Both photos are perfect. Summer joy of life, coffee and those blue shoes :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:06 AM) :

Those shoes are called "alpargatas" and were used by the Gauchos in the countryside of Buenos Aires. Nowadays it's a popular shoe around the stylish "porteños".

Blogger blake said ... (11:07 AM) :

I noticed a lot of men in Paris wearing similar a similar electric blue in their shoelaces the spring before last. A truly versatile color.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:08 PM) :

I want blue shoes now!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:09 PM) :

To the anonymous porteño:
those shoes are called "alpargatas" at least in Cataluña and South Brazil. I guess some catalans (or hardly a French guy) brought them to South America, where both Argentinian and Brazilian gauchos use to wear them.

They are wonderful, but turn into stone after a rainy walk.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:35 PM) :

This isn't a good look on either men. I love a splash of color, but this just looks tacky to me. And the first guy looks like a fashion victim. He's over-thinking it and looks a bit silly... his clothes are wearing him. The bag on the scooter is amazing, though!

The shoes of the first photo are the classic argentinian ALPARGATAS, wore by the gauchos.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:21 PM) :

In both photos, clearly the first, are they not espadrilles? And I particularly like both men's tapered, rolled-up pants. I have the espadrilles - Provence, but where, oh where does one find these flat front narrow leg pants? Thank you.

Anonymous Chuck3819 said ... (2:26 PM) :

Anonymous I.G. said ... (3:21 PM) :

I don't like that shade of blue to be honest. They remind me of the hospital. Plus it's so vibrant that I don't even look at the rest of the outfit. My eyes are just stuck at that one place, which really isn't a good thing unless I'm looking at their eyes/face. And the shoe itself looks like a sock to me. Sorry.

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:28 PM) :

To those wondering, the gentleman in the 2nd photo is wearing the slate colored Ake shoes by Zuriick (http://zuriick.bigcartel.com/).

I own two pairs of them and love them. Stylish, simple and surprisingly comfortable. Even better, they're from a small company in Utah.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:31 PM) :

That first picture is of Oliver Jeffers, a FABULOUS children's book author and artist whose work EVERYONE should know! His books are wonderful, sweet without being saccharine and his illustration style is as appealing as his street style. I was so excited to see him here on my favorite fashion blog!

Anonymous Maya Popkin said ... (6:02 PM) :

Love Love Love the "surprise factor" in inviting an unexpected (and preferably popping) shoe hue to an ensemble. It elevates the overall look and immediately seduces the observers attention - which is one of our main intentions when we dress up (well, on most days..)
People should play with this simple detail more often.

Love the style of both the girl and boy in the first photo--but am not so sure about that blue colour--maybe if it was a bit darker or toned down--to match more with the rest of the tones in his clothes.
Same comment re the 2nd photo--just my thoughts.

Sart--I am thinking your more recent photos are not as cutting edge and creative as you have had in the past. I hope I'm wrong but after a bit of a peep back to 2009 I do think I still see it that way. Hoping for some more artistic styles showcased soon.... :)

Hello,
if you are looking for those shoes and you are coming to spain, just ask for a light blue "esparteñas". They are the same as in the pics but without the horrible plastic base and nice "rope" based one. And hey, the pair is only 3 euros.

Blogger MBD/TAS said ... (11:11 PM) :

And let's not notice the gorgeous MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA men's shoes worn by the woman in the first picture (Margiela's team has been producing the most spectacular shoes of late...with price tags, sadly, to match.) Summer dress and androgynous shoes really does it for me.

Anonymous Paul (UK) said ... (9:56 AM) :

Lovin' the first pic so much but then I'm biased - I bought a similar cream Vespa yesterday! The girls helmet is a Vespa GTV Sienna Avorio (current design, not vintage) and the mans a Davida. Both available in the UK, but sadly not that beautiful bag I'm sure! I want one! Could we convince you to shoot more beautiful people on italian scooters as well as bicyles Scott?! I love what you do...

Blogger gringo jack said ... (9:12 PM) :

I have a serious question, here. From the month of May until now, I've been in at least 10 cities of a million people or more, on 3 different continents (including the one I live in.) I haven't seen a single grown-up man wearing his pants rolled up like this, unless he was pulling a skiff onto the beach. I haven't seen ANYONE wearing a suit with his pants rolled up and no socks. This has piqued my curiosity. Is this something I'm going to see "everywhere else" in a year? Two years? Or, is this a fashion trend that will not get out of London, Paris, Milan, New York? I was in Los Angeles for a couple of days last month, and I didn't see a single man dressed this way. I am a fairly late bloomer, as far as fashion goes, but I am willing to learn. Please, someone, enlighten me. (I love the second guy's shoes, by the way.)

The blue shoes in the second photo are made by a company called Zuriick. I have several pairs and the blue ones are my all time favourite!

Anonymous matilda said ... (12:08 PM) :

I have the same helmet! :D

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:03 AM) :

I'll comment on the second guy because it sums up best what I am trying to say. A splash of vibrant colour is great. However, when its a total neutral outfit and then wham, electric blue shoes, it just doesn't work. the splash of colour needs to compliment the outfit. Here, it just seems out of place. Typical black shirt and khakis and then, bam blue shoes. It doesn't compliment, it just becomes the sole focus. There is no where to look but the shoes. I think the splash of colour technique should be discreet and not on the extremities (gloves, hat, shoes, etc)... it works best as a scarf or pocket square or even a belt...something in the middle to balance it out, not tip the scales.
