How Fun is HE! Love it.
Spotted the MUJI paper bag.. love everything from there..
Ok, I really like this...great hat, use of color and smile.
Love the warm earthy colours and the layering. Even the bag goes with it all well!

simpaticissimo....:)
Homie ain't playin'
Wow! There is a lot going on there. Great smile
I am always amazed at your eye. The way you find the most amazing people. I love his whole look. So much to look at!
It's the gold shoes that make it for me.
He's got a log going on. Obviously not afraid to experiment. I want that black bag.
the colours are just lovely! the whole picture, and his smile, makes you bear the winter a little bit longer.

He looks so happy and confortable in his own skin. I love that!!
Nice big man bag!
The male version of a bag lady I suppose. Very nice.
I love his mix of colours and proportions.

Awww, I used to live around the corner from there! Yes, that area is great for spotting people like this gentleman. :)
...what a beautiful and warm color palette... seams to be a 'Gentleman of Bacongo'

Heu...reux !!! Il est heureux ... great shot ! Sunny
What a delight! His colours, while he certainly didn't put them together with any definite idea in mind, are wonderful....... The green, tan, purple and plaids are delicious, and of course that smile is just the cherry on the top! AND he's just been to Muji, so he's right up my street. I LOVE him. What a happy way to start off 2010. Superb.
Wow, I recognize this exact spot on 6th Ave, it's on the corner of W 8th, is it not? I lived there for a year right there, and man, do I miss it, such interesting characters and great style roam the village.
i really, really like this- right down to his gold shoes!
I love this guy!
It is lovely to have you back. Hope you enjoyed your well deserved break. Happy New Year. Keep up the great work. Xxx
i love his expression and shoes and bag... actually i love it all!
There's something cheery and hopeful about this shot. I love it. Plus, I love his bag:)
oh a muji bag! nice! :D

wonderful- this picture put a huge smile on my face. love to meet this man.
He's sure weighted down in a lot of bags and accessories...
And yet his smile makes him look lighter than feathers!
You juts put a smile on my face:)))))) That's exactly what I need in these cold days.

"fashionably tasteful.have a bite"
seems like a man who is having so much fun in styling himself. although i don't really understand the overall combo, i have to admit i admire the crazy layering. so carefree!

His smile is totally his best accessory :-)
I want to be his friend.
This is great and he looks so comfortable with his style - he wears it well.
Wow that bag is the 100% stand out item.

He is super cool!!!
I don't think I've ever seen sucha happy man in my life! The kind of man who's company a person can enjoy!
How fun!!! Seeing him walk down the street should brighten anyone's day!!!
Love it!
Wow, small world! Scott, I first saw this gentleman at your SF book signing -- the bag is unmistakable. Then about a month later (again visiting my sister in SF) I saw him on the street in Pacific Heights neighborhood -- albeit the bag first caught my attention, then I realized why it seemed familiar. Now he is here in NYC! I love that he had to stop in at Muji.
Kelvin Malone, San Francisco's great sartorial mind!
Never mind his style, his huge smile is fantastic! He looks like such a fun character...
ah we used to have this fine man located in sf. hope he hasnøt relocated permanently.
Love the shoes. very eclectic!
ohoho. i love it! he's shining! this makes me want to go out and beam at the world! stunning picture. :))
Wow, love his smile and all the layering is genius. The pants rock! Great photo. Really shows personality. xoxo

