This is interesting to me. The overall impression is young, carefree, relaxed, happy but individually there is nothing in this "look" that I like.... Funny how fashion works!

Anonymous PinothyJ said ... (9:43 AM) :

Wow, she really is beautiful! It is funny how a picture of one woman could capture the feel of the summer month over there in the States.

Blogger mm said ... (9:54 AM) :

I love how she combines elements (such as the prints of the skirt and top) that could easily seem tired and old and wears them in a completely fresh and youthful way. The volume and length of the skirt maintain a playful feel thanks to her bare midriff and off-kilter belt.

Blogger Barbara von Enger said ... (9:56 AM) :

AH, what a happy, smiling, joyous girl! This picture says - "I'm embracing Life so miraculously"....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:57 AM) :

I love it on a girl this age.

This same outfit can also be seen at a flea market in PA, worn by a slightly overweight retiree with swelling feet.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:04 AM) :

This is a great outfit: young, fresh, and playful. Her personality is captured as well, which makes this outfit perfect on her whereas it might not be quite so perfect on someone else. Great shoe choice!

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:10 AM) :

I adore this outfit--she's so fresh and beautiful!

Blogger Vinda Sonata said ... (10:11 AM) :

i love her style. she's a beauty, too!

Blogger Leslie said ... (10:29 AM) :

Anonymous is sort of right, which really is interesting and true about fashion: one outfit can be adorable on someone (like here) but that doesn't mean and can be worn by another person with same results. It's not just age, but attitude, body type, confidence (I don't care how gorgeous you are, if you feel uncomfortable it won't work). Anyway, she's very sweet.

Blogger P said ... (10:39 AM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:36 AM) :

I like this, the floral top with the polka dot skirt. I really like the sandals, they look like something I've never seen before. The skinny belt makes it. And her attitude, which is what fashion is all about.

Blogger Stacy said ... (11:41 AM) :

I love her sassy attitude!

Blogger anthony said ... (11:51 AM) :

Oh my goodness, I am censoring my eyes. She plays some kind of sport. Her arms are slender but her calves are strong. She wraps herself beautifully in and around her outfit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:29 PM) :

Love to see more shots of stylish women wearing flats. I grew up in those shoes. They are called Saltwater Sandals (http://www.mysaltwatersandals.com/). I especially like the way she uses the brown shoes with the black skirt and top.

The one thing I don't like is the unanchored belt. It seems lost and looks uncomfortable to me.

Blogger puderfee said ... (12:29 PM) :

Cute. Nothing like street wear fashion.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:47 PM) :

She's adorable but the sandals are unforgivable. They must be burned immediately, their ashes deposited in an old mayonnaise jar, and buried at Fresh Kills Landfill so that they can never hurt anyone again.

Blogger Erica said ... (2:00 PM) :

She wears her carefree attitude so well. (Also like how even the ribbon on her keys matches the rest of her outfit palette)

Cheers!

I'm laughing at the discussion of her sandals -- they're a classic American childhood staple -- saltwater sandals. They do come in adult sizes, and haven't changed (other than in color) since before *I* was born. You can get them lots of places, from Basin Department store (my local outlet) to Nordstrom & of course, here: http://www.mysaltwatersandals.com/

Anonymous foshoko said ... (1:40 AM) :

saltwater sandals!!!! i grew up wearing those--as a kid i called them saltwater taffys :) to me, they are the epitome of summer, a new pair signaling the beginning of a season spent at the beach, the lake, and running around outside. and here they are, all grown up but just as sweet...! thanks for the bit of nostalgia...

As I said before, I would love for you to have a page with cities, and buildings, and neighborhoods, and streets, as a sideline.
Your portraits of Manhattan, of Brooklyn, of Florence, of Milan, of Paris, are just as great as the portraits of people (children and old especially), and of the clothes they wear.

Those Saltwater sandals take me back to when I was little! Lovely picture, great photo subject.

For those who asked, the sandals are Saltwaters, an inexpensive brand that's been around for decades and named that because you can wear them in the ocean and not hurt the leather. My mom used to buy them for me at Nordstrom two decades ago.

She's cute but to my eye the clothes remind me too much of the late 80's suburban rayon/slob look. I lived amongst it so its harder for me to accept it, however 'vintage' it may be. But maybe part of the appeal of this picture is the contrast; it reminds us inner beauty supersedes all and is the best style asset one can have.

My daughter struck a similar pose for Martha Stewart Living magazine four years ago and I am happy to report she made her way to Brooklyn yesterday from Connecticut to visit her cousins. I don't know what she packed for the trip or whether she'll be snapped again. But thanks reminding me.

the sandals are inspired - very early 50's ( or earlier) cornwall bohemian holiday..as if she's just left her sketchbook and watercolours back in her tent. Hadn't heard of saltwater - now off to have a look so thanks...
