This kid is so cool! My favourite bit is the curl in her hair - she looks like a tough cookie, way too busy to brush her hair. Once upon a time, I think that was me ... but now, my red hair is straight :(

so great! a budding fashionista, perhaps?

Blogger Juli said ... (3:56 PM) :

What is it about red-headed children that is so absolutely adorable? Is it because true redheads are fairly rare? Or because, when you see a redhead child, you know there's very little chance that hair comes from a bottle?

In any case, she is adorable. Love the awkward foot.

Blogger deanna said ... (3:56 PM) :

wow. awesome little kid. i love the mix of pink and red. today you're really making me wish i'd been born with red hair.

Blogger A.E said ... (3:58 PM) :

I suppose this is a serious case of "start 'em young"? What a lovely-looking girl! It's great that she's not trying to look like an adult, she's just a seriously stylish child, I love her shoes-and the way she's arranged her feet- especially....oh, and that beautiful hair!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:01 PM) :

Very cute. Red hair seems to be the thing.

Anonymous Kar said ... (4:01 PM) :

That pattern reminds me of the 80's.

Grey on a redhead is old-fashioned but go bold with Fushia! That child by the way is going to be quite the looker when they grow up. Wonderful features.

Oh, she a future model or actress, isn't she ? I love the red hair and the attitude. Bravo ! It's quite amazing to see how natural she is even knowing that she's taken a picture of. Great shot ! (And i like the "clin d'oeil" behind her : "kidrobot". She's not a robot at all, she's full of life ! But the colors matche).

Love it! Such a cute little girl. Love her hair and the whole outfit. Good to see that there are no Disney logos or characters on her dress or anything like that. You can only stomache so much Hannah Montana.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:46 PM) :

Kids fashion is so great. They always look comfortable. I'm a piano teacher, so I get to work with kids a lot. Sometimes I try to dress like them a bit. Leggings are a big hit with little girls, but i refuse to wear crocs!!!

Anonymous Emily said ... (4:59 PM) :

What a cool kid! I love her red curls. Wish I was this well dressed at that age.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:01 PM) :

Right on! As a redhead, I had it pounded into me that I COULD NOT WEAR RED or anything remotely smacking of it. The red shoelaces, the pink sabre-tooth shaped wedges and her hair (not to mention the lips and her ruddy knees) are a great antidote to "Thou shall not wear red."

To me, the waist seems too low and the skirt too short. However, the fabric is fun, and the shoes are a kick, and the accessories are cute, attractive and age-appropriate. Quite a self-possessed young miss.

Adorable red hair and little necklace!

Blogger JJC said ... (6:25 PM) :

i love it when kids develop their own sense of style very early on. I try to help my step-daughter refine her choices (she's 5) but for the most part when left to her own devices she's a great outfit picker. I like this girl's attitude as well. really great. and the way her ankle is popped to the side, slightly unsure that she's cool with this. and in front of the kids store. I love this.

Blogger Álvaro said ... (6:26 PM) :

also, what is that pink thing on her laces, new kid trend? possibility...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:41 PM) :

This little girl is amazing. I wish my mom would have bought me cool outfits like that when I was her age!!
It also reminds me of the pictures of kids you got in your book; those photos were my favorites.
And like you said, "Some people are just born with it"!
Fabulous, so glad you got her photo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:10 PM) :

i love gingers. this girls is super cute

Anonymous Audrey said ... (7:15 PM) :

I think the reason I have no interest in seeing photos of kids on this blog is because what she's wearing is not an expression of her taste/personality/style; it's an expression of her parents' taste.

Anonymous Ruci said ... (7:22 PM) :

she's outside kidrobot-i love that place! the color of her romper and the store window match well.

Blogger BlumeBloom said ... (7:34 PM) :

Fingers crossed, that my daughter will get the red hair...

Anonymous Helen said ... (7:39 PM) :

She is gorgeous and I love the confident way she looks straight down the camera and yet there is that little twist to the foot and the fingers lightly curled that stop her from being too forward. let's hope she retains those qualities as she grows up. a beautiful study, thank you.

Blogger Hautezone said ... (7:40 PM) :

I saw when this picture was taken today, when I ran out for lunch. She was so chill! With a real NY nonchalance to her. Do it mama!

The Kidrobot positioning brings it home. Great shot, great attitude and a lovely photo of a girl, still being a kid.

Blogger Jo said ... (8:44 PM) :

Oh my gosh. Where do I get a kid that cute? Is she not just the most adorable thing? And her shoestrings match her hair! Awesome. And I have to, um, disagree with kids not having their own taste. I have tons of kiddies in my family, and they all have very distinct tastes in clothes.

Blogger Lily said ... (9:20 PM) :

Wow, looks like we got a natural model on our hands! Look at her pose!

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:18 AM) :

I love that you are publishing a mix of people these days, and that not all of them look quite perfect, yet every single one looks totally like themselves. And yes, this is how fantastically amazing children dress: slightly messy with a wonderful sense of play. I disagree with Audrey: I don't see parent here at all.

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:25 AM) :

When a girl is that age, most parents have very little say in what a kid will wear. This is her personal style, I have a feeling. I also see a little smile and love her lips matching her laces. Go girls!!!

Four redheads in a weeks Sarto! This is great! @notsurebut...redheads get a lot of negative coverage in Australia, where I'm from --even made fun of in TV commercials, general teasing and bullying and the whole "ginge" thing. Yuk. But when you see little girls like this you know that the teasing and bullying must come from a place of jealousy. RED POWER!

Kids should never be made to smile for a photograph, It's against their grain.
They should be defiant, or serious, or mistrustful, or they should be laughing a splitting-their sides laugh, but not smiling, unless caught unawares, and smiling to themselves.
You portrait the young, as you do the old : with truth.

¡Enhorabuena!

Tavi's success is incomparable!!!
and moreover she's growing big and popular...her journey is all set from cuteness to hotness....:-)

Anonymous Doncella said ... (10:01 PM) :

I love how her face says confidence but her feet say insecure...overall its an intriguing look & to have style at a young age shows self identity already unless the parents had helped her of course haha.

Awesome! Love her stare and big ol' sneakers. (Glad that she's not being taught crap about making her feet/self look delicate and minimized.) And love the age-appropriateness of her ensemble even more.

Blogger Samantha said ... (9:57 AM) :

Why is this kid so fashionable?
Its cute and all, but spending a lot on kid's clothes is kind of pointless. They grow out of them sooo fast. She's still adorable though.

Wait, how in the hell is she compared to Tavi on The Cut? Haha.

I read that in a few hundred years, there'll be no more (natural) redheads left on the planet - recessive gene, etc. Seeing photos like this make me think that we need to collect redheaded genetic material and freeze it for future use, not trying to save and store heritage seeds! It would be such a shame if this kind of beauty went extinct...
