love love love, beaded cuff?
http://nevereversitting.wordpress.com/
Wow, she looks like an Austen heroine down to the waist, and then....
Reading from top to bottom - It is the hair and the grey Converse All Stars. I love the twists, texture and colors of her top knot and of course on my short list of summer wants are grey Converse. And then the romantic eyelet dress with the contemporary bracelets and the Blackberry. A mash up done well.
OMG! what a lovely outfit. Gorgeous really... :)
i love the messy updo!
Ahhh...the 'pretty rebel'look. Very cute!
great hair, cute dress, pity about the sneakers, sandals would have been cuter (but maybe she doesn't want to be cute)
beautiful photo, Sart. Love the combo of the eyelet dress, the old converse sneakers and topknot. Nice catch.
scenes of everyday life, loved the super natural .. I like dirty look.tenis...

I love the scruffy converse with the girly dress!
Oh I love the casual nature of this image and the juxtaposition of the dress with the plimsoles. She looks cool effortlessly cool.... sometimes the best fashion statement one can make !
http://stylebyqueens.wordpress.com/
awful another boring take on shabby chic
CUTE SUMMER FROCK-COOL CASUAL-JUST SAY NO TO THE HEAVY KICKS,ALTHOUGH THEY DO MATCH HER PURSE!
Very cool combination; white dress, dirty allstars, coffee and a mobile phone! its just how life is!
Great, women after men of all ages, he,he.
I like the shot: pretty delicate dress with trainers. Mobil always comes first, very N.Y.
Thanks for sharing
Sacramento
Love the hair!
http://Thegirlinthecheckscarf.blogspot.com
I like the dress, kisses
Love her hair do!!
styleloverlena.blogspot.com
Love the hair! Remind me of the Moulin Rouge dancers in the Henri de Touse Laetrec paintings. The white dress contrast beautifully with the gritty staircase. She looks both spiritual and earthy.
Loving the hair... The converse with the dress make a nice contrast...
http://valentineavoh.blogspot.com/
She is perfect! I love it when girls pile their hair on top of their heads like that. I love the scruffy converse too, they definitely make the look. Without them, the dress would look too "fussy"...
FIRST COMMENT!
and the first picture i've seen in ages of someone that doesn't look too over-polished :)
Quite 70's and romantic. Nice.
knots
cute hair :-)
I love everything about this photograph.
i <3 her hair doo!!! Kawaiiii!!
NaNa
Love the composition of this photo; the grays!
I love her hairdo!
I love it! It's funny because I always wear white dresses with grey converse too. I'm also liking her top knot
her hairstyle is so cute :)
http://lavie-amonavis.blogspot.com
that is some amazing hair and some amazing outfit . white girly dress with converse and colorful bracelets . wowwwww .
i love allstars! so comfortable
xx http://asianeyedgirl.blogspot.com/
so chic
Love all the fashionistas in Soho, in my opinion they are the utlimate cascal chic
love her loose bun
http://f3style.blogspot.com
I love the swirl of light and movement in her topknot. ;)
this chic bun is just perfect!

LOVE her hair
Looks very comfy. I'm actually kinda jealous because I've contemplated throwing on a pair of chucks when my heels were killing me. I'm just way too vain, lol!

Beautiful and nicely balanced. I love the contrast of the delicate dress with the scruffed sneakers.
A very pretty cindy loo who, and so summer!
She's so brave to sit on those stairs in that white dress.
Love the dress, the sneakers, the hair, the whole look!
I think that wearing a dress with converse is SO CLICHE and I am really over it... Its not edgy or different if everyone does it. BORING and not cute
I don't like the look, i'd never wear that... what i love is her attitude: the way she seem to say "I don't care if you think this is a good look or not".
LOVE THIS!!
Adorable!
http://cestclassique.blogspot.com/
I love her hair(just for her).she's splendid,a heroine of Goethe.
Liiiinda!!!! Très jolie fille!!! Sooooo cute!!! Looooove her hair!!!
Bisou.
that's ali! she has incredible style. she just left marni to climb mountains in alaska. she also has a massive dreadlock underneath that head of hair. such a natural beauty.
first reaction was: awwwwww.
love her outfit and love her take on the messy updo.
noise-and-ambition.blogspot.com
The composition of the photo is great.
Unfortunately, I do not like this outfit. I guess I'm the only one.
The whole Converse sneeker thing mixed with anything was "clever" at first, but now I'm just bored with it. Another shoe with that pretty dress would suit this attractive girl. Sorry, guess I'm a fuddy-duddy or have just seen it TOO many times.
Oh my gosh what a fun outfit to runaround with!
www.fashionsmind.blogspot.com
Wow, I really love this pic. All of it!! The Converse just completes the outfit!!!!
Thanks Sart.
her hair is adorable!!
LOVE her. Down to the coffee cup, love her.
Love the lovely face, very cute!
And the dress is also nice!
But the chucks, no way!
I think it's cool she wore this cute dress with all stars. Most people (yeh.. including me ^.^) would wear it with heels or sandals, but these shoes are what makes the look so interesting!
Check my blog if you like :)

