Comments on "On the Street...West 36th St., New York"
Is he a mechanic or a model?? I would love to think he's just the most stylish mechanic in NYC (except for the cigarette!), but he looks a little too put together.
..This is why i love this blog. I prefer looking people like this with surprising characteristics and unique atmosphere/style a lot more than some 'style icon' a non-newyorker like me can't even recognise
Most beautiful overall I've ever seen. Probably because I've never seen anyone wearing a fáshionable overall with an actually intention to wear it while working and getting dirty. Awesome.
This is great! It reminds me of a grungier version of the cute outfits the Oil Can Henry employees wear.
I always imagine mechanics to be greasy and dirty, so this young man seems too clean to be true.
I like this shot. The zippers make the jumpsuit more interesting and his glasses are perfect.

get a little dirt on your hands
Style no matter what.
That setting sure helps blur the line between real work wear and fashion.

nothing interesting
Such a graphic dramatic pocket look.
Love it!
I love it !!
God I love it!
He is so peaceful and charming!
Well he's certainly not your average car mechanic!

forza!
This is awesome. To me it's all in the glasses and the cigarette.
wow, effortlessly cool
is he wearing onitsukas?
This is just cool. Is he a mechanic there? Coolest looking/dressed mechanic I've seen.
This is very cool! I like his posturing and stance too.

Neat!
But based in the shoes, I'm guessing he's not a real mechanic.
Real mechanics deal with grease.
The only thing striking here is his face. B&W highlights HIM, not his clothing. It's the same tone as the background.
Wow, he's cool.
It's all in the attitude. I think he is more elegant than Anna. It's proof that it's not fancy or expensive clothes that make a style. It's the caracter, the way things are worn, the attitude. Perfect.

Asian car culture at its finest (Don't be fooled by the Fast and Furious saga). I'm assuming this photo was not taken at a Jiffy Lube. A gearhead myself, car and driver must always look the part.
Cool. He looks just plain cool. Posture, glasses, everything. Love it.
nice jumper
Not gonna lie- this guy looks pretty badass! I think its the combination of the glasses and the outfit plus the way a person carries themselves always can make them look awesome too.
i liked until i saw the cigarette. it would have ruin any look
He really works it at work!
http://rawbeautyrawsoul.blogspot.com/
I love the way he looks into the camera, he respect his job and he's into it.
Also love how the car appears in the photo. This man looks like a role model for this industry!

Like the janitor girl with the dreadlocks - you can individualize any uniform and stand out at work. Pretty slick & stylized for coveralls with the zippers, and slim fit. Nicely rolled up sleeves, nerd chic glasses, and lightweight runners eliminate the grubby mechanic look and make him into a moto-tech.
so effortless but elegant

Great and unique photo. It has a very 1960's Pan-Paris vibe.
nice shot!
I think this may only look good in black and white
never the less, its something to draw inspiration from ^_^
if i was a mechanic that is how i would want to look.
Who would have thought these uniforms could look so chic?
xo

Innocent face, nice overall, and if I'm the owner of the shop. I will make this as a good advertising shots.

This is a stunning, stunning photo. The tension between the horizontal lines of the zipper and the vertical. And I love the expression on his face.

Its funny because i usually despise jumpsuits. He looks good! Goes to show fashion is limitless. (considering the work he carries out- i imagine it could get messy)
Oh man, he's gorgeous.
Car doctor! <3
no way. the best I have ever seen.
Very professional looking for a mechanic. Shows alot of confidence.
naturally stylish! I suspect the black & white has made the overall look very new & clean. As my impression of mechanics' overalls are usu torn and dirty with gease stains.
this is a great photo of a working men taking a break

Uhhhhhh, he got the power!
I like this shot...great inspiration
That has to be the most stylish picture of a mechanic doing his job. Good job!

In the words of that wise muse, Madonna..."Fashion's where you find it."
Maybe the best work outfit for a mecanic that I've seen! beautiful and grunge like!
This is a wonderful pic, great job! wow!

your blog is lovely... inspiring.
xx
that's 1 chic mechanic!!
(where can i buy one of those jumpsuits!?)
AMAZING!! The cigarette, the stance, the b&w, lovely.
www.citizette.com
do you really think this guy is actually a mechanic?? he works in a clothing store, people.
That ain't no grease monkey!
I love jumpsuits. I thought Jeff Bridges look really sexy in that part of The Big Lebowsky where he wears a white one. They work very well on stout people. I know a woman pretty big who wears jumpsuits all the time: she looks stunning.
Wouldn't have been surprised to see an ultra modern aircraft in the back... I just had this sci-fi movie flash by the looks of him. Über cool.
- I'm SURE the suede trainers match the overall colour -
I think he's totally cool, with the stance and the wonderful overalls. How does he stay so clean? He seems incredibly intelligent.
great pictues, love the blog :)
Sea mecanico...sea modelo...la foto es estupenda y el...también.
So neat!! Love~
http://lindahamouie.blogspot.com/
The cigarette is a dead giveaway that this guy's a model. Few real mechanics would risk smoking near gasoline and oil.
But what was the photographer or stylist thinking when s/he asked the model to pose with a cigarette in his hand?
This is great! Something Different!

