I really like the combination of slightly varied tan hues, in the gloves, shoes and the coat.

And his steely gaze!

Thanks again Scott, you pictures are always fabulous.

My god that is my father reincarnated. I have the receipt for the doppelganger of that coat L.Nichols Esq in account with Pope & Bradley Savile Row To D.B Camel Ulster £37.50 Dec 19th 1949
The gentleman even looks like my father and the gloves are the same the only difference is that my father would never have worn his scarf like that but quietly crossed over and tucked in.

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (9:43 AM) :

Timeless. Those shoes cannot be less than 10 years old, and yet they look great on him. The only tiny little thing I would change would be the gloves, for a slimmer version, also in leather. Jorge from WPB

The quintessential Ralph Lauren Polo camel hair polo coat. Just perfect!

Blogger Jessica Thor-Miller said ... (9:52 AM) :

I adore the different hues of brown and then the pops of red and green. He looks so polished and yet so warm proving that function does not always usurp form.

Anonymous The Recusant said ... (10:08 AM) :

The size, cut, and proportions of his coat are terrible.

Blogger Alanna said ... (10:10 AM) :

Loving the color story here. warm, earthy and the camel coat slightly contrasted by cognac gloves. At least we had a slight reprieve this morning and it *felt* a little warmer. I miss my walk to 40th + 5th - I miss all the great fashions of the morning go- the subway will do for now during this cold weather

wonderful ! and in spite of the classic elegance of the style he ( or perhaps the picture ?:) has a wonderful touch of earthy urban magic ...vive l' oxymoron in writing as in life (style) !! Conc in Berlin

Blogger Couture Coco said ... (10:42 AM) :

The epitome of classic style. Only blot on the landscape, his pocket is too full and will ruin the shape.
What is in there anyway? All he should need is a pocket hankerchief (in an inner pocket of the coat or jacket or trousers underneath) and a slim wallet surely? Anything more should be housed in a small attache case or document holder or briefcase.

Anonymous Heidi Swift - Grit and Glimmer said ... (10:44 AM) :

Blogger Rob Boddice said ... (10:58 AM) :

Not all about the green hat. The hang of his trousers suggest he's wearing suspenders (braces). What you can't see often is just as important as what you can.

He looks very elegant, but you'll never see a chinese people wearing a green hat. The meaning of 'wearing a green hat' is 'being cuckold'...

Anonymous Joe said ... (11:09 AM) :

Great Pic, Sart. Agree with all the comments here. Love the 2 inch cuff (?), clean shoes, coat (is that a flap over the check pocket?) and the robin hood green colored hat. Great stuff.

Blogger Bob Spears said ... (11:13 AM) :

Great look and the hat adds a touch of whimsey. It is clear that this gentleman pays attention to his look. Everything is just so and his shoes look well cared for. The only hiccup that I can see is that his trousers need just a tad more length but I guess that is just a personal preference. Scott the photos are great please keep it up.

That coat. Reminds me of Michael Imperiloi's character in 'Law and Order'. The man is always on point. Too bad the weather over here doesn't so cold as to warrant a 3/4 coat.

I disagree. I do like the hat on him but i think he has a lot of other things going on. The shoes are great, the jacket is awesome. And he complimented the look with gloves and a scarf. He just looks very polish, impeccable. Plus he's very tall, it's like his presence demands attention.

Lookee here, Scott. I've been a DIE-HARD follower of your blog since around Oct 05. You were fresh, exciting, a welcome oasis to the staid men's rag magazines. Composition-wise, your photos are still stellar, but the blog has evolved away from the energy it used to have regarding authentic men's style. Gone are the interviews, profiles, personalities, et cetera and so on of the men who weave the fabric of every day life & the blog is littered with the same BS that you see everywhere---is this a reflection of your influence? Of course it is & hat's off to you for your influence. But, we don't care that you have a great double-breasted topcoat in Paris accompanied by the phone to your ear ("what sort of deal is he making? L'Uomo Vogue, Russian GQ or is he simply checking his credit card balance?"), we don't care that your romance has sparked with a French fashion blogger/illustrator (whose blog is incredible, but the fact that you divorced your wife & hooked up with Garance...a trite cliched, don't you think?), and Australia? What. Ever. Please, please return to what you used to be: a vibrant voice, a volcano...a bandana-cum-pocket square neatly placed on a five thousand dollar coat. We need you. Signed, A-Loyalist-To-A-Point

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:31 PM) :

My father wears this every.single.day.

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:40 PM) :

I know you're not a matchmaker, Scott.
BUT . . . this man seems to beckon me, and I think I need to answer the call! Do you have his contact information? He is a true dapper Don, but is he single? Is he straight? Is he searching? If yes to all of the above, please let him know that, although I didn't meet him romantically -- on some enchanted evening across a crowded room (as I'd have liked), I did meet him on the world-wide web on a crisp and cold evening here in Boston. That's 21st-century romance, dapper Don! E-mail me and love me! (That's the sequence of events I predict for Dapper and me.)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:56 PM) :

That is beautiful. Looking forward to pulling off the feminine version of this look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:01 AM) :

He was smart to put the green and the red around his face. If he had the camel too close to his skin, it would have washed him out. I have the same problem with these earth tone colors in winter. And what's not to love about grey and camel, a beautiful combination.

I've got a similar hat! Unfortunately men cannot wear green hat in China for some reason, I'm a girl though..And great coat!

Blogger Bob said ... (1:46 PM) :

The "green hat" captioned would certainly be a "loden" hat, made from a hatting weight version of the wool and alpaca blended weave that one might still see in some Austrian or Italian coats. The "loden" green is the traditional Tyrolian color.

Makes a very warm and rain and snow repellent hat and is a perfect compliment to the casual style of the camel hair polo coat worn in town and which, Ralph, as most of you know, did not invent.

Nothing trendy, just pure class. I love it, love him. He looks like he belongs in Edward Hopper's "Nighthawks" (1941)...

Well done, sir, for giving us hope that that man still exists.

Magnificent...at first, I thought it was Stephen Drucker of House Beautiful, but no. Can we give this to every man on the East Coast and say This, This is what one should look like. Enough with the trash, one should have elegance!

You will die for those shoes. If you touch them! Note the large bulge in his Ferragamoish cashmere overcoat. This Capo is packin' heat!

Is this Gay Talese?

Blogger anthony said ... (2:57 PM) :

Too much brown even though he has good skin colour. The coat is a little long. It's a pity he loses his chin in the scarf. He looks almost as good as Leonard Cohen in the hat.

Oh no - it's definitely about the shoes: handmade and seriously expensive, no doubt.

The shallow depth of field in this photo is spectacular.
Also love the length of the trench. He's like Inspector Gadget's dad.

While a great colour combination, green hats are very unlucky in the Chinese tradition! Basically it means the guy is getting cuckold! I hope that isn't the case for this (seemingly) nice gentleman!
