they make legs look much slimmer. Win-win...

Anonymous YogaSpy said ... (6:14 PM) :

Even if it's loose on loose AND denim on denim (a double whammy), she makes it work with two different fabrics (medium versus faded blue; light and heavy; drapey and stiff) AND because she has attitude. Her tan also helps, although I'm not a fan of tanning for tanning's sake.

I still don't get the socklessness, however. Peds never stay in place and bare feet in closed-toe shoes are unforgivable. It's a dilemma.

Anonymous jimjims said ... (6:31 PM) :

those are some wiiiiiide legged jean shorts.

she's lookin pretty sly.

great style.

Blogger M. Barberena said ... (6:50 PM) :

I agree. My 16 year old daughter has worn the cut offs (formerly known as *hot pants¨) all through the summer, she looks sexy but vulgar. This girls looks very nice and wholesome , and, yes, the shoes!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:23 PM) :

I like the change, but on most people this cut can look very unflattering.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:43 PM) :

Completely disagree. I think the idea is fresh simply because skinny jean shorts are the norm. I personally don't mind these wide-legged ones, but I absolutely prefer a woman in the skinnier version as to showcase their feminine figure.

Anonymous Scarlett said ... (9:07 PM) :

'm an Italian girl, I apologize for my bad English. This "twin" of Demi Moore dares to look "I want to be a tomboy but not renounce my femininity" ..
Honestly, I do not like the shoes.
This look gives me the idea of an independent woman, who did not need a man .. This woman is determined, knows what she wants. As regards the return off and comfortable, sooner or later you will be returned even to that. I personally prefer the tight clothes, although some women is more vulgar.

Anonymous Well Done said ... (9:15 PM) :

I couldn't agree more!

Anonymous Lee Oliveira said ... (10:06 PM) :

Indeed. They almost look like a short skirt in the shot. Her skin tone really suits the denim look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:18 PM) :

That space between the shorts and the legs is so lovely and flattering. That elusive, perfect bigness -- I am always chasing it.

Blogger Muhammad Hatta said ... (10:19 PM) :

sick short! Really like it!

Blogger Augusta Hyland Wilson said ... (11:25 PM) :

This woman actually manages to give cut-off jean shorts an elegant ease. What's more Modern than that?

P.S. Enjoyed what you + Garance had to say @ SCAD last Friday; I'm a painting grad student, and even amongst the fashion crowd found your thoughts very engaging. Cheers to you both.

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:29 PM) :

I think the only thing that looks good skin-tight is, well, skin! I like the blue of her denim shirt, but I think I'd prefer something more fitted with the loose shorts.

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:07 AM) :

Those shorts are so charming. I think I'm in love.

Blogger Tanya Dempsey said ... (12:17 AM) :

Agreed.

Blogger Grace Escudero - The Afeminada said ... (2:41 AM) :

Shorts are a bit of a difficult topic..of course I don't like them to be tight (except the high waisted ones inspired by the 50's that I have). Sometimes it's a bit difficult to find other options out there, especially for a skinny girl like me. Too baggy anything makes me look to waifish.

Anonymous wholesale Burberry Handbags said ... (2:44 AM) :

Uh-oh... I think I'm the only person who really isn't digging this collection. The shapes strike me as boxy and awkward, and the colors seem garish, not playful, at least in combination. (I'd love the blue & green shoes with something else.) But I appreciate seeing the images with your commentary (and that of the other commenters)--it's fun to share ideas and impressions with smart, thoughtful people!

Anonymous Roychelle said ... (2:51 AM) :

huh. it does look better, doesnt it? i'm actually a bit intimidated by this woman. her facial expression + posture + outfit. hell, even her hair is all intimidating! even though i'd consider myself to be straight, i couldnt forgive myself if i hadnt mentioned how sexy this woman appears to be. confidence is key and its confidence she exudes.

Anonymous chonds said ... (3:19 AM) :

i absolutely love her look!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:32 AM) :

Not chic.

Anonymous AndrewinLA said ... (4:04 AM) :

The shorts are so ugly on her the rest of the outfit fell apart.

Only a woman would say these are better than thighs shorts, since you can't pull it off.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:57 AM) :

I have to agree, those cut off denim shorts look a bit ragged on 99% of women.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:02 AM) :

Not liking this at all. Just because something is different, doesn't mean it is fresh. In a lot of cases I perceive it as just a lack of taste.

http://cestsuperbelabels.etsy.com

Anonymous Yoram from Berlin said ... (5:10 AM) :

You can only pull this off if you have great legs to begin with. On most people this is a really bad idea.

Blogger Morpheus said ... (5:26 AM) :

Demi Morre, year!

But look is still great.

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (5:34 AM) :

She looks feisty...I've got a weak spot for these kinda girls...