This look is such a cliche.
a lovely summerdress!
Love the topknot and dress, but the shoes are a big no.
adore her top knot!
nice colour combination.. grey and cream.. who would've thought :)

Definitely not your typical Soho girl! She seems so fun and classy.
Great to see shots of N.Y.C in the sunshine. More more more! x
I love the eyelet dress. x

so cute...she look so self-confident!!!
wow! I love this outfit! and her hair! and how the converse add a special twist to the dress...and the dress!!! oh!!! i am in love! :D
http://kcomekarolina.blogspot.com/
very cool mix...fabulous dress
it's so nice to see someone who isn't model skinny and has their own style rather than following a trend. Great photo!!
As a dedicated Chucks with dresses wearer I LOVE this photo!
Love her hair. That dress is so Laura Ingalls-Wilder in the more perfect way possible.

EMPIRE CUT
great casual look!
<3
Wow, she is a modern day urban princess!
Loved her hair style!
GOD I MISS NY! and that is an intricate bun, very interesting that she accessorizes with her hair.
First off it's just a fine fine photograph. Natural, mostly symmetrical pose and the hair tops it off. The dress and shoes and beads are lovely.
(kind of makes me think of David Tennent's style for Dr. Who).
I love the chucks and the updo, not so much the dress. I wish I had her attitude though!
Converse All Stars are an absolute no go!!
A lovely mix of modern street style and romantic and dreamy!
Love the contrast of the Chuck Taylors
Love all the "shades of gray", but hope she sitting on a magazine or something, those stairs look filthy!
very beautiful
Yes!
cute. love the contrasts.
Interesting contrast of fresh, delicate femininity and urban decay.
http://cloudofsecrets.blogspot.com
Maybe it is the illustrator in me, but the very first thing I noticed were her flushed cheeks. That is what makes her look fresh, yes a bit Jane Austen, maybe it was a hot day in the city (hence the top knot). I like the flush.
Great combination.
Lydia xxx
Love the photo! You can tell this is a woman who is dressing for herself. She looks at home in the world.
love how she did her hair, how amazing!
Beautiful girl, but unfortunately this image illustrates a common phenomenon these days - young people with faces down, self-absorbed in their digital device, oblivious to the world around them.
Very care-free! I need to start wearing more dresses.
Lovely hair and posture...
No no no! Anyone who sits on steps in NY in a white dress has no regard for being clean. Dirty shoes too. Yuck. Sorry Scott, most days I love your work!
I like it! Converse with a dress... I must try this outfit soon!
Not into it.
I do not like the shoes - they look like they are being worn accidentally but they have been chosen carefully to downplay what would have been a twee look. The whole thing looks a bit too contrived for my liking
The hair.
i have always loved dresses and converse hightops combination, her hair makes it 'her' i think
please come visit!

What's the most overused cliche? Converse sneakers.
Give it a rest.

