On the Street....Proportion Play, New York

Our eyes play tricks on us.

This young lady looks almost provocative with her tailored jacket and long, summer legs. However, under that jacket, she was wearing the same jean shorts that all the other young ladies are wearing this time of year. From the front she would seem unremarkable, but from the back it's a whole different story.

I like her knit hat...it looks like one of the popular patterns on Ravelry. I'd like this outfit better with some wedgies or some shoes with height. It would be a little more sassy.

Blogger Kathleen said ... (10:37 AM) :

Understood. I have worn several "tunic" length tops and jackets lately that both hit nearly the bottom of my shorts. I have often wondered if this is proper or tacky looking. But then I think, "Its summer and 110 degrees outside, one must do what one must do". I think this young lady looks great, the shoes speak volumes. They tell you, when she turns around she's going to look just great. I looks forward to the weather cooling down and being able to wear a blazer. Wow, what a wonderful thought!

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:41 AM) :

And she's wearing Toms!

Yeah actually she almost looks naked ! I love the color of her hat !

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:52 AM) :

It's always something you can't see that creates the fantasy. And her legs and the unseen face are the biggest fantasy in this shot.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:53 AM) :

this would look better with heels. It would elongate her already beautiful legs and add to the proportion of the jacket.

That touch of buttery yellow is a rich choice and compliments the jacket nicely.

Here is a late-summer version of the "pants-less" look that was a hit at the top of spring season.

Blogger genevieve said ... (2:51 PM) :

Oh, what fun! Love the pop of color from the hat. It's so funny how the most alluring images always seem to reveal only snippets of a person; from the front, this would have been just another shot of just another girl.

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:52 PM) :

this is such a lovely trans-seasonal look. Chic and tailored and just a little bit cheeky. It can't be easy to show and much (long and tanned - jealous, moi?) leg, wear a luminous yellow oversized beanie and STILL work the look with an air of sophistication. I'm impressed and slightly envious. X

Blogger SabinePsynopsis said ... (5:15 PM) :

With legs like this I think she can wear as short as she feels like.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:46 PM) :

I like this look, but you have to remember sometimes fashion can get you into trouble. I had a similar look like this and walking home one night, some man followed be and grabbed my but from behind :(. I was fine and he ran away, but still. We got to remember sometimes I think, that we have to be careful what we choose to wear where.

Anonymous Johara said ... (6:16 PM) :

its your eye for such things that make you an artist :)

Blogger Carrie said ... (6:22 PM) :

nice legs, however i cannot stand those types of hats, it looks like an octopus is attacking her head.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:38 PM) :

totally agree with your comment on the back vs. the front. from the back you imagine that shes wearing something very chic and cool--it gives the picture an air of mystery

Anonymous Emily (Travel and Toile) said ... (6:52 PM) :

This is absolutely excellent.

not working for me. sorry, it just looks like she forgot to put on pants. nothing arty about it.

Blogger brightlightsbigcity said ... (8:18 PM) :

i have that problem all the time! people are always yelling at me to put pants on so i have to turn around-sorry my sweater is longer than my shorts

http://watermelonfeet.blogspot.com

Anonymous Kevin Park said ... (8:53 PM) :

Still unimpressive from the back, I'd say...from the back she just look like she forgot to wear pants.

Proportion? what proportion?

Anonymous Ashley k said ... (9:20 PM) :

I believe he makes an interesting point. I would walk up behind her and say wow, that girl could probably use a some more clothes, and yet as she turns around i would've realized she has shorts on and i wear the same kind of shorts sometimes. Should women not wear shorts this short or just not jackets that long at the same time? The photo is also interesting because of the use of color and angle. The eye level is shorter so she has to have been standing there for a decent amount of time for the picture to have been shot at a low angle, which sparks the question for me, what's she looking at? Are the people across the street looking at the same thing?

Blogger Ashley Reese said ... (9:29 PM) :

Great colors, awesome legs, etc!

Blogger Liz S said ... (3:40 AM) :

Like the sexy Cake song goes for Short Skirt Long Jacket....

I want a girl with a mind like a diamond
I want a girl who knows what's best
I want a girl with shoes that cut
And eyes that burn like cigarettes

I want a girl with the right allocations
Who's fast and thorough
And sharp as a tack
She's playing with her jewelry
She's putting up her hair
She's touring the facility
And picking up slack

I want a girl with a short skirt and a lonnnng jacket......
