Comments on "On the Street.....The Swagger, Milano"
yeah, of course!
that looks really dandy. =)
A secret contemplative stroller :)
Beautiful ascot, nice framing (blond women on the left, with the lighter images of the auto, trees and building on the right), but dislike the cigarette. His ascot matches his beard! And it's amusing seeing his gloves under his arm. I like how he has a few fingers in his pocket.
Leather gloves in the hankie pocket look nicely insouciant!
Mr. WIlliam Gilchrist, I presume? I remembered seeing him on the Dunhill video with Jude Law and noted him as a stylish gent. Then I saw him on this blog from time to time, and in a sunspel email. It's cool to be able to put a name to the gentleman, I would like to see his different costumes. One thing though: I only ever see him in a navy double breasted jacket with a silk scarf underneath! More please, Mr Gilchrist!
I love his expression, I love the scarf that brings out the whole feel...
I agree with you!
I would love to know what is on his mind...great shot!
I definitely have a leaning towards your images of the older set.
There is something about seeing a life well lived that gets me every time...
Mysterious and enigmatic .
I like this shot .
Can't go wrong with that scarf ;)
This man is like a elegant version of Hank Moody (Californication)
kiss
wat a cool coat!
Love the whole look..even the cigarette despite not being a fan of smoking!!
That is one smart and stylish suit...love the scarf accent.
yes, and he has it!
love the scarf
so bad boy, dangerous man:)

Nice touch with the gloves in the chest pocket. I wonder which company makes that short jacket which will look great on my son (I'm now too large for it to work on me). I do not like the muffler, but that is a matter of taste. OTOH, it may look better than whatever the gent has underneath.
Cigarette is not style accessories.
Especially if it comes with great clothes like his. Really would like to have a closer look at his silk scarf...
I think it's interesting that, for me, the older women and gentlemen seem to have the greatest sense of style, and/or they seem most comfortable in the clothes they're wearing. Perhaps with time comes a better sense of who and what you are, and who/what you aren't. The older genre just seem to have a much more natural flow to their style and it comes through beautifully.
A cross between Bob Geldof and my husband.
He exudes style. I love the ascot and the leather gloves in the pocket!
http://coquettishfacade.blogspot.com
Definitely. Such casual, elegant style. The gloves in the pocket are a nice natural touch.
Though I don't feel this man is approachable by any means I love his style. The patterned scarf, the gloves in the breast pocket, the rumpled double breasted jacket, the cigarette — so easy, so incredibly cool.
He could be my grandfather, but still: I fell in love.
he's so elegant!
VERY dapper.
I especially love the scarf, hm I wonder where he go it...
Hot, hot, hot!!!
I do so wish non-smokers would keep their comments to themselves! This is the way it works guys... quite a number of Europeans (including myself) and non-Europeans too, I'm sure, have an intense love/hate relationship with their smokes. We know it's bad - really bad - and we tell ourselves regularly that we will stop the insanity, yet we love our smokes. So live and let live, please!
Hummm...What is he thinking????
Nice shot
One of the best pictures ever!
In my opinion, style is actually not about clothing..although..good clothing helps! Style is about being somebody. Style is about people who have the courage to take a stand.
A man like this can wear almost anything and he'll still look great! It takes great observation skills as well as photography skills to capture this. Chapeau!
Everything can have a style!
xx,

confidence gives style. Definitely. it might be on the walk, or mannerisms or whatever but it's not always about the clothes.
In fact, I think true style has nothing to do with clothes.
Everything is perfect except that i would have ironed the jacket a bit more :D
oh...my....yes!
so much style in just one snapshot... brilliant!
best picture i've seen here for far. The Lancia on the right and the way he holds the cigarette...its got that x factor...
great work
That scarf is just amazing. The pattern and colour and texture are all perfect. And the gloves add just the right feel.
Awesome walk! I love it and I also love the scarf/bib thing he is wearing. You got him in action in a great shot. xo

body language makes the outfit!

Yes, a walk is definitely quite a portion of a style...and this man really has a swagger...
and to reply to Gon yes everything can have a style×D
http://misanthropicpulp.blogspot.com/
agree with CW-- love the gloves in the pocket.
you really captured a moment of him.
I´m still wondering what´s the best thing of his look...
Maybe the gloves? Or the daring contrast all-in-black with the scarf? As you say, the walk? That way of smoke while walking and thinking? The double buttonned?
Who cares?!
bravo
yes.
a walk.
can totally have style.

