Comments on "On the Street....26th St., NYC"
cool! :)
this is easily one of my favorite photographs---the perfect frame that lights form around her face, the contrast of her boots and the copper colored dirt and the freshness of her eyes all contribute to a picture reminiscent of the Twilight Zone in its perfect surrealism
a definitely happy new year!!!
kind of like a female rob zombie look.
totally hot.
great post to start out the new decade!!!
Nice boots!
watch out!!
This is how it's done!!!!
Grungy with loads of attitude
Great photo! I love her boots.
The hair looks great.
so cool i love the vintage shoes and messy do!!
xoxo,

lekisskiss.blogspot.com <-- 2 girls bloggin fashion from nyc and chicago!
Love, love, love the use of background to frame the subject.
Very butch... Love the shoes!
I love it!she's got 'that I don't care'-feel about her but she's still drop dead gorgeous.
She looks like she's trying too hard.
LOVE IT!!! comfortable yet sexy. If most people wore that outfit they would look awful.. but she looks warm comfortable, stylish and really rock and roll! Love the belt detail, and her hair! Girl crush!
http://stylespotterfashionblogger.blogspot.com
Uh hah... I always loved the Underworld look! Great to have you back, Scott! Sabine x
Super edgey look! I dig the pant's, longjohns, and boots look. Bravo, great photo!
When boots/shoes are worn for a long time its easy to see if its new or been worn into. These boots have a sense of old age but yet it also looks so new (because ripped, dirty are pretty popular with leather)
Raw subject matter beautifully framed.
wow! I can feel her strenght oozing from the picture.
i like the jacket and boots! great picture!
best wishes this new year.
Love the look, love her expression. This outfit is great with combat boots or a pair of suede silletto booties.
Happy New Year Sart - good to have you back.
Di from San Francisco
Not wild about the jacket, but I love the shorts, shoes and belt.
Love the darkness in the photo and in her clothing. Great shot. By the way, saw your interviews on the Big Think. Nice work.
Wow, anime character style?! Love it.
The definition of EDGE...love the worn boots and leather jacket.
The florescent lights looks she has outstretched wings. Nice. Love the color of blue of her bomber jacket.
Yesterday I went to see a film about a working artist I like very much. In the film he said when he was in art school the style was not to make something beautiful but ugly. He didn't agree. Here you go. I know some folks are going to make this out to be intriguing but I just think it's unattractive. And I own some of the artist's work so I put my money where my heart is.
Awesome shoes!
Cool, she looks like a video game character, very tough. Love the worn in boots!
http://ganymedekids.blogspot.com
Magnifique!
J'adore son look.
great look! just hope the tunnel isn't part of the lifestyle.
definitely one of your better portraits, the outfit's really raw and emotional. well captured.
love the colors and textures, but i feel this outfit doesn't do this woman justice. wish i could see more of her face or figure, she seems fascinating.
If Darryl Hannah in 'Blade Runner' were a brunette she'd look like this. Very nice.
MJ lives!!!
I love the harmonious combination of different shades of black through different textures. Brilliant.
I like the jacket and the boots. The shorts notsomuch.
Happy New Year!
Great pic! Love the jacket and the weathered look of boots.
WTF???
If a less pretty girl tried this look it would be considered a disaster by all, not just me.
Love this jacket...
XXX...
Very interesting look!
Did someone say Underworld. Her fact actually does look a lot like Kate Beckinsale...after the battle.
It's kind of a disaster but she carries it well.
Not exactly my style, but looks pretty good on her!
Good to have you back and back in the groove image wise.
This is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Candid New York street fashion photos
OOOFT!
That is an INSANELY good look…almost unisex and very authentic.
This is such an inspiring style photo! I like to see images like this that offer different definitions of femininity.
She's reminiscent of Kate Beckinsale in the movie "Underworld," but with a lot more bite. Kinda like the love child of Patti Smith and Kate Beckinsale. I love it.
These elements -- from the messy hair to the scuffed boots -- are really hard to pull off without looking sloppy, outdated or flat out butch. And yet this lovely woman has managed to make it work wonderfully. I'll definitely be studying this for clues on how to recreate the magic happening here.
I disagree with the comment above that this is about her pretty face.
