The Hamptons, Italian Vogue Pelle
I shot this story for Italian Vogue Pelle last August. As you know, magazine editorial budgets are extremely low, especially in this economy. Instead of packing up for an exotic location, I shot this at the hotel where I spent Summer vacation with my kids.
We didn't officially ask permission to shoot there, so we quietly ran around the grounds with a hair stylist, makeup person, fashion stylist, tech person and four or five assistants.... you know, a typical vacation day.

Vibrant and beautiful!
I love these shots, makes me wish for summer already. The ease of dressing in summer vs. the layering and boots and gloves all winter long. I love the sandals, the jeans with the applique. I don't see any pastels here at all.
Her hair is so gorgeous!
makes me want to go on vacation... now! beautiful images...
Really gorgeous fashion photography Scott. Thanks for sharing it. I love your blog. There is a clear distinction between your personal work and paid editorial. I would hate to see the best fashion blogs losing integrity as they become increasingly influencial. You're very inspiring for me.
wonderfull!
breathtaking... absolutely unreal.
i am inspired.

remember I shot this months ago and nothing has changed on this blog since. The only way shooting more editorial will change the blog is that it will make me a better more diverse photographer.
beautiful shoot Scott. I love love love hearing the stories behind what made the images... things you never hear in magazines. Its like the 'month in fashion' video of garance and yourself we all loved so much... gives as an insider look
ur a genius, i love it
the third photo is wonderful...

Love the story behind the shoot! I'm surprised and tickled you had to sneak around the hotel - it reminds me of when I had to take photos of design stores for a class assignment and was forced to use all the sleuthiness I learned from watching old episodes of the pink panther to avoid getting caught photographing the stores' "not to be photographed" displays/vignettes. Unlike your lovely photos, the pressure of being discreet combined with my sadly lacking photography skills resulted in a rather poor production ;)
Seems like both you and Garance are definitely getting some great exposure of late with the mags etc, greatness.
Am so happy for the success you have had over the last two years, it is always wonderful to watch art grow.
this place looks so serene and beautiful. love the playful/whimsical styling.

Sometimes creativity flows more freely whe one is 'in a pinch'... Wonderful shots!
Everyone will want their summers to be just like this. Fantastic.
You needed FIVE assistants for this shoot?

yankee ingenuity ! That's being creative in the best way!
Great shoot, sometimes the most frantic and unplanned shoots are the best - love it!
Her flowery jeans are gorgeous!
Beautiful pictures, especially the one of the model sitting having breakfast. The colors are striking.

love the saturated colours mixed amongst the starker ones all in the lilting late afternoon sun. so pretty!
Jaja! working in the dark, like if you were stealing. that gave to the shoot more flavour (even more).
Luck is italian vogue, so now one is going to say "hey, It's that my board?" "hey, is that my hotel?"
Kisses scott!
How sneaky :) Very beautiful and vibrant photos. I like it. A lot.
Awesome pics!

Scott, these are gorgeous, I love the photography and the promise of summer that comes along with it. Moreover, I adore fishing;-)
Excellent shots!!!
PLEASE Scott, give us the adress, i want to go there with my kids
I love your work...you are crazy...but incredible
Great light all throughout. Very nice work: the series has a good number of fairly original shots. I find the American flag on this small building almost hilarious! It is not a government building, is it?

i love this spread. and i love hearing about how you guys did it on the DL. i feel as though it adds to the vibe of the whole thing.
Vogue Gone Rogue
It sounds so funny how you had to sneak about, I can picture it now! Makes me view the photos in a different light - so exciting!
Looks like a fantastic place to holiday and photos are beautiful.
I think i am in love with these photographs more because of the story behind them. I particularly love the shot of your neighbours board and accessories. BRILLIANT...
exactly what i love about photography... I just wish i could hear the story of every photo shoot that i admired or even just saw.
thanks again!
The session is so great! It is fresh & live & joyful and looks so AWESOMY REAL = no superduper session mess and all the stuff which pretend to be something else they are (you know what I mean, a model pretending to be a traveller in a Amazon jungle or a Nomad on Sahara... hahahaa...)
j'adore les mocassins des premieres photos, la couleur est si belle pour un printemps !
Bisous, bisous, Tres belles photos,

Great color play, the unexpected orange topsiders, cool! If you ever need another neat location to shoot - visit Manteo, NC. www.beachroadtomanteo.com for more info.
love the photo of the bungalow and the flag.
can't wait for summer.
The colours in these shots are beautiful!
Great story, location and, of course, photographs! Southwestern style is not in fashion now but we have an abundance of color and flavor in Santa Fe, New Mexico if you need it! Would love to see you here!

anybody have an idea what hotel that is?
your photographs are thrillingly beautiful ... the colors, the composition, the "feel", the texture. they're inspiring and breathtaking at the same time. i love this blog!!!!
How brilliant!!
These are quite beautiful shots.