this picture simply needs to be framed in my room!
http://modebanana.blogspot.com/
A princess on Prince St.
Very very actual in my opinion.
The hair ! (how does she do that ?)
The converse !
The dress !
Bag
Bracelets
Pretty face
The pose...
Everything works pretty well.
Bravo.
I have a dress just like this one but it is threadbare and from a vintage clothing shop. It has all this lace stitching of flowers and is very fragile. It cost around $200 but was absolutely worth it! I like to pair it up with converse and a tea-towel hat. Voila!
So relaxed and light, I really like her look
agreed chucks & a dress is not a new combo but she pulls it off effortlessly, genuinely; the hair elevates the whole look and takes it a new place.
what I like about this look is you het a huge hit of her personality, an appealing mix of flirty girl and tomboyish. very fun vibe.
THE perfect picture
lovable
Love the dress, love the hair, love the young woman. But honestly, her shoes must go. They ruin the outfit!
She needs a pair of Frye Harness 12R in Khaki. And no, I don't work for Frye. I realize this blog is about personal style; and I have seen a lot, no tons, of incredible style here. But one has got to know when one is over the top and where to draw the line. Does this self-awarness not constitute great personal style? Go with the boots next time!
Is it just me or does it seem like she has the loveliest blush on in the world? I'm not sure if it's the shadow from her bent head or some other trick of the mind. Either way she's lovely.
Blackberries really are the best accessory.
atticusshop.com
Very fun hairdo! The dress looks like it would be so refreshing to wear on a hot summer day.
But the whole wear-converse-with-everything has gotten boring.
Beautiful
love the pic. she looks so effortless and independent, busy in her own little gsm world. the top knot and the hair looks cute. very nice subtle colour combination.
http://elenavasilieva.blogspot.com/
very nice
http://fashion-world-style.blogspot.com/
I usually like the looks you post, but I'm just not feeling this one.
I see potential in the bag, though.
Love her eye.
And love when people aren't afraid of ruining their clothes by, well, by living!
Tinkabelle! The word popped into my head the moment I saw this image. She just glows, and such a whimsical topknot too. A modern fairy.
...I dunno; this looks a little dirty to me :-/.... but then again maybe that's the appeal.
Check your credit
ALove her not being a skeleton. And the combination of her shoes and the dress.
Her hair is so cute.
I think she's beautiful. I love the dress;the hair - but the "unexpected" ha ha - shoes are so overdone. We get your point already we've been getting it for 20 years.
this is a beautiful image, the way the colours of her surroundings work with her outfit, she looks beautiful.
Charming.
Back to Soho. Thank goodness!
love this style!
bon-ton dress with a casual pair of sneakers for everyday...
love love love the final effect..
;-D
www.theinfluenceofemmekay.com
Uau! I loved it.
I love her pose, but I can't help thinking that the beautiful cream dress is going to get all dirty on that step!
love her dress!
Outfit is great but I think I love her blush the most! I love rosy cheeks!
wow, love this! x
yes, yes, yes,
this girl is real from the tippy top of her head to her toes. beautiful legs.
sandals would have ruined this. a perfect taste of what is YOUNG, FEMININE, FRESH, and NEW YORK. kudos.
Oh yes.
I've always appreciated the "don't judge a girl by just her dress" look.
I rock the demure dress and grungy vintage Paul Smith high-tops too during the summer.
It catches the eyes of both men and women. And I LOVE the attention!
I've been known to skip down a street in such an outfit too; it's definitely a skipping-friendly ensemble.
I have loved reading all of the previous comments!
She is too perfect for words.
Lovely lovely....the hair, the slightly off white dress, grey allstars and muted grey tartan bag and beaded bracelets.
Just hope she threw the foam coffee cup into the recycling.
To make sure a white dress doesn't get too dirty sitting on stairs etc-- sit down and get up without sideways movement and also don't move around too much when sitting.
Cute!!! Sometimes you just want to do that and rebel..lol
Miss Rosy Cheeks has a cute, fun look. Vintage and modern at the same time.
angel in america.
Wow! Those sneakers say it all.
Thank goodness, a woman who looks like she had something to eat in the last month...! the animated clothes hangers are so over-done, and it's nice to see that a healthy girl can get noticed for her beauty as well.
ooooh! lov this dress ! :D :D
amazing hairstyle ;))
xoxo, silkypuff.blogspot.com
Very pretty lacey type dress. Wrong shoes.
It reminds me when I was a teenage and was torn between assuming my feminity and still, needed to feel like a rebel. Actually, I'm still like that but it's more because heels are just so painful especially in summer :-)The contrast between being a woman and comfort!
i love her figure. she looks healthy and so beautiful. want to talk about cliches? what about the ever-so-wispy super skinny waif? entirely, utterly over it. love this photo. xx.
one of the coolest outfits i've seen recently. this is my current favorite.
Great pic! Love the contrast betweeen these used Converse and that romantic dress! wow!
www.abitoffashion.com
I like her. She's all about comfort and individuality. Laid back and confident. She's nice.