Blogger Alisa said ... (6:17 AM) :

The girl does look like Demi Moore and has great knees.
This wide cut-offs aren't cool though. Seem to be rather uncomfortable. They're missing the whole point of wearing shorts (the point being, no one can see your underwear). This is just to demonstrate your underwear if you try wearing them as shorts.
The shoes and the shirt are great though.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:25 AM) :

I'm just glad to not see the pockets hanging below the hemline of the shorts.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:36 AM) :

Yes, it's me!
Demi Moore

Blogger Unknown said ... (8:16 AM) :

these definitely look more comfortable than the skin tight version!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:24 AM) :

In the olden days, we used to call that a "skort"
Ecclesiastes was right,"There is nothing new under the sun."

Blogger 18 Kerut said ... (10:03 AM) :

I don't know if anyone else see's this, but when first looking at this photo, I thought It was a very old picture of Demi Moore. Obviously it's not. She is a cute girl, very fresh clean and simple and really love the shoes.

Blogger joanaddicted said ... (10:34 AM) :

Demi Moore rocks. If it's not her, then this unknown lady is unlucky enough to look like the super gorgeous Moore and never have her own unique trademark. If it's her, then omg this lady never grows old. Is it her boy that keeps her bloody wonderful and endlessly rockin' beautiful?? or just the genes??? -(or should i say jeans!!??)
p.s. i hate jeans outfits, but she gives them a totally different character, so i might change my mind this time!

Blogger RHW said ... (10:44 AM) :

Wow. Stunning. Tell me you took more shots of this goddess!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:52 AM) :

sorry "andrewinLA" but do you have any clue?? no i don't think so.
And what are "thighs shorts" anyway, get it right... she looks HOT!!!!!!!!
Love her laid back coo, so simple yet striking...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:54 AM) :

OOooooo. Love those. Want those. Who makes those shoes?

Anonymous Sophia said ... (10:58 AM) :

I like the skin-tights much more than these wide legged ones. You have to have the body for it, that's true but when you have they look beautiful

Anonymous honeybeeandme said ... (11:32 AM) :

i would not call her hot, but she does the look well with her energy...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:46 AM) :

The shorts are impractical - a nice way to have your chocha on display for the world to see. Mini-shorts are tighter for a reason.

Blogger kate mcgill said ... (12:58 PM) :

Ive been secretly rockin these wide leg cut offs for years - but only when i garden or wash the car.....but i love seeing them on a cute chic on the street! i say "yes" to this flattering shape!

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:40 PM) :

Like the denim look shirt as well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:57 PM) :

I love real cut-offs, but to me there's something off in the length-to-width ratio here. Otherwise, love her hair, stance, attitude, shoes... she's just cool!

Anonymous evalyn said ... (3:10 PM) :

Yes! And she wore the correct shoes for the outfit. She looks relaxed, comfortable and confident.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:45 PM) :

I like this look from the neck up.

Anonymous fernanana said ... (5:06 PM) :

I agree with many of the previous comments: looks fantastic, but does look like a short skirt at the same time, and I'm also wondering what happens when she sits down...BUT more than anything else- what does it look like from the back? Could look very unflattering depending on the pockets and the seam.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:48 PM) :

She looks amazing -nothing contrived here just beautiful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:48 PM) :

love this look, she's made it her own, not getting the huge concern about her sitting down in this outfit you sit as you would in a short skirt, with fore thought as the young lady on the scooter in milan did..........not

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:51 PM) :

She looks amazing - just beautiful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:23 PM) :

Sorry I don´t like it at all. I wear tighter high waisted cut offs with loose tops and I think it looks nice.Just my opinion.. And well, Demi Moore´s secret to stay young...watch nip/tuck, I can´t believe people are that innocent nowadays.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:27 PM) :

She looks like the plusher 80's demi, and yes, I love the skort jeans as well. Anything a little undone and outside the lines.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:00 PM) :

she looks like Demi Moore... in Ghost... :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:34 PM) :

For me, this works because of the hair. The outfit is a but sloppy but the hair is very controlled and that balance makes all the difference here. The simplicity of the shoe also helps. Her stare is arresting, I think it's the tilt of the chin, she has confidence.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:11 AM) :

I love this site so much, and I hate to post negative things, but I HAVE to comment.

NO.

It's just... not attractive.

Blogger Liz S said ... (3:49 AM) :

Love her look, although do agree some who wear these might get a little self conscious about how they sit... and then it would look distracting.

Anonymous Philippine said ... (6:46 AM) :

just looooove this casual but fashionable style! love the shoes too

Anonymous SCS said ... (10:44 AM) :

Helps if you've got legs like a gazelle..

Blogger Cameron Adams said ... (7:32 PM) :

self possesed and fearless, not to mention a great use of that trickiest of fabrics, denim

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:52 AM) :

She is PERFECT

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:29 AM) :

while i like most looks you post, this is not one of my favorites. compared to tighter shorts, which i don't have a problem with, these are frumpy and wide. perhaps i'd be more into the shorts if she were wearing a different top.

Anonymous Yana said ... (10:37 AM) :

I don't know why...but she reminds me of Demi Moore in "Ghost")

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:33 AM) :

Beautiful woman, but the look doesn't do her justice. Did she just roll out of bed? Love the shoes, though.

Blogger Amalina said ... (1:41 PM) :

Interesting....these shorts almost look like a skirt. Not sure I'm a fan of them. But her shoes...they're something!