Luftwaffe automotive.
YES! Oh my gosh, his posture. He's hot and knows it I feel.. but not in a bragging way.
I love his looks. This shot really stands out!!!

Quel bel homme!
Nikko!! Lookin' fly.
amazing photo, different from others..
haha, i love this pic.
he looks so cool and untouchable..
Great B & W portrait Scott, absolutely beautiful.
amazing picture!!
www.blancoyaparte.blogspot.com/
judging by the lack of grease on his jumpsuit, the choice of jewelry and the whiteness of the soles of his tom's, he is NOT the mechanic.
cute jumpsuit though.
*sP
So emotive
One of the best pictures yet!
smoking near oil and gas? mmmm something smells bad here...
Interesting mechanic.
www.theafeminada.blogspot.com
he looks way too clean and put together to be a mechanic!
jumpers are money.
digging those toms sneakers.

Surreal and splendid!

Amazing shot. Gorgeous ~
with a face & bone structure like that, he could get away with wearing a potato sack and he'd still look good.
Genuine.
i love this!
Cool guy at work! :)
this picture is just amazing!

I would never, looks good on him though.

GREAT PIC!!!

is that misko??
Jumpsuits are stylish, but normally look bulky. This one looks too slim to be authentic. Does anyone know who made it?
I sure wish I had me a car to get fixed.

the most amazing thing about this photo was actually finding a gas station/car repair on Manhattan! I think this may be the only one (south of 90th). Great style too, but that's what our New York types are known for!
Why in the world does anyone think this man works on cars???? He is obviously there getting his fabulous car worked ON! No mechanic dresses like this.
Love it!
Nothing to do with this photo, but why no stylish older women? The occasional older man, but no women. Just curious.
And by the way, I miss Gourmet too.
huh, is that a work clothing? freaking fabulous!

You have captured an amazing shot
and on the top of that you did in black & white
LOx
Love your photos, but this is my all time favorite!!!
Very good!
Oh yes. Real clever. Smoking at a car repair workshop.
Wow!
Great photo!
So much inspiration in this.
Lots of love

One word: YES.
Those aren't overalls - it's a Speed Suit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speedsuit
Go Team Venture!
this would be cooler if he were a real mechanic but the lack of grease or dirt anywhere makes me think more posed, but still a really cool shot.
It reminds me the italian futurism and the russian constructivism:a time with faith and trust in technology and looking to the future with a violent optimism.I want it in all colors.
Reminds me that I used to go to Texaco just because of fit of the Texaco uniform pants fit.
Super swish. Love.

I like this shot Sart. The focus is dope and I like the expression on the guy. Plus Black and White photography is my fave.
windowshop78.blogspot.com
He's officially the world's coolest mechanic. He could look under my bonnet any day.
I love this picture.
This couldn't possibly be a real mechanic. He's too clean, and they are not allowed to smoke in the same place in which they fix cars. I should know. My dad's a mechanic.
wow x googolplex times
this is great! Scott is a very inspirational person and I one day will have a book out too.
Check out http://lavish-livez.com
wow
where's he from?
his expression is pretty strong. good features as well. nicely captured.
wondering the same thing as Anon. at 6:23 PM - is that misko??
This proves how someone can be naturally stylish despite their clothes.
Interesting photo of a mechanic. I see nothing especially stylish in the overalls - I happen to have seen my mechanic in more interesting Alfa Romeo branded overalls (in Woodbridge ON), since he works and loves this marque. Nd I happen to own some as well, which I use for motorcycling on windy days. However, what is much more interesting is how the lemmings start outpouring poetic expressions of style and taste and personal 'je ne sais quoi', which at first are a little quaint, only to become annyoing. I've noticed this in many threads. Some pictures depict absolute beauty, like the lady in the hat, and a few others; but other pictures seem to me like Scott is having fun with us, just to see how accurate his predicted count of lemmings' comments was. So, this picture ultimately, is a good psychological device.
a skinny guy with a cigarette passing for style. uninspired, indulgent, and completely detached from reality. i love the idea of shooting a mechanic, but this is the sort of photo that inspired the scathing, spot-on and hilarious "derelicte" satire in Zoolander.
the photography is what makes it amazing...
nice work scott
Beautiful image Scott!!
i think the cigarette is no problem. no i'm not a cigarette-addict, but somehow, a cigarette makes a picture looking more cool... don't know, just better.
very sexy.. where can i find him? yummy!
Looks like a flight suit to me.
he's not a mechanic he works at metropolis
Trés chic! This is great propaganda for the field of mechanical workers, isn't it!
Some of these people look pretty unrealistic, like you would never see them in everyday life. Others look fashionable but commonplace. I enjoyed the blog. Here's mine: http://ihavetopeenow.blogspot.com/
The other mechanics must hate that guy.. he's so grease-free he must never do any work!
dude totally looks like my cousin :)
Dear Anonymouses: Yes, yes that is Misko. Yaay Misko!
seems Korean.
he's totally chic.
My first adolescent crush wore a blue overall. He was a mechanic, that also trained as a boxer. He smoked parliament and drove a Camaro. They just don't make men like that anymore...
