Absolutely gorgeous! She looks like a golden age jazz singer. I want to sit her down, talk jazz and shoes, and rummage through her dress-up box.

Great to see a beautiful woman with curves following the too-thin coathanger below. Love the red and black combo in her outfit against the red door. She has gone to an effort with the details in the gloves, bag, shoes and necklace and looks really well put together.

Blogger Unknown said ... (8:05 AM) :

What timeless elegance. From her gloved fingers to her red-capped toes....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:23 AM) :

Yes! For me, vintage always works, and will never go off trend! Your vintage photo contest a few months back was such such an inspiring reference point, and women such as this really are doing it for themselves! It's fun to see all the new designer looks each season, but I always go back to my vintage to create something that amuses and suits me ! So please, more individual style (vintage or not) and less oversized blazers, pleated pants, biker-whore stilletos with those red soles, etc. - that is not personal style, that is tribal desperation!

Anonymous Charles Preston said ... (8:23 AM) :

I adore this girl. If only people could follow her wonderful example...

Wow. She is absolutely beautiful. Like she stepped out of a painting.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:34 AM) :

Excellent style excellent shots! She knows how to work the proportions and the colours and is not afraid to show it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:34 AM) :

Very nice look overall, and a gorgeous girl but there's something about the way the dress hangs from the waist down that irks me. It somehow looks ill fitting--posture maybe? Just my two cents.

Anonymous Catherine said ... (8:35 AM) :

I like the look, especially the dress color and all accessories. Details are powerful and mean the style.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:36 AM) :

sweet dress, but overall a little overdo on the the vintage...her face is stunning though.

Blogger Vee and Rose said ... (8:49 AM) :

Trough these photos I see deep in the heart of the photographer...The perfection doesn't exist, but you are so close...

Blogger Jazzbuff630 said ... (8:59 AM) :

Modern, yet classic. If this was a black & white photo, it would strongly evoke the late '40s are early '50's. She is strongly reminiscent of my mom in her heyday. Therefore, she is beautiful.

Blogger grace said ... (9:00 AM) :

I love that you've taken the first photo in black and white. I feel one of your best portraits to date, or maybe that's just me - there are so many interesting ones to choose from, something about the black and white... great work

I <3 this outfit! The pearls, the bag, the dress! Love! Reminds me of the Louis Vuitton F/W 10 show in a bit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:41 AM) :

Exquisite. Vintage clothes were popular long before Mad Men. The closets of our mother's and grandmothers are a fantastic source. Frankly I'm happy to see tailored clothes that fit rather than pajama bottoms with Juicy across the back.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:41 AM) :

This is gorgeous (minus the shoes & tights) but, um, the lower part of the dress doesn't look flattering on her. I really hope it was just breezy when you were taking pix of her....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:48 AM) :

Irrespective of the fashion- that black and white photo has to be the most beautiful shot you have captured to date! Composition, tone and clarity just come together perfectly.

Anonymous Best of Beehive said ... (9:58 AM) :

It's like she stepped out of the 40s. Love the dress (especially the color), the choice of pearls as the accessory, the handbag is very chic and the shoes are flat out amazing.

and that bag adds so much grandeur in a way with the pattern :)

Blogger JJC said ... (1:31 PM) :

Do you have any knowledge about that purse she is carrying? I have one just like it that I got at a vintage shop - and I'm pretty sure my friend has one that is very similar as well... was this purse a huge fad at one point and spread around the nation?

Blogger jackieG said ... (1:36 PM) :

great, great shot. the red on red is surprisingly perfect, especially with the dot of red below on her shoes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:50 PM) :

so do you mean modern as in the way helvetica and an Eames rocker is modern?

i see this as beautiful and elegant, yes, but, although it appears to jump from the same era as the now famous font and rocker, modern would not be the first word that comes to mind to describe this look. i definitely wouldn't characterize it as modern in contemporary terms.

which gives rise to some thought about what images are conjured up by these words.

Blogger Scorpion Disco said ... (2:29 PM) :

Gorgeous colors and great style - a throwback to the 30's and 40's, but the dress really does not flatter her. i was reading some of the comments and people were commenting on how its great to see a woman with curves, and "real women" and such, but I think the bulkiness of the dress and the heavier fabric make her look bigger than she really is! Food for thought.

Perhaps I'm missing something. I hate to repeat myself about costumery substituting for personal style, but as I believe I'm seeing it again I guess I have to.

She's a beautiful woman and the natural hair is a nice twist on retro style. It may be the only modern element here. Otherwise, I'm not impressed.

Blogger Rosalind said ... (2:39 PM) :

That first portrait is absolutely stunning - she looks incredibly elegant. I also like the contrast between the monochrome shot, focusing on her face, and the vibrant colour in the full length - love the way the dress contrast with the tips of the shoes!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:07 AM) :

Truly gorgeous woman and photo.

As for the comments questioning how modern this look is--yes, it's an old-school ultra-femme ensemble, but she's wearing it with very modern confidence and strength. Her powerful, self-assured attitude and sense of fun (those shoes!) create a wonderful juxtaposition with the ensemble, unsettling and challenging old-fashioned cultural constructions of "femininity" as helpless and demure.

Blogger 82Brute said ... (7:40 AM) :

I'm swooning with nostalgia here. She's right out of my Civil Rights era childhood. And...are those crinolines under that dress? To die. The shoes crack open the nostalgic dream and make it modern. She's fabulous. Where was she headed dressed like this? Hmm.

She is perfection! The hair is immaculate. The color is amazing. The purse is the perfect detail.

(Where was she going? And is she always so well dressed?)

What a stunning b&w portrait of a stunning woman. Love the natural light and great contrast, makes for such a rich photograph.

what's modern about her exactly?
or is retro very now?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:41 AM) :

I love her out fit, it's so modern and retro in one time. Her dress is like any other dress in lots of shops but she has turn it by her bag and gloves

WOW. This photo took my breath away. For a while there i was starting to get tired of your images. The "on-trend" "Fashionable" people with the colour by numbers boat shoes and blazer. But these last few photos (mainly back in NY) have me interested all over again!

Those little black gloves just make it perfect for me. Her face, her clothes, and this photo are just unabashedly gorgeous.

i often wonder why many of your quite ordinary subjects are selected. no wonder in this case, and nothing the slightest bit ordinary.

in love, i am.

oooh - lovely photo! i love red aspects...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:00 AM) :

i think her dress (pockets) and shoes are modern, you can say that her hairstyle is retro but in my opinion it's a litte like grace jones :)now i see that te heels are like '80.
Retro is her handbag, pearls and gloves.