Beautiful! Makes me yearn for summer!
To me these photos perfectly embody the essence of summer in New England... Im guessing they were shot at the Ocean Dunes in Amagansett or Surf Lodge in Montauk...
It respires calm and peace like really vacation. You get it.
Great pictures!

How do you conceal a crew of 8-9 people on an unsecured location?? Well done!
I love these...

I love your work in all its facets. As it evolves--and this blog evolves--I hope you will continue to feature here the nameless, non-professional fashionistas that drew us to here to begin with.
good stuff. guerilla photography is the only way to go.
i've been kicked off a few premises doing this. so exhilirating. :)
I enjoyed this spread very much...what a great place to vacation!
I love your description of the process of shooting these! It's so refreshing to hear that at least some people are not hell bent on getting everyone's permission for every move they make. The photos turned out wonderfully because of it.
Her orange boat shoes are awesome!!

Great set a shots
Haha this sound slike a very fun and exciting shoot and a very eventful and non-boring vacation!
I wonder what a tech person does on a shoot like this?
Fantastic spread!
I love this set of photos. They are so beautiful.
It is very often with little budget that the effect is GREAT.
I LOVE this shoot, very simple and natural, something we don't see nowadays..
love this editorial
Scott, you are an amazing photographer, you really are. Thanks so much for sharing your work.
But why photograph a bulles bag that isn't even available anymore?
Your shots are so lovely! This magazine stuck paydirt when they hired you. I find it hard to believe they are willing to spend so little to promote the idea that WE should spend big bucks on the clothes they present!
These are beautiful photos first of all, and a beautiful area. I love the dress in the last photo, and the bike and scene and justoverall I love the first picture too.
www.emidoodlesfashion.blogspot.com
beautiful! and i love the sneaky factor
This is amazing. I love that even in a shoot for a magazine as swanky as Italian Vogue, you and your crew were running around like a bunch of kids trespassing on their neighbor's property, looking for a baseball they'd knocked over the fence by accident.
Anyway, lovely photos. I think knowing the background story behind the shoot makes them even more special.
So lovely. I want to be there. The light and not-quite sherbet, not quite bright colours are mesmerising.
Perfect, the look was very good
look to : visuday.blgospot

fabulous work!
Great job on your stealthy fashion shoot. Love it!
Good job, and Great Pictures!
wonderful pictures. Where can I get these orange topsiders. They are amazing!!!
such beautiful shoots!!!
I wish my style was just like this. unfortunately, i don't have the time to put into having a distinct style. maybe after university. bah
my earlier comment was that there is a clear distinction between your personal work and your editorial work - but I wasn't referring to the quality or relevence. You have a great eye. So may others focus mainly on trends. Your images have enduring relevence and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your editorial and other projects. I loved the little film you posted by Garance at the end of the fashion shows. I know that joy of working with a creative partner. I hope to show you what I'm working on too one day!
Absolutely stunning!!!
the colour saturation if fabulous. thanks for sharing these, they are lovely.
wow your photography is amazing! great use of natural light and wind!
Wow, pretty girl. I also like that it feels kinda' at home instead of some overly modern interior decor.
totally lovely whoever did the styling has done a great work.I LOVED IT

can't get into adolescent models, but the natural elements are thoughtfully composed.
That's a great story and your photos are, of course, incredible.
The shot with the LV bag is my favourite. VERY subtle, makes it seem very natural. One of your best!
I'm one of many fans of your blog - inspiring work as usual!
wow Scott thanks for sharing the background of this shoot, it sounded exciting that you have to sneak around and take photos! I'm sure your team had fun as well. More great adventures and great photo shoots for you Sartorialist!
