Great dress and cute hair, nice looking neck!

Anonymous Ila said ... (6:15 AM) :

I love the colours on the dress, almost like when you zoom in really close to the tv screen or old colour photos. And the hair is so cute!!!

Lovely photo. She reminds me of someone from the Bloomsbury set.

Blogger Ant said ... (6:31 AM) :

Oh. This is just fanastic. She looks like she wants to be sitting under a tree.

Love ittt! So simple, yet so colorful. Reminds me of a certain Marc Jacobs pretty nylon tote. xx

Blogger SarahPeslar said ... (6:51 AM) :

The color of the dress along with the shoes go perfectly together. I love seeing a classic style!

I can't *really* be the only one who thinks this is the comeback of Mona Lisa, can I?

Blogger CW said ... (8:50 AM) :

Bad hairdo for her bone structure. The haircut makes her look like Dondi.

Blogger CW said ... (8:52 AM) :

At second look, the haircut makes her look more like Spock than Dondi.

Cute dress and shoes.

Anonymous Dana said ... (8:52 AM) :

That is my kind of girl! Comfy, elegant, no fuss she looks at home in her skin.

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:27 AM) :

I think Little Snoring pointed out the best feature...nice neck.

I see a perfectly contemporary embodiment of a Jean Auguste Ingres subject in photography form - the neck, shoulders, hair, hands and even the face.

Brilliant image, confident personal style!

Interesting and slightly weird--the combination of the large, androgynous head (which could be the model for a classical statue of a youth) with the more petite, feminine figure/dress. And then the proud cool gaze. Arresting.

Anonymous Cecylia said ... (9:50 AM) :

Great colours! I love her shoes too

Blogger FASHION SNAG said ... (9:52 AM) :

I love her face, her flats, and her dress. She is different in a good way. x

Blogger Sarah said ... (10:01 AM) :

This is so nice, as a wearable outfit and as an artistic composition. The graphic blacks of the bench, gate, and building echo the blacks in her dress, sandals, and hair. She looks cool, comfortable, and colorful in a simple dress, sandals, elegant hair, and no obvious makeup.

Let's hear it for the power of reserve, self-containment. Refreshing to see someone who is not broadcasting her style, instead, inhabiting it, fully.

The look--of both dress and hair--is simultaneously that of a child and of an old woman. Fascinating. Who says all time does not exist at once?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:30 AM) :

This makes me think of Florence from Florence and the Machine's hairdo, she wears it the same but red.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:54 AM) :

She's got a contented and natural look. I do like the way she's done her hair.

Blogger fashionfauxpas said ... (1:32 PM) :

Sorry, hate that dress. Looks like her grandmothers schmatta, house dress! Too dumpy.

Blogger Juan Manuel Trejo Sánchez said ... (1:54 PM) :

All I could say is the outfit does a great work in highlighting the feminine side here.

Omg, I have that dress! Bought it at Forever 21 last summer. Love it when that happens!

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:06 AM) :

its a marc jacobs dress

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:46 AM) :

This is a great "Summer in the inner city" shot. Her hair, dress and cool attitude remind me of last Summer in inner city Melbourne - refreshingly relaxed, colourful, with a little edge. Lovely.
LB.

Anonymous Ana said ... (1:43 AM) :

I love those full bangs with the thick braid. It looks medieval/hippie.

Blogger Anna said ... (2:11 AM) :

I remember that dress. Marc by Marc Jacobs. 2007/2008 sometime.

Anonymous nothingvanilla said ... (2:50 AM) :

Her personality does not seem to match the outfit - the contrast does not work for me or maybe I am just over thinking it!

Blogger gingkobiloba said ... (6:02 AM) :

GREAT portrait. Love her expression and her pose...And I love this look because she could rock it in any of the five boroughs and totally fit in! Chic without being snobby.

Anonymous Joanna Roman said ... (6:59 AM) :

Lovely, simple, cute and obviously not because of big money. New York women rocks (as usual!)

A CMYK dress! :)

Anonymous Cecylia said ... (9:23 AM) :

The girl in the first photo is adorable!

Blogger kiwi said ... (6:25 PM) :

Yes, the dress was Marc Jacobs two years ago, then Forever 21 knocked it off to perfection a year later, I know b/c I examined both closely and bought F21 version for $20. It never fails to elicit joyful comments. It's the perfect dress particularly here in Austin where it's 2000 degrees every day.

Blogger Kathleen said ... (10:35 PM) :

Love the outfit and shoes, The haircut doesn't do her justice. She has a lovely swan's neck and beautiful eyes, but her ears are set a bit too low for this cut. I think down to her shoulders would have been much more appropriate. Her bone structure is elegant and her hair thick enough to carry a longer and more flattering cut. Beautiful face!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:26 AM) :

FRANCES!!! i love you!!

Blogger ouique said ... (5:26 AM) :

Wow. She reminds me of my mum on photos in the year that I was born (1984), but then mixed with 2010. I love it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:15 AM) :

great dress

http://bulbizar.blogspot.com/

Blogger Alina said ... (9:45 AM) :

I love her expression and her shoes are cute, the background is great (matching with her expression, and that little chain below her is amazing in terms of detail!), but I feel like her dress is incredibly ordinary.

The bright color pops pretty nicely in front of the gray. :)

Blogger tempesta said ... (2:20 PM) :

It's all because of the chain. Great picture.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:16 AM) :

Who makes her sandals??

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:10 AM) :

wonderful pic! sooo summery. the dress the look..but the shoes...anyone knows where from??

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:40 AM) :

i love the dress.
and the way you make her and her dress appear even more graphic against the elements in the backdrop. a a beautiful neck too.
thanks for such a blog!

Blogger Ola said ... (8:26 AM) :

lovely dress

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:44 AM) :

I'm generally not matchy-matchy at all but I feel this dress and these shoes really don't look go together at all. Sorry, I don't care for this look.

Anonymous Rose said ... (11:19 AM) :

I love the sandals (marc Jacobs): i have the same ;-)

Blogger Christine Laurél said ... (4:38 PM) :

Quite an unattractive masculine face- a less blunt haircut might help. But overall, an interesting, somewhat provocative image. (It looks like a cross dresser-perhaps?)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:44 PM) :

I find her face a bit masculine for her hairstyle..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:44 PM) :

that dress is forever 21

Anonymous Gina said ... (10:00 AM) :

The brightly colored dress juxtaposed with this woman's masculine features is fabulous and creates such an androgynistic vision! I absolutely love that you captured the chain securing the bench as well, it contributes to the masculinity and power of the photograph.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:48 PM) :

I have this dress ^^

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:07 PM) :

I'm glad 2 other people noticed the chain on the bench... It totally changed the mood of the shot for me. It seems to match her expression. I get this feeling of "Relax, but not too much".

The picture seems to hold the contradiction well... a comfortable place to sit but locked in place with heavy chain and a relaxed pose and playful dress but very reserved, almost stern look on her face. You could write a whole character from this one shot... which is why I love this blog ;)

Blogger Julia said ... (9:47 PM) :

She's so cute!

Anonymous R said ... (4:57 AM) :

Lovely dress, compelling attitude...what a great photograph!

Anonymous cheri said ... (1:13 AM) :

I own that dress Forever 21 twenty bucks :) Makes me feel good to hear it's so liked.
