simple elgeant and chic!

Anonymous Elaine said ... (9:40 AM) :

She is a beauty! Her stance, socks, scarf and belt make the photo. The graffiti in the background is also interesting.

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (9:43 AM) :

I have often read the main advantage of high heels is that they make your legs look longer, slimmer. What happens when you are wearing very uncomfortable heels, but then wear socks? Does it make your legs look short and stumpy, or is it just me? I would just take the socks off, and this would be a great outfit!

Blogger Le Raconteur said ... (9:47 AM) :

Wow. What a beautiful girl. There's not link to "Home" from your twitter posts. I know its a minor thing, but when I click on one of your twitter links to your pics, I usually wind up wanting to browse the rest of the blog posts.

Lovely!

Blogger Nadine2point0 said ... (9:57 AM) :

I absolutely love this look - I am thrilled that "pretty" is everywhere these days! The scarf on the bag is a great touch but I'm not convinced that any pair of legs could get away with socks and pumps.

Blogger Paula said ... (9:59 AM) :

This how I want to dress as an adult. She's lovely.

Blogger Sara Lee Bentley said ... (10:01 AM) :

Blogger Christy said ... (10:21 AM) :

Wow! This look would normally make me cringe (the whole grown woman in little girls clothes thing). But she pulls it off. Maybe it's her hair, or the sophisticated bag and shoes? Fashion experts: what is it? I would pair this look with a different dress for myself...something more form-fitting. But this looks great on her.

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:23 AM) :

Love the way the colours of her clothes are the same as those on the wall behind her!

Anonymous christina said ... (10:40 AM) :

really great (love the socks) but isn't it to cold for that outfit in berlin right now? :)

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:41 AM) :

I love this photo, especially the background. She wears the girly combination very well. Socks in shoes/high heels can look very charming, actually. I would wear the socks a bit higher or choose a different type of texture (something like Garance did on one of the fantastic Paris-pictures last month). But it works for her!
Scarf on bag is also amazing, lovely. It's a real trend I think, I immediately remember the lovely lady in hijab whom you shot in Melbourne...

Blogger MeganRose said ... (11:07 AM) :

I dont usually like the socks/pumps combo, but it looks lovely with her outfit, I ABSOLUTELY ADORE the dress and red lipstick, somehow she looks very whimsical in such a simple dress!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:16 AM) :

Composition señor Schuman!!!! You're becoming a master at this thing Scott, congratulations, this picture should go on the second installment of the book...

Anonymous Andrea Desde el Trópico. said ... (11:27 AM) :

I like the touch of color in lips and scarf! And love the shoes!

Anonymous Rebecca said ... (12:21 PM) :

Love the contrast! This outfit makes me think of spring.

Any tips for pulling off heels and socks? It sure looks great here!

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:23 PM) :

Jolie mais poilue non ?

Anonymous MiA said ... (12:25 PM) :

What a beautiful picture! Love he red lipstick with the light blue dress!! So cute name too!

http://miamarionette.blogspot.com/

Blogger Eryl said ... (12:35 PM) :

No doubt without the socks her legs would look longer and slimmer, but with the socks she looks so much more interesting, and she hardly needs to take advantage of every available beauty trick.

The background is stupendous. I want that wall!

Blogger Kristina said ... (12:37 PM) :

To address Christy's comment regarding why this works on a lady of this age, I would say it is not merely a slightly mature aesthetic to the look, it is her look, meaning her gaze! look at those eyes... The dress may say Lolita, but the eyes tell a different story.

And red lipstick on a beautiful pout doesn't hurt either.

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:37 PM) :

love, love, love the socks and the scarf on her bag!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:42 PM) :

That's adorable. She looks like a hip Dorothy Gale. I tie scarves on my purses like that all the time - glad to see someone else doing it. It's a very nice way to add a little color.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:49 PM) :

I love the picture, set against the graffiti on the wall behind, with the bubble letters. Not sure about the outfit, seems vintage to me. I like the touches of black throughout though.

Anonymous the dapper dane said ... (12:55 PM) :

This is why Berlin is so interesting. It combines elements from fashion and history and freestyles it into something that is engaging, naive and always experimental.

Blogger Claire said ... (12:55 PM) :

heels and socks confuses me--don't you have to get your shoes in a slightly bigger size to make that comfortable? Or is comfort not an issue? :)

Anonymous penny232 said ... (12:58 PM) :

Another Alice in Wonderland influence!

Blogger seditionaire said ... (1:40 PM) :

What a great shot! Luv the combo of the scarf and the graffiti in the background... Not to mention the subject!!You wouldn't by any chance know the name of this beautiful young lady? Is it Aline (or Misi)... beacuse if it is, she's an old childhood friend... would luv to know!

Thanks!!

Blogger Leah G. said ... (2:33 PM) :

Very cute, almost juvenile. I think it's the socks that make it so.
PS~ I love to see the graff in the back! It always makes for the best background! You can almost tell what city you are in by the writing on the walls.

I absolutely love the graffiti in the background! You can't go wrong with contrasting dirty city scenery with a beautiful girl... in my opinion!

Anonymous Emily McGuire said ... (11:05 PM) :

I think socks and heels are a great ressurection from past fashion, particularly the 1950s. Visible socks with dainty shoes is also a style associated with childrenswear and youth; so I think worn correctly, they can look so chic.

I love how the flecks of blue in the scarf are brought out by the colour of her dress and socks and hairtie on her wrist. Attention to nuances is true style I think.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:29 AM) :

All so pretty in detail, collar, waistband, scarf. But the sloppy hair just spoils it all.

Anonymous Joanna Roman said ... (8:15 AM) :

I love the way she looks! Moreover, that obviously it is a sample of how to use trends / look up-to date and be chic without having outfits for zylion Euro...

Blogger Kazuki Yamada said ... (8:43 AM) :

Kawaii!!

Blogger Barbara von Enger said ... (8:46 AM) :

Actually, the outfit with socks is not confusing at all. Many of you are missing the details here. I see the outfit as a sort of dressing for the artist, ready to be captured, hence the photograoh being posted here, hence having caught the eye of the photographer.

Blogger . said ... (1:57 PM) :

lovely :)

Anonymous Victor said ... (4:19 PM) :

Nice girl. Sweet, lovely.

But the socks are a pain in my eyes.

i like it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:31 PM) :

The little socks with her heels, as well as the scarf draped from her bag, is what makes this so sweet. I want to have tea with her!

There is a sense of excitement in this photo:

Graffiti created by males.

Beautiful young woman standing in front of their work.

It's almost like a 2 hour movie seeminly frozen in time.

Very nice.

Blogger Kathleen said ... (10:26 AM) :

She is beautiful. Both she and her outfit remind me of Christina Amphlett of the Divinyls. The little girl gone punk look. Her look is extreme "80's feminine punk" but like Snowflake, she reins it back in with the lovely hair and makeup. I love it!

The Divinyls~

Blogger banglesshouldjangle said ... (9:13 AM) :

I'm a little disconserted by the socks, but I don't mean in a conservative way! I think the whimsical feeling can be projected without heels-with-socks and those too-often-repeated inward-pointing toes.. She's very lovely and the dress is adorable. It reminds me of Scott's writing in the book of how he often/sometimes(?) doesn't like everything about the subject's look, but certain elements of it are striking.