LOVE the gold tipped shoes, the hat, and esp. his smile!
The bag, the shoes and the smile got me. He ooozes joy in this moment.
Nice to see such a warm, happy face! Beautiful colors and backdrop in that photo! Bravo!
Wow interesting, I like
Perfect color to compliment his skin tone and the season MIMISAYZSO!
Adorable, happy and great gold shoes - wonder what he's got in the bags...?
I enjoy this very much. He just exudes so much energy through his smile.
He is happy...
Makes me smile...
Dear Scott,
This man is a lot of life!!!!
I think me likeeee!!!
Love to you,
Melissa
Hey Calvin! I was wondering when The Sartorialist would find you. You look fantastic as usual. Regards from Indonesia. C&C
I'm fairly certain this guy used to live in San Francisco (maybe he still does?). I used to see him all over the city. Always smiling!
So wonderful! Beautiful photo, style and personality!
I love a man in gold shoes!
He's nasty!
:P
kiss
How cute can you be :)
I love his smile, and his scarf too... The whole color palette is so Dries...
Sometimes a smile is all you need to have the perfect look. :)
I swear this is that African guy that works at that shmancy Boutique in Hayse Valley in SF...
I know this fabulous man. He is Kelvin and he works in the most amazing boutique in San Francisco, M(odern)A(ppealing)C(clothing). He always brings a smile on my face and he's always dapper. We both have the same Dries gold brogues, but I desperately want that bag from Paris. Too bad it was the only one.
I'm lovin the bag and smile.
a great smile truly is the best accessory!
I love that he is so over the top with his accessories yet, loves simplicity- Muji. I wonder what his apartment looks like.
Shoes are great. Would like his pants a bit shorter to show off the cuff, shoes, and wide leg.
This guy got flavor!
This man's style is both fearless and playful. Not big on the gloves, but the plaid accents and the gold boots did it for me.
this man i awsome! omg :D
This is a man who is not afraid to twinkle his toes!
Not a thing out of place in this ensemble. The scarf is fantastic, although I would have gone for a gold pin for a metallic match to the shoes.
This man makes me happy. Great shot!
I want to feel that genuinely excited in the New Year..
love his look..
xxxo H
i think i might love this man! :P
I love the light and the colors!
Scott, you have no idea how much I missed you ! So glad you are back.......This gentleman is pure sunshine - just lovely.
Love it, the Muji bag suits him.
This whole image is wonderful, with the background as busy and colorful as the man. What did you say to him to make him giggle?

Potential style guide for Dr. Who?'s next incarnation. There is something of the eccentric time-traveller about him.
beingmanly.blogspot.com
I always love running into him from time to time, here on the streets of San Francisco. He is a free minded spirit, who always looks interesting (the good interesting).
I like eeeeeeeeverything about this man's style. Something maybe African about his dress and his free smile.
These images put a smile on my face.
Gold shoes! Great bag.
so charming, especially his shoes are gorgeous! (I wonder what are there in his Muji bag:)
I die for his bag! (peep the gold shoes:)
i saw this man yesterday, and thought he was perfect!
What a dazzling smile - so great to see a man who has fun with his clothes!
What a wonderful smile to begin this year. I love every detail of this picture.
The shoes! The smile! The mixing of color, prints, textures - he's got it goin' on!

