Loving the trousers. Reminds me of band uniforms from highschool.
those pants are amazing!
She is fantastic. The whole look - especially the hat - works for me.
Wow.
http://herribbonsandherbows.blogspot.com/
This is brilliant. Very eclectic, and yet it all comes together nicely.
"Spectators?" interesting choice of shoes....smiles.
I don't like much dark colors in the sun.
The mix with the pastel top is a bit weird, but it works on her.
I love the hat. I always wear a Panama hat when it's sunny. It's a style that's ok with pants, unlike other kinds of straw hats.
i have those same band uniform pants, color and all---got em at a Goodwiil Store. hahaha they look great!
yeah, baby, 2 3 4 !
love the pants awweeeeesome

still motion.
I love that hat and grey tee! Her pose reminds me of Michael Jackson in the Smooth Criminal video! :D
In my opinion, it is hard to find harmony in that look. Thought the hat is nice, clean and clear a summer must.
Wow, brave but nice outfit!
I love it! :-)
Love her pants.

NOw in days it's so hard to capture a fabulous trend setter on camera !

absolutely adore this outfit! from the easy breeziness of the cardi to the athletic casual vibe of the pants...nice!

So cool, with understated confidence
It's an improbable combination of pieces, but they somehow work for what must be a hot summer day.

love her look and she is gorgeous!

WOW. Jen, my all-time favorite Sartorialist muse! She was interviewed not too long ago on the Domahoka blog:

Super interesting read!
WOW!! That girl is great :)

What a mess.
She looks great!
I'm pretty sure that's a Maya Neumann hat from the hat shop in Soho.
She's wearing several pieces from J. Crew. I love it.
I wonder if those pants came from Goodwill. They have to be from a marching band. More power to her for reping them.
girls in hats loook so cute
come follow the first ever fashion blog from a Guys POV, let He know what you think
fashionbyhe.blogspot.com
It's a messy"I just got out of bed and threw something on" look, but she makes it work with the hat somehow.
I love her face! She's beautiful :)
So COOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty girl, great pose, but the clothing's a little too random for me.
me encantan los pantalones!
me encanta el blog!
te sigo!

she is gorgeous!...love her look...the pant is amazing
What is that in her hand? An iron, a defibrillator? You have to have a lot of personality and confidence to wear that kind of diversity with style and pizazz. I'm not sure it completely works. It just looks a bit too eccentric.
I love the simplicity of this outfit, yet it has a lot of character.

She looks natulally.
Hut and cardigan・・・all items are good ventilation.
It's refreshing!
Love her Panama hat and her pose...
Fab outfit. I love the casual look with the crumbled vest and the grey heather top in its simplicity. The pants are perfect match to the general outfit.
I simply don't understand someone needing attention by putting together an unfathomable ensemble. The worst of this are the comments from other readers. I don't believe she put thought into this mess. It doesn't "work," as many have stated.
I think if the trousers were black it would become much classier, although more European. But the silhouette comes together well. Great photo though.
Beautiful girl (great pose too), great summer hat, but the light voluminous neutrals on top with the dark graphic pants and shoes just does not work. I love eclectic style, but this is just totally out of balance.
not sure about this one...
I like this look!

For David,
You seem so sure David. then why exactly doen't it work?
Do you have a formula?
I like the pose. Nice shot.

The pants look like U.S. Army dress blue pants.

I can feel the fresh air...
This image is perfect. She looks relaxed, happy and effortlessly stylish. I would do bad things to get my hands on that tank top and those pumps! This may well be the first and last time I ever say this, but I actually LIKE her sweat-pant style trousers. They work well with this look. X
Oh that gauzy caridgan is perfection!
http://www.fashion-butter.com/
This looks like such an "easy breezy" photo...like the weather was perfect that day! Love the hat ;)
The pants are indeed the US Army dress blue pants... also now called the Army Service Uniform.

Love the site! You make fashion accessible to everyone. Wish I would see more publications run images like these. You don't always need over the top photo shoots. So refreshing. I direct my 14 year old daughter here instead of the 14 year old going on 40 fashionista. Cheers.

