sometimes amongst all these great shots of individuals we forget that fashion is subject to trends. kind of weird to see so many men looking the same...

Do I need a pair of white pants? I have resisted to buy a pair all my life but they seem to be necesary now. Am I missing out on something?

the man up top means business, serious business. the mo', the chambray, the white jeans, even down to the veins in his foot and tan of his belt. wow. the pose, pow! there is relief in the softness of his jacket and the whimsy of the pocket square. overall, he looks arresting.

White pants are so italian!

After the various portraits of Italian men in summery, sock-free bliss, the last photo's subject is wearing socks. Quite jarring to the eyes!

The first photo is just beautiful.

The mainstay of these photos are the trim fit white pants. You have to very secure with yourself to wear tighty whiteys. smile*

Must say, Italy has been good to Dr Phil. He looks svelt and stylish! Sorry, couldn't resist. But seriously, the white pants and all the shoes rule.

Blogger Zabrinah said ... (10:47 PM) :

I've always felt that white pants looked better on men than they did on women (well, most women).

Blogger Off the List said ... (4:47 AM) :

HELP - who makes the loafers in the last photograph??

Trying to find a good pair of properly made, subtle & refined shoes is - as far as I'm concerned - nigh on impossible. Not to mention trying to find a good cobbler to rescue over-worn favourites.

Any thoughts?

Blogger BasicbutChic said ... (6:29 AM) :

I give a special mention fot the second color combination : the mustards shoes are perfect with the dark blue "blazer" : two strongs colors with the white shirt and pants : that makes a dynamic and light allure !

Anonymous Christian said ... (6:54 AM) :

I am dressed exactly like the man in the fourth pic today... I am so Italian...:)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:56 AM) :

Great look! I've always loved socklessness, and only wear socks under extreme duress. Black shoes with white pants, not so much.

Anonymous choi said ... (8:56 AM) :

awesome!

Blogger Jhordana said ... (9:21 AM) :

Even if the white pants are not for every kind of men, this man has the perfect figure to use, tall, slim and sleek. The navy blazer and the impeccable suede shoes are perfect for everyone. Love that style!

Blogger davidikus said ... (9:21 AM) :

Well, I was wearing white trousers and suede shoes over the week-end & I live in London... Arguably, I spent some time in Portofino so I may have soaked up the influence!

I rather like tubular white trousers!

Blogger TaylorASHLEY said ... (9:26 AM) :

I love a pair of clean white pants!

I'm going to Florence so I look forward to people watching and observing how people dress.

Blogger Much Dutch said ... (9:50 AM) :

like i was walking around in firenze. but who knows what shoes the man is wearing on second pricture from bottom !!!! it's a wannahave. pls let me know

Anonymous Victor said ... (10:17 AM) :

A perfect summer outfit.
White slacks, shirt, blue blazer and suede shoes.
No men can go wrong wearing those!

Blogger Juan Manuel Trejo Sánchez said ... (10:18 AM) :

Are these guys really in uniform? It demonstrates how even the same clothes can express every people's own style. I will take the advice.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:34 AM) :

Simple classic and so easy to do. Love this shots. This is what Casual friday should have been like.

Blogger anthony said ... (12:16 PM) :

Great trousers, whatever their length, whatever their hem. Similarly, the shoes (ie great). I still can't do shoes without socks for men!

Anonymous cociolph said ... (1:10 PM) :

Too uniform.

Anonymous Laurent said ... (2:38 PM) :

Its not so much a uniform, it just works well and is cool and comfortable, can be worn everywhere. Fantastic shoes. I don't think all women know that good, quality shoes for men are over $300,even at bargain places-makes it difficult for most to have many options. Cheaper shoes? always look cheap, mostly plastic, and hurt!

Anonymous laurent said ... (2:49 PM) :

Love those blue suede wingtips!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:19 PM) :

From your photos I feel like every stylish man in Italy must spend half his time posing with one leg up on something talking on a cell phone. Its like they're all just waiting for you to wander by and snap a quick shot of their perfectly styled ankle. Fabulous.

