They are so adorable. Love her huge pants and huge smile. Japanese girls are often so modest with their smiles, don't show teeth. I think it's a culural thing. Matching shoes too! Cute!

Adorable! I love her look from head to toe and her smile is A++ !

The man's tee is too cute. My husband has a similar one, that we found on thrift store adventure when we visited Orlando, Fl (the town itself is not that interesting to me, but the thrift stores are GREAT!)

Anonymous Kazuko said ... (10:26 AM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:40 AM) :

i dunno, they have lean bodies which would look much better in tighter or more fitted clothing. there wide cheekbones and sharp eyes scream for sharper lines in their clothing. finally the hue of their clothing jars with their skin tone. fail

Anonymous proletarian Great Gatsby said ... (10:40 AM) :

I agree:they reflect hapiness and complemantary styles.
The best:her smile.

Blogger amy said ... (12:59 PM) :

Wow! Their pants make me think of the '90s-- not in a bad way. Pleated pants are a tricky thing to pull off, but she looks fab!

Blogger Melissa~ said ... (1:05 PM) :

One of the things that keep my atention of japanese people is the fact that they get married a lot. very young too. They really live they love, and it's a special kind of love, more old school in some way, much more respectfull.
This picture is amazing scott, her smile, his sprecion, and the outfit of both, that cute little prada clutch , her gorgeous necklace.
The picture has a great outfit, and a great "story" behind.

I'm so happy that you're in japan!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:08 PM) :

Adorable couple! Adorable smiles! People in Asia are much more poised, so it's rare and wonderful to see such radiant smiles on their faces.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:25 PM) :

I do not agree that they are unique, stylish, or fashionable. I agree they look very happy... but a tiger T-shirt with parachute pants showcased as exceptional style? Are our standards that low?

Anonymous The Photodiarist said ... (1:35 PM) :

Her pants are awesome!! Love that super baggy look.

Blogger Misha Lulu said ... (1:51 PM) :

HER PANTS ARE FAB!

JAY LOVE JAPAN
RIP J. DILLA

Anonymous sanmiguelense said ... (2:28 PM) :

Her pants are an inspiration! Big clothes on small people look cool and are the short people's revenge/backlash against the tall-centric fashion world! Rise up and get large!

Blogger Mademoiselle C. said ... (2:32 PM) :

Great great great!

Blogger SabinePsynopsis said ... (2:43 PM) :

Hello Dasein!

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:56 PM) :

They're adorable! She has the cutest smile - I want to be friends with them!!

Blogger anthony said ... (3:19 PM) :

Her swimsuit-style top is fabulously sexy and her trousers are smashing. Cute shoes for both but his clothes suggest that she ought to dress him!

Anonymous princess glee said ... (3:21 PM) :

"She's cute and look at the smile on her," my father-in-law says from over my shoulder.

Ahh, big roomy pants, comfy shoes and either didn't have to sacrifice style.

Blogger CW said ... (3:28 PM) :

They must have the same size feet because they have the same shoes!

Great casual style on her. Camo, otoh, is best worn by those whose jobs require it.

Blogger lintmag said ... (3:44 PM) :

supercute couple! i like their matching sneakers and her pants are fabulous.

Happiness.... is a pair of supersize pants! Bliss!

Anonymous men's t-shirts said ... (4:43 PM) :

Anonymous mabelmabel said ... (5:01 PM) :

It's fun to see joy, wherever it is.

These two embody joy in dressing, joy in being photographed and--I'd like to think--joy in each other.

Her huge pants are wonderfully sensual, and far from the cliche sensuality sold by Fashion.

Love your eye, Scott.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:11 PM) :

I love how they are not afraid of volume with their outftits. Us westerners might opt for something more slimming.. but the oomph in this outfit is stunning.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:16 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:20 AM) :

She could be wearing a potato sack and look like a million bucks because of that smile -- wait, she IS wearing kind of a potato sack... No matter what these kids (and kimono wearing men) are wearing, they look comfortable, rather than affected, in their au courant clothes -- that's the message I'm getting from looking at Scott's photos from Japan.

Blogger JC said ... (2:24 AM) :

Central Asians like Chinese, Japanese and Koreans really dresses well. They do it both on Bohemian and Avant Garde ways.

Thanks for posting this photo

What a great picture! Adorable couple!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:40 AM) :

too cute: anyone would be happy to know them.

But why o why moan about how they need slinky fitted clothes.

Of course they'd look great in something more fitted, anyone can see that. Baggy clothing is not just for the overweight! But it needs to be when they should choose to wear it, in the mean time ease up, let them have a day or week or year off and decide their own fate.

Anonymous Joanna Roman said ... (8:13 AM) :

What an adorable couple! They just match each other like hand and glove :-)
I just have a feeling that their style in wardrobe is only one of many aspects of their compatibility.
BTW: they both look great!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:26 AM) :

The peolpe from your japaneese shots seem to be from an other planet. I keep watching the pictures. All of them are SO different from all I see here in Italy. Thanks a lot for the book, it's so inspiring! Hope you'll make an other one including the japaneese theme.

Blogger Elizabeth said ... (8:58 AM) :

They look happy and beautiful. It makes me smile just looking at them. From a personal fashion standpoint, the guy's outfit isn't my cup of tea, but it's impossible to judge just their clothes when the subject of the photo is...them! Clearly!

Anonymous said: " there wide cheekbones and sharp eyes scream for sharper lines in their clothing. finally the hue of their clothing jars with their skin tone. fail"

Hidden racism o_o I have a round face and eyes...so I have to wear only clothing with a soft silhouette? Fashion isn't about that! You = fail

Anonymous Bleu Clothing said ... (4:58 PM) :

Amazing. This couple is adorable. They both look awesome!

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:25 PM) :

Thanks Scott, this just made my day. I don't know whether this is the much more stylish Japanese version of dressing alike or if they are just so close as a couple that the small differences in their sartorial choices are what is setting them apart!

Blogger alexandra said ... (4:57 AM) :

i liked the consequence of the guy's male outfit: tiger blouse nad combat pants in opposition to his wife feminin, a bit alladin girl style. and someting in common: smiles and sneakers - like saying : we are from one world:-) positive pic. thanks

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:01 AM) :

they look like the absolute nicest people on earth.

Blogger Kathleen said ... (11:10 PM) :