This shot is awesome. This woman is so exotic and foreign yet still so new york. She is a rare siting. You make this seem like hunting.
in that respect, when is mating season?
The wind makes this pic so special. great!!!
http://thestyleograph.blogspot.com/
I like the light. I love her expression and her posture, how she carries herself. She looks at ease.
When I take notice of what she's actually wearing, I wonder if it's Laundry Day. (Hipsters! I know.) But she's pretty, and she's posing as though she were dressed for a wedding. It makes for a really arresting, inspiring shot.
very eclectic!

Jen always gets it right, even if not obviously so to everyone - it's about the sum, not the parts...
This is great! I love her stance in this photo.
Beautiful picture.
I love it.

this look is great!
When I was in high school I wore my dad's army dress pants to high school. He would've killed me if he had known so I snuck 'em outta the house by wearing a pair of jeans over them. I had no idea I was so cutting edge.
This picture is a good reflection on why classic lines and style always works while being trendy just looks pretentious. She clearly know how to pose well and she is is physically attractive but there are so many things off about her outfit, the bagginess of the shirt that is then tucked in. the clashes is all the wrong ways of the colours. The only keepers are the hat and the cardigan she has on.
Nice movement...!

-the diary of a belgian stylist-
Thank you for giving those of us sweltering in NYC something that looks a little cool! She's like a sail in the wind.
P.S. I also like it that she doesn't seem to be wearing a bra. As a woman, I can attest that getting rid of that one layer--usually made of nylon, poly, and other not terribly cool fabrics--can feel so good on a hot day.
Great photos, love her trousers.SarahD:)
love her pants. she look beautiful!
the-red-zebra.blogspot.com
The pants seem a little too pretencious to me. But somehow everything on her worked together and made a unique style of her own.
Maybe the gray unpretenciou T-shirt balanced the pants.
The pants have to be from a band uniform. haha I know from experience :]but I have to say it's a very eclectic look. The bottom half is harsh and the top soft. Nonetheless, It's very humorous and well put together. I want that hat!
I now know who stole my hat.
BTW, are the trousers from a drum major or a security guard?
woowww amazing!

We've seen her on your blog before, no? She seems like a highly creative soul with a strong connection to the past whose style is inspired more by memories and aesthetics and art than by runways or magazines. I adore her approach to dressing.
SR
Not a lot of people can pull off this look. For some reason, the way she carries the ensemble makes it work.
God I lover her, she always looks so great. I love all many styles.

I love finding Jen in your posts! She always looks amazing. ..
And you always capture her personality.
ralph lauren pre-spring collection 2010 pants
This is not a very flattering outfit for her. Maybe it's the gray top that's throwing the whole thing off for me.
love her style :)
In some ways this is anti-fashion, the pants with the stripe, the crumpled jacket together, when one is formal band wear and the other is cruise wear. The tee doesn't seem to fit into the whole thing at all, and yet... She doesn't dress formulaically at all, but she does stand out as well dressed. Everyone is saying how much they adore this look but I don't. I would have preferred loose grey pants with this, but then, how would she have worn the gold jacket with it?
oh,I really like this outfit, particulierement the trousers are awesome with the gold detail.
That look in her eyes calms me down.Sometimes clothes mean nothing.Beautiful lady.
me gusta que los elementos funcionen igual de bien juntos que por separado. Me lo pondría para un desayuno un domingo!!!
OMG cool style, I love the pants!
Just bought that hat, or one very similar to it, at Edie Hats in Vancouver to cover my post-chemo hair. So this is a nice surprise! Can't beat a classic Panama. And my guess is, she doesn't much care if some of us don't like her outfit. :-)
It brings back memories of my daughter dressing herself at four yoa. Her favorite was her tutu with Poo Bear boots, and a faux fur vest.
ah perfect,
i feel inspired!
i think the possibility that she put very little thought into this outfit makes it that much more appealing, and perhaps most of the reason why it "works."
Her shoes. I love them.
Gotta love NYC style! Love the hat!

it's amazing how someone can make trainers look cool
*training pants, sorry
That jacket is gorgeous!

Go to the February 2009 page from the archives...same woman?
The clothes are so secondary to this picture, all I can see is the woman. Her character just explodes down the lens.
The pose? The expression?... Who knows?.. Its that thing that keeps us all hooked..
She really pulls off this dressed down look well!
Amazing clothes!
I follow u
Hope you're fine

oohhh. her outfit's cool. you're really amazing in taking photos! so great!

