Majorca, Vintage Photo Contest
I don´t know her, I just now that this picture has taken in my favourite hotel in Majorca, the Formentor. It was first opened in 1929, and about five years later this pic was taken.
I find it most inspiring, not only because of her outfit, but because of the shape her body draws against the background. Like you´ve showed us in your shots, most of the times it´s not about the clothes, but of the attitude, and I think this is a clear example of it.
Best regards,

very chanel style
this is a beautiful photograph. a Chanel moment!
Hi, the Formentor Hotel is placed in Mallorca, not Majorca. It is a beautiful island in Spain. http://www.barcelo.com/BarceloHotels/es-ES/Hotels/Spain/Majorca/Formentor/Home
Incredibly textural. imparts dimension wonderfully. (does that make sense in the context of photography?).
Gorgeous. My favourite of the oldies so far. I find that the picture has an air of timeless elegance. One could put on those clothes today and be stylish anywhere. Once again, a beautiful short cut on a lady. Just wonderful.
I love this image! She would look perfectly in style if she were walking the streets today.

Great great picture in Mallorca!!! Regards from Spain
Wow! Look at the bokeh in that photo. Incredible light too.
The outfit is just perfect for Mallorca.
effortless style we all dream to have
This just keeps getting better and better!
I hope you do not feel obligated to do anything comprehensive with the photos you have accumulated. But I do hope you are up to something.
Sorting them into a light book with original comments? - like a small adventure through time and space; or placing pictures in parallel with contemporary allusions? Ah, the possibilities.
I am excited so many people have come along with your invitation!
I am hungry for further posts.
i would say a photo by jh lartigue.
Lovely picture!

What an incredible shot! I really love the composition. The wicker chair in the foreground, the way the plants in the mid ground dissolve to nothing...Its like a mix between photography and painting. Very beautiful. Thanks, Maria!
I´ve just read that the hotel is where Grace Kelly spent her honey moon! Jane Birkin, Audrey Hepburn, Charles Chaplin, Gary Cooper... and many more also went there for their holidays!
She was a queen, after all.
STUNNING! Very Coco Chanel and yet the lady has created a feel all her own.
Incredibly current and timeless! It could be worn today without people thinking weird.
Stunning. Cannot be duplicated.
So elegant and classy! This picture encharmed my.
Very interesting style, indeed.
I think this maybe the coolest photo I have ever seen. And if it doesn't prove once and for all that real style is timeless then I don't know what will!
Increiblemente elegante y mediterránea.
Besos desde Estella.
Great pic!! lOVE IT!
But it's MALLORCA, not majorca PLEASEEEEEE!!
;)
It is eyebrow-raising to preface a photo introduction with "I don't know her" and then sign it with the subject's name.
Those are amazing pants I love the way they flow. And her beret completes it!

The outfit is great. Perfect for summer in 2010!

she look pretty:)
great outfit:)
sarii.
I think this is a wonderful photo and I agree I would love to have these items in my wardrobe, but am I the only one for whom the name "Olive oil" came to mind? You know Popeye's girlfriend. No disrespect intended, but she has most of her features, even her stance.
Wow. This photo is stunning. I think this is the perfect summer uniform. Stripes on top, white on bottom, splashes of color or details (like the little polka dots and beret). Beautiful.

For years I searched for a wide leg white pant JUST LIKE THESE, sits high on the waist, drops to a lovely drape down the leg. This whole outfit is so elegant, timeless yet so NOW. We can't find a pant made out of that rayon they used back then, even her polka dot hankie just gives it her personality. If it was I in this outfit, I'd wear it with clean white converse Chuck Taylors or Jack Purcells but even her perfect white oxfords work so well.
God how I love this shot--very Armani-esque as well as Chanel. That little polka dot scarf is such a perfect touch. Love, love, love.
Lovely pic, she was so glamourous...
Exquisite
This is the real essence of being chic...
Absolutely, and this is a spectacular photo, and piece of history - fashion/arts. I love your contest, Scott!
love the photo and agree with you about attitude being paramount!
esme noir (http://sportshopper.tumblr.com)
chic chick.
an essence of Lillian Bassman in the attitude, feminity and soft focus of the photo. love it.
Picture - 1930s... style - as relevant as ever..
oh i love love this style - wish I was long and lean so I could wear something like this with such elegance!!
gorgeous timeless silhouette....
Forget vintage, it needs a new category -just: best photo. I would be thrilled to go out wearing that right now...
This photo has a Coco Chanel quality to it -- timeless!

The power on the 'chief.
Brilliant.
It looks like an old Coco Chanel picture, really stylish
Great picture ! Everything is perfect : the outfit, the composition, the use of the depth-of-field...
It's also interesting to see how body shapes have changed...
Between the beret and that little pocket square she is so very "ever so!"
The attitude, definately.
I Just love the body language, the beret and flappers. There is some amateur vibe in the gesture. Love whites though can't maintain that well.
I couldn't love those slacks any more than I do. Just gorgeous. The whole photograph is wonderful -the location, the outfit, the composition. Other than her looking slightly irritated, but, hey I look irritated in a lot a photos.........
This is so Chanel! Comfort and simplicity, which were registered trademark of Coco, is fully present in this outfit. I Lloved it!
this is absolutely stunning. words can't express.
So modern!
wonderful outfit!!
this one has to be the winner. I'd be devastated if it weren't.
Definitive chic
MALLORCA NOT MAJORCA
