Floppy Hat with a Tailored Coat, Vintage Photo Contest

The lady on the right looks like something out of a Yohji fashion show.

SEEING THEZE VINTAGE PHOTOZ BRINGZ ME BACK TO THE ESSENCE WHEN IT WAZ ABOUT BEING WELL PUT TOGETHER, INSTEAD OF BEING TRENDY. NOW A DAYZZ PEOPLE ARE GETTING LOST INTO THE GUCCI BELT OR THE LATEST ORAGAMI OR SPROUS LOUIS VUITTON BAG UNTIL THEY FORGET WHAT TRUE STYLE IZ. NOT KNOCKING ANY LABEL WHOREZ OUT THERE BECAUZE I'M KNOWN FOR IT MYSELF. BUT IN THE DAYZ OF YESTERYEAR IT WAZ ABOUT HAVING CLASS AND DIGNITY. I APPRECIATE THEZE PHOTOZ SCOTT, KEEP THEM COMING

Style makes an event of the moment, makes every day an occasion--which every day is, by the way. Sometimes it takes style to remind me of this.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:20 PM) :

The bee-hive hair style is reminiscent of my youth. What a handsome trio.

Blogger lintmag said ... (9:38 PM) :

Both of these ladies could easily have come off of a recent runway! Love the buttons on that jacket and the whole shape of the other woman's beehive and tunic-y dress or coat.

Blogger Sweets and Hearts said ... (9:53 PM) :

i love this so much! especially the woman on the left--her beehive is pretty epic!

To 4:27, Milt-fresh_best-dressed:

It's easy to memorialize the past out of history, as if people were less interested in fads, but in expressing some more pure essence of inner style. And mythologizing the past, and foolish.

These figures are not totems of some more pure expression of identity and personality. Their clothes are as much about outward influence, pressure, fades, and consumerism, as they are about inward expression.

As we look on these images, it's too easy to make them into symbols of personal expression, rather products of histories larger than themselves.

She also looks very similar to the girl in your recent post 'On the Street.....Abstract Inspiration, Milano'.

This photo is actually of my parents & my Aunt...

My Mother, Marie-Louise Spano, is the one with the hat. My Aunt, Susan Spano, is the one with the Beehive & the man in the middle is my Father, Charles Garone...

This photo was taken in 1962 in NYC. Old photos of my parents, such as this one, were very influential & inspired me to persue a career in the fashion industry. I always had the coolest parents in grade-school,etc & aside from style, they are also the most important people in my life.

While they are much older now, my Mother's gentle sexy way, is still going strong...its amazing how while our faces & bodies change, our soles still sparkle at any age.

On a side note: You can't see it in this blurry photo, but my Mother & Aunt Susan were both pros with liquid eyeliner! ;)

my hair doens't fit a hat

Anonymous Riima said ... (2:59 AM) :

Such photos are the treasure. They are the only windows that take us back to classic fashion. Adore the hair do and the coat. Hat is a little drab for me.

Blogger Alexandra said ... (6:16 PM) :

I love the juxtaposition of the floppy hat with the jacket, but what I love most is the lady in white's coiffed hair...why can't this still be in style today?

They just don't make clothes like they used to, sigh.