She's a lovely girl and it's a striking photo, but I'm not a fan of the whole outfit.
Again, the shoes the cardigan the pants and this hat? This does not work. I know that is not what you want to hear.
you've captured miss jennifer krako so perfectly - such a natural....sweetness inside and out
LOVE HER WHOLE ENSEMBLE. This might be my new muse.
I love a woman that's confident enough not wear a bra just for the sake of wearing one. Very sexy in a subtle manner ;)
Otherwise, the best part of this photo is the pose - terrific.
Perfect pic and NYC look! Well done! <3

I have that hat haha
love pants and shoot
She has mastered the "i just threw this on" look. Lovely.
What a beautiful silhouet!
A look that charms on the young and reads as bag lady on the mature.
oh I miss ny, though never been there
Power beauty!
I adore everything but the pant, absolutely hate the pant, looks like a sweatpants and a marching band uniforms lovechild, besides everything is so flowy and soft the contrast with the heavyness of the pant is a bit much
Amazing crepe jacket.
http://izzenxoxo.blogspot.com/
I'm a bit over fedoras (i'm just jealous 'cause my heads shape can't take any hats) and the pants are a bit heavy for that fresh summer vibe, i like the colour i would have just done maybe a lighter fabric, something that moved like the blouse
great pants! yea
http://www.sweetgonzalo.blogspot.com
I love those marching band pants! Those are hard to find! (even vintage hunting) Fabulous picture! And hats off to her for great style even in the summer heat!

Love the pants! but wish I could see more of the bag, looks a bit like Bottega Veneta bag
such a great shot!Great outfit!
I have shoes just like hers.

What a symbiosis. This look really comes together. I love it. And are those Persona Beads?

I rather detest this look. Each piece is competing, with no cohesion as a whole, even her stance is competing with the clothes.
I love her combined style look. Her shoes look so like Jackie O. but without completely becoming a copy of the icon, she makes the look her own. It is wonderful.
I love women with fedora's!
windowshop78.blogspot.com
love the lines
Such confidence! I love the movement in this shot with the fabric from her sweater blowing in the wind and the fabric of her pants. Is she posing or keeping her hat from blowing away?! Very fun shot! I wish I knew what book she is reading! I would love to spend a day in that outfit, looks like something I could have confidence in too, but be free and relaxed at the same time!
I like the mixture of different styles that this picture shows.
Seriously? People like this look?
she has a great presence, but it's a little all over the place- in a bad way. if you cropped her head off and ignored the cardigan and flats, it looks like something you would wear while lying on the couch vegging out to the television.
I feel that this photo really is a prime example of why Europeans berate our style sense here in America. The heavy thrift-store marching band pants paired with much lighter materials on top and the straw hat... it is kind of a serious mess. And the shoes would look so beautiful with a pretty skirt -- every piece seems to be fighting to stand out more.. and seriously detract from her very pretty face.
Interesting here how the textiles have become simple accidents (in the Latin sense of the word) expressing that young woman's relaxed mood & self conscious personality. Pointless to talk about brands or matching colors here.
What a wonderful moment, what a beautiful mood. Makes my European appreciation of NYC even greater.

Attitude saves the day:)
early american college kid laid back.
....meh... kinda works on 8th ave. would be laughed off the streets above 42nd.
so beauty
i love the androgynous look; the pants, the slouchy tee, the hat, and her haircut..but with feminine touches like the ballet flats.
http://www.soleiltoday.blogspot.com
It's fine from the waist up but those pants are just gross-very unflattering.
I so love her style but more than that I lover her attitude. She looks strong and confident!
Ack! How cool to see some military dress blue pants tailored perfectly for a woman... I'm very used to only seeing my husband in such pants. This shot instantly made me go "a-ha! awesome!"... maybe I will have to steal a pair of his dress blue pants that no longer fit & make them my own ;)
xoxo
is she wearing MENS LANVIN pants?
cool
This works on her, in fact looks fabulous on her. I will never understand fashion. But in my lack of understanding, I am becoming more and more certain that an outfit being good or bad is because of the wearer, not the outfit itself.