Lovely photo, altogether a brilliant look & loveliness, classic class.
For sure... an attitude and an ascot.

here comes the hot stepper!!

Love the gloves in his top pocket! He seems to have effortless style.
This image is worthy of an Impressionist brush, such as Édouard Manet. This man looks like Édouard Manet himself...
and I can tell by the way you walk that walk
Lovely. I think this is very elegant gentleman, too natural style
Completely agreed. I like the appearance of his swagger so much in the photograph because it is probably effortless. Poise cannot be forced.
That is a very cool look. As a guy just entering his 40s, it's nice to see middle-aged men wearing clothes that are both cool and age-appropriate.
very short crumpled DB jacket... interesting. i think you've shot him before ?
The walk is a part of the whole outfit.
Agreed.
I love the placement of his gloves...the walk says it all!!!
+8!3
Love the buttons on the DB blazer. Would love to get my hands on one of those..
The scarf looks good

A suit worn casually. That is a major achievement, I think, and usually done by Europeans or men in the fashion industry, although I suspect the latter spend a lot more time achieving insouciance.
If we average Americans can do it, the suit may yet come back into our daily wardrobe.
Wow, amazing jacket and scarf but that double-breasted vest is something else; where does one find such things?
Such a purposeful and well-edited look. He is perfect.
He looks like my ex husband. Same walk, same hairline, even the cigarette.
sometimes it's all about how a person holds himself. he looks amazing with or without the swagger. wow!

i agree! i've always admired a good walk or posture or stance.
"On a morning from a Bogart movie,
in a country where they turn back time,
you go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre contemplating a crime..."
Al Stewart, Year of the Cat
with thoughts, it's the real life with dark garment
I love men in ascots....it suggests confidence, which is attractive on every level.
Fierce
so european. amazing.
Such a stylish gentleman! italians do it better.
This is a welcome relief from all the overdone, anorexic, leather-clad 'fashionistas' on blogs like Jak & Jil.
I love this man, he is so sexy and self-assured. What a perfectly put together outfit. A bit rumpled, but depending upon the fabrics, this cannot be helped. Love the scarf! And yes, my favorite line, I'd follow him home!
Smart, sexy and polite!!
He reminds me of Nine's Guido for sure!
This is Cool!
Almost wish my husband starts smoking..and grow older
If there is one thing that keeps me smoking is the fact that it broadcasts far and wide my wishes to be disassociated with sportspeople.
Someone said the jacket should have been ironed... I couldn't think of doing anything worse to that artfully cut jacket which, inter alia, may have a linen component in its genetic makeup. If not, I call sprezzatura.
In these slovenly times of board shorts and flip-flops, and men hitting gyms to look like frogs, the gentleman is a genius. I can't fault it and I'm fiercely critical. Well done, Sir.
-Pietro
He has such a distant look in his eyes, he's not at all aware of himself as being cool, he's simply confident. This shot just proves that style is not limited to the young. Also, please can the non-smoking comments-Europeans smoke, get over it, and they don't have as many hang-ups as Americans about a variety of things. It's part of their charm.
fabulous!

Love the gloves in the breast pocket - I'm gonna try that one - beats having the bulk in the hip pockets!

Ciao William. Looking good.
Thats one William Gilchrist, London stylist extraordinaire who always nails a look.
Scot: you have such a fetish for the gloves in the pocket thing.
only in Italy....
Reminds me of Charles Baudelaire.
It's a cliche - but I must say the Italians always win it in the style stakes - as evidenced by this marvelous blog and in particular this gent. Rarely is their style overdone as it is in New York and London particularly. However saying that; the Sartorialist, get yourself down to Savile Row. It's an oldie but still a goodie when wishing to spy some styling fellows.
LOOKING Very chic and elegant. I wonder what's going through his mind? This how my future husband looks like.t's HIM...
I used your picture & the line from another post.

He's wonderful. I love the seeming nonchalance of his attire, yet he's so deep in thought. Brilliant.
Oh, very nice! I saw his more recent picture, Variation on a Theme. He really knows how to dress, this man. <3 And he looks a bit like my Drama teacher. But then again, my Drama teacher wears Spiderman and South Park ties and neon-colored socks ... all right then, maybe not such a strong resemblance.