Blogger Heidi said ... (3:57 PM) :

I do like this particular look, however this is a great example of something that needs the right circumstances to function. Here in Norway, most of the time, this would look just silly.

But I do like it! ;)

Anonymous Darcy H said ... (5:14 PM) :

In many places—such as Seattle—this would probably be conspicuous. It's a pity though because I love it, very sharp!

Anonymous Sabine said ... (5:18 PM) :

When I see a man wearing suede shoes, it makes my heart melt (+he must be 1)handsome or 2) extremely smart but trying to hide it!

Blogger Kathleen said ... (5:43 PM) :

Are we talking shoes or pants here? I think both! I purchased two pair of pants a few weeks ago. The same pant, one in black and the other white. They are the lightest chino possible, almost transparent. I have been wearing them both rolled up several times at the ankle with like colored tank. Or, black with white or white with black and shiny bronze sandals and tons of silver bangles. I can't get enough of this summery fun look.

I love these blazers and the semi-casual shoes with the white pants too. I will do this number when it cools down here in about three months!

Blogger JohnRobertLawson said ... (7:45 PM) :

It's fun to see those who dress uniquely, but the more original their art the less it says about their context, their city. I love to see these trends in fashion that overtake a city like the flu, maybe spread to other cities, or maybe just die out. Thanks for pointing this one out!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:25 PM) :

can anyone recommend a good pair of white pants to buy in the uk?

Anonymous StuddedLilly said ... (1:15 AM) :

LOVE this uniform. a great pair of white/light pants go a long way

Blogger V said ... (9:32 AM) :

The guy in the first picture pulls off the no socks look SO WELL :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:33 PM) :

Oh dear, guy #2 with the buckskin-colored suede boots - don't look too closely - not so cool. I would never let my man out of the house with badly finished hems on his pants. I don't want to see any socks, and I don't want to see any rough edges - of any sort :-). Norine

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:12 PM) :

The yellow shoes are fantastic, love that shot-- the ring too, something very sexy about this tiny glimpse of the man!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:51 PM) :

Blogger AA AA said ... (5:00 PM) :

Reminds me of the 60's style of Robert Culp in the I Spy television show. A great look for summer. Kinda continental thought b/c I haven't seen this look stateside.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:28 PM) :

image two: delicious!
image one: this is never a flattering posture for a man.
image three: not so much.
image four: the lace up oxfords are lovely! those loafers seem very well loved and probably feel great but look a little weary.

nonetheless, all of the images are wonderful fashion.

Blogger Jane See said ... (5:59 AM) :

If you look at them individually they look so chic, but when I think about it, they seem as if they've lost inspiration to dress up with their own imagination. But still I love the style :)

Love how crisp and purposeful the white slacks look. Well done, gents. (White pants on me guarantees and accident with coffee, marinara, or soy sauce)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:51 PM) :

I agree they all look strikingly similar, but then again, they look so dang stylish.

I think I may need a pair of white jeans.

Anonymous Laurent said ... (1:40 PM) :

I am surprised at the comments stating these looks are unusual or rare....not seen stateside! Its an East coast- NY summer uniform, Southampton and East Hampton parties: legions of men in blue blazers and white/tan/yellow! pink! trousers! socks are forbidden!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:15 PM) :

The fellow on the phone (first photo) -- so dashing! He is not "pretty" in the movie-star sense, but definitely catches one's eye!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:38 PM) :

Every time I wear white pants I live in fear of getting something, anything, on them. Yet all these gents appear un-marred. Perhaps I'm just too messy to wear white. I don't know, but I'm impressed with their courage!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:06 PM) :

and most are wearing socks. god bless them.

Anonymous Daria said ... (5:39 AM) :

The first shot is pure literature. It's a complete Scott Fitzgerald character portrait. It's art.

Anonymous SartorialStudent said ... (4:17 PM) :

A very nice uniform at that.

Anonymous Cesare Marin said ... (9:13 PM) :

Classic !!
Summertime = smart looks with white pants
Suede loafers, chukha boots... anything fits perfectly