I love her hair, complexion, posture, I agree that sandals would have ruined the outfit, I adore Scott Schumann's photography. But has no-one noticed that she is normal sized, as opposed to the starved-to-death stick insects that normally seem to feature exclusively in fashion blogs?? It's good to see that 'stylish' doesn't necessitate equal 'thin', and that just normal sized people can also be stylish enough to catch a brilliant photographer's eye.
After reading this blog for ages I guess I'm still trying to figure out what the point of it is. I certainly love the photography. Fashion wise - not too often.
I mean what is the point of this, its certainly not "new" or innovative. I see this girl (or girls that look just like her) all over Boston. The dress with converse is what 10 years old at least. I've had mine for well over 10 years now and stopped wearing them ages ago with dresses because everyone does it now.
This isn't about how to pick clothing that looks good on you, I can't 100% tell with her sitting but it appears the length of the dress, when she would be standing wouldn't fall to a place that would be all that flattering for her body type.
The hair is different and I like it. But the look is: been there done that - 10 years ago.
Very Cute!
xoxo,
Luna.
http://lunallove.blogspot.com/
hair :O)
A private everyday moment caught beautifully. She has her own style and looks to be confident and relaxed - lovely, lovely, lovely.
This kind of reminds me of Carrie Bradshaw- not that she would ever wear Converse but I still think the feel is very Carrie Bradshaw! Love it!
This is a beautiful photograph capturing a summmer morning in London. It has a renaissance feel to it with the curves, the drapes and the marblesque corrugated steps. Thank you.
Ok, Converse are comfy and all, but sometimes they're just so unnecessary. The dress is so lovely, her hairdo has some retro' feeling that can never go wrong, but Converse? They just seem so wrong to me. A nice pair of simple brown leather sandals or oxfords would have worked so much much better, in my opinion.
Tokyo Quadrille
I admire this woman; she's a type of woman with confidence. While most women work hard to expose their beauty, this woman keep herself as she is.
MAN, do I wish I could wear my hair like that.
love the photo, like the outfit, but i wonder what it would look like when she is standing?
cute, but she needs to get up off those filthy steps in that delicate white dress! she gon' ruin it!
I love the dress and the bag and the shoes. she pairs it all together well and you can tell she feels comfortable. I love this!
// It's all about the hair, shoes and BBerry. //
//Charapan//
love the combo of femme dress with converse trainers. fancy and frilly doesn't have to be formal and the casual updo is perfect for the look.
its all about those converse! such a quirky look- i love it, great shot! xx
Absolutely lovely! The Chucks are fab and her hair is to-die-for.
The lady in this photo looks super lovely and as much as I love converse they should not be worn with this dress.
Converse shoes usually make your feet look bigger than they really are, especially if you are wearing a dress, shorts, etc...
Definitely, the converse make this great.
-Ste www.stitchesfabricandsoul.com
Anyone notice her skin? Specifically cheeks and sternum?
Chucks and their kin, PF Flyers, have been around since 1917 and 1937 respectively. Wearing them with ANYTHING isn't cliché, it's classic. Please get over it.
Fashionista snobbery; now that's a cliché that needs to be over.
She's magnificent and perfect . . . and so is this shot!
Thank You
rAsp
I agree with Samantha: the spirit of old-school Carrie Bradshaw. Lovely.
I love the hair....=)
I love her look, cool photo
xo.
http://worldwide-djae.blogspot.com/
It is a mess.
This works for me.
Love this... she looks wonderfully self-assured and comfortable in the world. Living her life is clearly more important to her than staying pristinely clean or trying to be hipper-than-thou, and she looks great doing it. This photo makes me smile!
I love the hair! Looks amazing!
I love her dress, it's very girly:)
The (im)Perfect Harmony
An absolute dream!!!! Ali is a good friend and her personality is just as delightful as her outfit.

am i the only one who thinks she's not old for that dress? i mean, it's already "girlish", then the sneakers and bracelets. but then, she's no teenager- she seems above 25, right?
no, im not an age-gestapo. maybe it's the sleeves, but she looks like an over-aged primary school kid. she's a doll, for sure, but there's something about the upper part of the dress that makes it too girlish rather than feminin, if i make any sense with that. maybe some silver accessories would suit better.
she's a woman, after all, and i prefer "cute women" to "women who look like cute girls".
Love the shoes with the dress.

I like the twisted hair.:) Looks funny and refreshing.
Those complaining about the dress with Converse look being 'boring' and 'outdated' - perhaps it has actually become classic. The combo lets women like me live our lives comfortably while expressing our contradictions and enjoying dresses.
I don't think this look has been too overdone or too "cliche" as someone put it. I think that it's an easy, young look to pull together that juxtaposes the delicate feminimity of the dress and ratty, scuffed casualness of the Converse shoes. She looks lovely and so much better than half the young women her age strolling around in cut-off jeans and tanks and is a fantastic representation of a girly casual look.
Gorgeous shot Scott!
interesting dress/shoe combo!