ENFIN VOUS ETES LA MONSIEUR SARTORIALIST !!
WOWWWW !! THIS MY FAV !!
I love love love his choices !! And the detail : the golden shoes !
***********
I M ALWAYS SINCERE : ALL YOUR PHOTOS ARE MAGIKS !
THANK YOU !
======================================================
are those gold shoes?!
Oh my god. I think I just fell in love with everything about him :o
Absolutely amazing.
I LOVE MUJI!!!!
Peace
amazing shoes for a man. He certainly got his own style and seems comfortable with it.
Oh I love this guy! He's so expressive!
ahhh! I want to bottle that smile! :D
The color palette here is delightful. Muted, but it doesn't feel dull. That purple with that olive-ochre is marvelous. The crazy scrap scarf really pulls it all together and keeps the matchy-matchy hat and coat from feeling fussy. And those gold shoes! This outfit is full of surprises. :D
Wow! The first thing I noticed were the pants. I think it was Tomas Maier who said that he was now moving men's pants away from the body, after the last 6 years of skinnies! I love this man! He is perfection!
Energie
Just crazy, excellent !
He looks so full of joy and fun! It shows in his style too ... what a fun mix of colours, patterns and textures. I love the scarf!
Oh man, this guy just looks so happy, to say anything about his outfit would be cruel!
Great shot, love it.
OWO~~he take MUJI!!! how funny!!
Hey, you were near my office!
Sorry I missed you. Hopefully another day.
PS - I need that guy's bag, but I'd have it weighed down too heavy to carry.
great play of colours, patterns and textures. i love this!
That bag is wonderful by Jas M.B. !!
His pants--fantastic. His smile--even better.
Really bold and fun, though I'm confused by all the stuff in front - is that all scarf, or are there other things hanging there? I think a little less business would be better.
Funny he is clutching a Muji bag a store known for its minimalistic design, and he is working every last bit of his outfit.. Classic.
That guy works at M A C in San Francisco. He's the coolest!
What a fantastic picture! Smiling happy stylish warmth and beautiful colours!
Sooo great!
style? hmmmm......?
Kelvin is the best and cutest
wow :)
The gold shoes... so dope!
Great bag, too.
I would love him to be my friend. He looks so friendly and happy! Nice fashion sense too!
adorable! the smile is more captivating than the utfit. very lovely style indeed.
He is unique, this guy must have been on your radar, his coloured knitwear is legendary!
Mr. JOY! Beautiful!
I love the lighting
What a beautiful man! He looks like a really funny guy. I love his look.
Now THAT is an awesome look!
enough with his smile!
His bright smile is what makes this picture so wonderful!
Fabulous gold shoes! Goes with the deep yellow in the gloves and hat as well. What a wonderful glowing fashion star.
Fabulously original! That dazzling smile is probably his most stylish accessory...
I love the gold shoes and the huge bag....mixed with the patchwork scarf...truly amazing.
His look is very cluttered but the colors work and that great smile pulls it all together.
Love the gold shoes! This man looks so happy.....what a smile!
Beautiful man. This made me smile.
Kelvin has amazing style. One of the best dressed in San Francisco.
OMG, that hat, and the gold shoes! That is a man who has fun getting dressed in the morning
If I saw him on a gray, depressing kind of day, I'd immediately brighten up. We need more people like this in the world. Those gold shoes are perfect!
This is a guy that likes to be unique. His smile is the best thing about his outfit!
I always enjoy a large mixture of dull colors. I also enjoy how friggin happy this guy looks!
What kind of bag design is that?
Adorable...
http://lauragibsonjewelry.blogspot.com/
Perfection! Everything from his electrifying smile to his splendid shoes. Bravo!
What a joyful man! And he has got some guts with those shoes -- my idol!
xx
This is the shit right here. I never leave a comment on your blog...but god, I just have to for this one. WONDERFUL!!! it is all about being comfortable in you own skin when style truly takes on a personality all its own. PURPLE!!! YOU GO BOY!!!!! You have to be so sure of who you are to wear the color ... but then he blows us away with plaid!!!!! A N D GOLD shoes!!!! OH MY GOD!! LOVE LOVE THE leather bag !!!! The zippers are the industrial element this outfit is craving for...and this man fed the want. The rag doll stitch look is mainly what rocks my world and this gentleman does justice to the Raggedy Anne doll.. or should I say Andy look. I love Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson and I soooo see the beauty in this look as I do in Aminah's art.
Amazing combination and he looks so lively.
welcome back Sart!! we missed your posts....