While individual presence always plays a role in successful style, if you cover her face this look still works. (That's a little trick I often use to determine if I'm reacting to the model or the outfit: place your thumb over the face, then judge.)
Question for The Sartorialist:
the jacket looks like it has a metallic blue finish, which is making me go gahhhh! Is that just a coincidence of the lighting?
Great composition--love the background! She reminds me of the Kate Beckinsdale character in Underworld. Nice to see new posts on your blog--looking forward to more wonderful photos in 2010
Violet from "The Incredibles"!
Menacing! The Warriors spring to mind.
www.openzedoor.blogspot.com
Wow! Nice! She looks fierce!
Love the shot but the outfit seems a bit forced on her. The long johns are just too clean.
GAH!! This is my girl crush!! Ive seen her around the lower east and east village a few times and always end up "stalking" her until I feel creepy! hahaha-- amazing style and gorgeous girl.. sigh....
i see her at whole foods bowery sometimes. she is amazing. love her style.
Holy cow! This fierce chic totally reminds me of Tom Hardy in the newest BBC remake of Wuthering Heights. He was hot and so is she. Swoon.
Can't find a full-length photo of him from the film, but found this shot that helps convey the similarities.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qAiteMOBQnY/SpQY0dgFzuI/AAAAAAAAAnE/OJ5DUlLm00w/s1600-h/hEATHCLIFF.jpg
the worn boots with the white slouchy long johns is an awesome contrast. lovely and unaffected at all once.
Me love the jacket.
Cool..!!
~dzaza
Artsy photo.
Subject matter -- just horrible. Imitation MJ or is that a homeless person?
So nice! I adore!
Ohmigod...now *that* is fierce. So hot. What a fantastic way to kick off the new year/decade! Beautiful shot--the lights framing her face are tremendous. And she is...my goodness...the stuff of my fantasies. Thanks Sart!
The lights give her wings--brilliant! A hard rock fairy!
It's not so much what she's wearing, but the wonderful background that fits her perfectly. I cannot imagine this look with a field of flowers in the back. Great eye, Sart!
Cheers to a glorious 2010!
LA
Maybe she's inspired by the swedish film character Lisbeth Salander ..? Probably not, but she looks like her though!
i love it. i love her boots, i love the (as i choose to call it) sinner-hair, and the fact that she went through the trouble of keeping the buckle on her belt exposed despite the heavy jacket!
great look to start NEW YEAR!
I love the jacket!
amazing look, she is beyond cool.
So SO good! Full of mood and personality oozes from everwhere. I love that I can wear this outfit too... and I would!
love each piece separately...just not all together. yucky for me, sorry. loads better street style in nyc.
It's so expensive to live in NY. Is this a trust fund baby? Or some kind of band roadie. Probably both. I'm just trying to figure out how people who do the "homeless chic" look pay their bills in NY.
I am mostly struck by the fact that this is so POLARLY different than your last post, with the old photos - just goes to show the broadness of true style and the Sart's ability to capture it! But, secondly, I'm impressed by the photo even more than I like her look (although I do) - the tunnel setting was a great choice, especially with the hair and kinda crazy-eyes vibe.
This is wht I love about your work; you can take us from 'An Unknown Family of Style' ,to kinda crazy on 26th Street.
You are a great inspiration and your diversity of image is impeccable.
Thanks.......L
Today on the subway in Boston, I saw a young woman who was wearing something completely different yet similar: the dark blues, the line--not tight and skinny, but big and wide! I thought her look was completely new and a harbinger of what's to come!
At first glance I thought it was a young man and I didn't like the look at all. At second glance she became a very hot young woman, with a very pulled together look.
she's emmanuelle alt, yes? or just a lookalike? ok, whoever she is, she's such an amazing woman with great style. everything she wore had always got me stunned. the beat up boots are awesome and the grunge feel of her look is simply wow-tastic!
Love the hairstyle and the boots!
this image is spectacle, spectacular. space is my canvas and this is what i strive for when creating spaces; beauty, edge, strength, synthesis. i am in love with this woman.
blackandpoole.com
wow nice shoes and nice hair! :)
www.jetblackdye.blogspot.com
She looks a bit like Emmanuelle Alt, but this lady is much younger. My first thought was "lovely & so Grunge" which Is a style I really love. Its all about the combination and getting stuff that do not work on paper, but then in real life, really DO work!