now this guy is a great find - good spotting! love his warmth and funky layers....and cute pop of gold in his shoes!
what a gorgeous smile too!
so nice that people still have fun with fashion. The gold shoes are fantastic and even though it's busy, it has a nice balance.
he makes me want to smile back
That looks like Kelvin, this awesome guy that used to work at MAC in San Francisco. He always had the most terrific, transformational outfits..and yes, amazing smile :D
absolutely joyous and endearing. i love the contrast in color and pattern. well done.
Toda la onda...me encantooo!! saludos desde Argentina.
interesting bag, but it hurts my eyes to look at anything else!
This guy used to work at MAC in San Francisco.
I love the execution of the Oxford baggies
gold shoes! beautiful happyness wrapped in fashion
Garrett McLean at sm compufix
Now this is the type of layering I <3. So bold yet defined and still not too much! The bag and the shoes are absolutely perfect!
Love this man!
he is so lovely!
perfect gloves!
The first thing that I thought of when I looked at this picture was "the sartorialist is photographing the homeless now." Then I scrolled down to the pants and shoes. There's alot going on with this outfit. Not a fan of this picture. But, I love those shoes.
Her smile is a gift !!!!
And the shoes !
and he has the muji bag!!!! best brand ever! :D
this is such a cheery photo, i love it!
If it wasn't for the Muji bag, I'd think he was homeless!
ohh, so much to love: shoes!bag, pants, hat!!
Holy cow! Amazing outfit!
I like how the little candy boxes of the stand in the background echo the checks in his outfit.
I just see this guy boppin down the street to "Rubberband Man" by the Spinners.
I used to see him in the SF Barney's all the time... He was always wearing multiple ties... like 5 to 10. Love him.
This is Calvin, his style is as warm and playful as his heart......I suppose this explains why we dont see him on the streets of SF anymore....he became a NYer.
KELVIN!!!!!!
I knew him in San Francisco, and believe me - he deserves to have his photo taken every day. He is a complete master of color, layering and proportion. A complete inspiration, and even though I'm not in SF anymore - its great to see him here.
Mr Style. Sue from Sydney
Here I am, sitting at home in the tropical Brisbane heat, and I am just loving all these winter layers. It is so other-worldly.
we love kelvin! so dapper and so kind! that smile is a killer!
Maybe a little bit too much but all in all very nice.
What's with the dumpster chic on The Sartorialist this month? No guys cracking the nod unless they're wearing at least three mismatched jackets and granny hat. Homelessness id so hot right now.
amazing! wonderful colors, shoes and large leather bag! most importantly how can you beat that gorgeous expression?? (happens to have been shopping at a personal favorite too)...www.materiadesigns.com
He is so cool. Look at him.
The hat, the sharp, the large pant, the smile...
I really like him.
What a beautiful man. What verve!
Zajebista torba i wszystko inne i ten uśmiech!
Maybe my favorite Sartorialist shot yet, I love it all, but the smile is what makes it
this man made me smile! It's so rare that people can dress eccentrically and make it look good! What an inspiration.
What an amazing smile...happy clothes, gold shoes and a happy man. Very appealing and beautiful photograph.
you people are hilarious
he looks homeless
ugh
The smile is the best accessory- especially his!!
He makes me happy! I would love to spend a day with him.
Isn't he just the best person you've ever seen?!
I can't help but feel cheerful when I look at him.
His layering and matching is fantastic.
LOVE
aw don't ya just wanna unravel him piece by piece! (that is, until you get to his gold shoes...)
Fantastic smile!
OMG KELVIN!!!
He is such a sweetheart! He was one of the reasons why I love going to MAC in SF before. He is definitely one of the best dressed people I know in SF. And yes I love his dries brogues collection!!! And that jas mb bag is to die for! I think the scarf is by walter van beirendonck!!!
golden shoes are special .. but I like it! :)
He looks cool :)
I love how happy he is
And those shoes... :P
adorable, wondeful sense of colours
this guy is deadly! love them shoes he realy puts a smile on my face this dreary winter evening!
wow! look at his smile!
Oh my Go! It's Kelvin! I love this man! He is as sweet as he looks!
This guy was such a double take for me because at first I thought he was a stylish hobo ( I mean that in the nicest way possible=) until I saw each piece for what they were...very expensive and very chic.
Great smile but wow, too much going on here.
Kelvin blessed man, yes SF still owns him for now, but Paris beckons. Always an inspiration for the eye, and a first class friend.
hermoso!
I really like this one.