She looks a bit oveer done though, in my opinion, like trying too hard. Her hair is great, but a loose ponytail would fit the outfit better, I don't know really, but there is just something with that outfit that doesn't work. Maybe the shoes should be authentic Dr Martens.. Then I might believe her :)
those boots have aged beautifully!
I agree the lighting is lovely. But I bought those pants in Iowa City, Iowa in 1989 and everyone laughed. Love the recycled boots, brilliant. Wish blue were my color...
can some one please figure out who this woman is?? i live in the bowery and catch glimpses catch glimpes of her looking totally amazing. totally curious!
your best photograph ever. according to me.
there is more than one thing to admire, but i get the sense you time-traveled to find this image. just after world war three and the u.s.'s collapse. it's amazing the electricity still works.
paralyzing.
doing too much.
Best footwear EVER!
Amazing amazing amazing! Utterly stunning! So much attitude, electricity, this is easily one of best photos! wow!
I relly like those boots, you can see they have a tonn of personality! And she looks absolutey awesome!
supa fantastic!!!

That was me and I passed out a short time later. Sorry for the typos. What I meant to say is:
"Did someone say Underworld? Her face actually does look a lot like Kate Beckinsale...after the battle.
It's kind of a disaster but she carries it well."
Amazing work
...no words...cannot make up my mind about her outfit. It makes me feel kind of confused...
Hate or Love?
definitely do not want to come across her on a bad day
awesooommme~
awesooommme~
I love these layers!
Well done...
I love her hair and aged boots!
A truly great 2010 photo!
Let's grow up later
I prefer a more elegant look, like the family in the photos below. It does work on her, it's just not to my taste.
This is a good example of an outfit that your mother would never tell you to wear. But it all comes off beautifully here. The colors are great, the textures are interesting, and the girl totally "inhabits" the look and she makes it really work for her. She gives you the feeling that you're in her world now, so you might as well get used to it. I love this. It's creative, well-realized, and tough enough to be especially interesting on a girl.
very refreshing, raw and beautiful.
awful.
oh gosh no. A total mess imo. Would've been great if it was towned down even by just a little bit. The items seperately are nice but this is just too much.
Love the boots. I love the setting of this photograph as well. Great posing on her part and interesting forward fashion. xoxo

Bad to the Bone!
I love her jacket! But she looks a bit scary...
Best photo ever?
Did any of you go to college in the 1990's?
She looks like an ex-cheerleader that's just discovered lesbian chic "tough" and is trying, very trying to let all know. Ah, the contrived combat of the coffee shop!
fresh!
Vitality in winter!
Too hardcore and over the top for me...
fridayswithcilantro.blogspot.com
I hate the shorts, so not what I expected when I saw her face. However, the underpants are fantastic.
The composition of this photograph is just perfection!!! She is also an amazing subject - so cool and yet so disheveled. Beautiful x
i like all the pieces, (especially the boots) and her beautiful face, but the whole effect looks lumpy.
Great outfit, I would wear it and I am a guy. My problem is the lost of femininity. I feel the only thing making this outfit over the top is that there is a attractive woman popping out of it. Maybe that is enough, I don't know. To heavy or masculine needs more of her.
God, she's so hot.
I absolutely adore this ! Smashing :)
Oh Yeeesssss !!!!!!!
Nice shot. If she were under 18, it would be funky. But she's just too old to be trying this hard to be edgy.
What is with the gross slouchy tights on people?!
Marc Jacobs, this lady... will it ever end?
Not only is her outfit amazing, she's absolutely beautiful. Very edgy.
Attitude does not necessarily equal style. Whether she projects charisma or not, her clothing is just awful. POLISH YOUR BOOTS, I say!
wow, great photo
As we say in Scotland " I would'nae mess," but really where is she going dressed like that. I want to go too. I,m all for a little distressed somewhere in an outfit. This girls too young to worry about gloss.
too rock and roll, too manicured, realy boring look
Stunning in all aspects from the photo, to the model, to the clothes - all. This girl is so cool it hurts. I want one.
She looks great. Almost TOO great... I'll bet she's a stylist.
On December 21, 2012, I will follow the One in the gorgeous metallic slate jacket. : )
She looks like a DARK ANGEL with attitude...
love the boots, esp the rusty edge
Lisbeth Salander ..!? :D
Lisbeth Salander ..!? :D
This is androgyny at it's finest - I'd believe it if I was told this was a guy OR a girl but not in insulting manner. This is bashing stereotypes of gender over the head - really interesting
www.styleremainsblog.blogspot.com
Happy 2010!
I would hate to meet her in a dark alleyway but can admire her fierce and fabulous look/outfit from afar!
I love the boots!
Very Stieg Larsson heroine
o dear, i think i've fallen in love... :)
hot!
Belt buckle + shoes - Nice combo!
xx
I totally agree with the person who said this outfit looks like it's from a movie - she could have walked straight out of 'Terminator: Salvation', or an editorial about ultra-masculine dressing! For such a grungy outfit, it seems strangely almost over-styled. I think because everything about it is SO masculine (materials, fit, etc) it might almost be... too much? I mean it's so typical of one specific style, and so artfully messy and ill-fitting (in just the right way) that it seems like she's trying really hard.
..she lives in my building...
this girl is kind of scary... she looks sick :(
The good thing: she usually have cool boots ;)
I don't get it. She's my neighbor and she wears the same ensemble everyday... no imagination, no variety, and frankly no style... it's just the same old monotonous black crap. I'm expecting to see this look at The Gap next season, pseudo badass!
I love the boots, I am desperate for a pair like that, any idea's?
I love this "Lisbeth Salander`s" look!!!
Love, love, love...
Badass. I like it when people pull off the "I don't give a shit (but I really kinda do)" look.
She could be a real life Lisbeth Salander from "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo"! Love her!
I like that she TRIED to be edgy. It takes discipline and guts to have theme and style everyday. I admire that. She reminded me very much of a heroine from French film 'La Femme Nikita'. I love the raw, physicality and strength she exudes. City version of Amazone warrior. What a refreshing look ; I was tired of carefully coordinated chic and this was a great visual game changer. Tks!
Pretty girl--her clothes look like she is trying really hard to be cool.
Tokio Hotel!:)?
It's not what you wear but how you wear it - yet again.
She carries this one of with her confidence i think. Personally when i see the outfit overall i feel abit "erm...maybe not" But at the same time i love it because it seems like she woke up and said "Heck today i wanna dress like a pirate/Chrissie Hynde" And she does it! Great :)
great blog.
way too contrived. Like a costume not an outfit.
not convinced by this myself. She has a very LA, 'costume department-from-a-vampire-series' type feel...the look in her face is too conventionally pretty/unimaginative/self-conscious. Shes not real grunge. Real punk and grunge is an attitude and the outfit a bi-product of this; whereas this outfit is just the surface look.
Love everything about it...Oh to be young again...reminds me of my big green doc marten boots days...
One of my all time favorites! She is so cool.
hey newsflash Scott, that's a boy! that guy is the vocalist form Tokio Hotel
i would have guessed berlin...surprisingly it's not :)
THIS IS JUSTIN BOBBY'S TWIN SISTERRRRRR
Perspective lines says a lot. Great work!
I used to have boots just like those!
Enfant tellement terrible.
Shut the front door!!! I can't even talk right now. Everything about this picture makes me cry tears of joy!!!
Great photo!! Lights at the background. Excellent!
So cool..
Perfection.
I always had a dream of being able to give that smoldering of a stare.
Dripping the Dark Divine!
I think this is my favorite of the month. Very unique. Like a young Joan Jett in steampunk garb.
She looks like the vampire girl in UNDERWORLD!!!
I am in love..
i feel like if i was in a movie! fantastic
Dickens' Oliver but older, tuffer and hotter.
YEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!
Wow, this is amazing. I'm not sure if I like the femme or the backdrop more. Stellar shot.
I like this and she's gorgeous but for some reason the belt buckle puts me off?
I like the worn out boots. It shows history.
It is rather strange to read such remarks- I was informed that "she" was on the site- a "she" whom is a dear friend- truthful, honest, and one of the most sincere individuals I have ever met.
HOW ONE "CLOTHES" ONESELF IS HOW ONE PROTECTS ONESELF - and with a HEART as hers- i understand the "outward display".
It is that which is on the INSIDE-- dispose of physical judgments and really SEE!
The boots are just really cool along with the models overall outfit. Great job!
ANOUK: my favourite!!
