On the Street.... So Much to See, Paris
Where to start?
- the "retro" extended shirt collar
- the 3-pc. suit worn without a hint of stuffiness
- the simple brown/grey color story
- the playfulness of purple socks
But the single most important element of this look!
- the masterfully/effortlessly rolled (almost punched) brim of his hat. Really, doesn't that one element of his look tell you everything you need to know about this gentleman?

wow ! Impressive...
Love the purple!
Love the socks. Are those pants trendy right now?
AMAZING!! A true sartorial hero.
Yes.. This is masterfully done. He really thought this out.. Where do you find these guys.. hmm? These gentlemen make me less afraid to age.
Thatha mdala...!!!
Gotta love the shirt collar. Some people just really know how to work something and also make it work for them.
knows how to break the rules. love the 'in motion' effect of the 2nd photo.
what a gorgeous older man! :-)

That face, that boyishly tilted brim, the spring in his walk, priceless. Whatever it is you do, when you photograph strangers, you make them feel really comfortable, and it shows in every shot.
A pleasure as always.
Sandra
Classy, thoughtful, attention to detail, good use of colour, dapper, joy de vivir and most importantly well dressed with that smile.....
The purple socks are great! I love people who have interesting socks peeking out, especially when the rest of the outfit is simple and plain.

Simply awesome!
This gentlemen's outfit is simply wonderful. I love the organized chaos of it all, but most of all, I love his bright socks!
Wow, he really is so chic, so stylish, it's great to see people his age that can inspire you so much!
kiss
this is a very positive gentleman in the pictures, his shoe+socks are individual

Magnificent coat. How much does it weigh? He pronates. Needs a different style shoe.
And the mini-beard/five o'clock shadow. Don't forget that!
Oh, what a man!
i'd marry him
i saw him in paris, was near rue st honoré!
beautiful, his face and clothes totally match
a gentleman.

I usually dont give unreserved appreciation like this, but these shots were simply amazing. The effortlessness and spring in his step, the boyish smile on his face, when i grow older i want to feel like this guy looks! Truly inspiring and comforting at the same time. It's all going to be OK, you know! ;)
That is a fantastic hat, and yeah, he shapes it perfectly. Great look overall. I'd totally wear this.
cool :D he looks awesome!
//Johanna
As Tom Haverford--of NBC's Parks & Recreation fame--would say, he is "wearing the hell out of that suit."
And this is how you realize fashion does tell stories.
Love it! This kind of people are my fave, it all tells a story ;D!
xx,

Nah, not feeling this. There is one too many colours. The black/navy tie, with brownish scarf, and different brown coat are clashing. And am I the only one who hates those kinds of collars on shirts? My favourite things are the socks!
Energie
My eyes went directly to the brim of hishat, already in the 1st photo!
Undescriptable!
When in Milan for some book signatures?
Outstanding! The socks, the pant length, the walk. Love it.
This man is so simply elegant, and so sexy, I could die! Where are these men in America?
What a gorgeous man. I'd follow him home any day of the week!
He is something else!!!!!!and he knows it!....love him
So 40's!
This man has incredible style. How easily he pulls it off.
His style reminds me of Fred Astaire who was a major style icon...very chic!
I hope that I can one day be this dapper.
This man is all about attitude, I love that!
You have to love a man who dares to wear purple socks. Thumbs up!!!!

Your commentary elevates your photographs. Everything about this man is wonderful and everything about your skills as both a photographer and a blogger are wonderful. You are a true sartorialist.
Thank you for always providing inspiration!
This is perfect. This is a man. And the hat is my favorite bit, too!
Great photos, Scott!
I love 3-pc. suits, I wish the'd come back in style. In the meantime, we'll have The Mentalist and films like Michael Collins.
Wish my Dad dressed like this!! Love the style of a man if he can wear it right.

Besides what you already mentioned, I love that scarf and the way he is wearing it!
If I were a man of a certain age, this is the look I would go for. The socks and hat are superb touches.
Don't forget the beautifully tailored suit and coat.
love all the attention to detail from both the photographer and the photographed.

obsessed.
Is the tie a handknit (or at least knitted). The hat does say a lot, but those cobalt socks say more.
I love the socks!!!!!!
His coat is 3 sizes bigger...gives him no frame...nice socks though!
Perfection. Please take more shots of this very stylish man.
so classic...
soooo parisian.

the look of the uncle is incredible, gorgeous
(I thought that advertising on the side there was some porn site, oh it's American Apparel.)
Now that you are pointing out the details I can see them. I wouldn't mind you doing this more often, Scott. It's really educational (in the best way).
Random thought Sart (please respond because I'd love to hear your thoughts)...
I think the fact that the images on your website are copyrighted is disgustingly capitalistic and cruel. You would have none of these beautiful images if it wasn't for these beautiful people who allow you to capture them free of charge. YET, you make money from their images and want to tell people that they can't reproduce these images without your permission?
I think it'd be fair to say "no one can reproduce these images for the purpose of making profit" but I think it's very greedy CEO of you to try and copyright other's creativity. It's unnecessary and adds an ugliness to your page.
Please rethink your artistic principles and ethics.
This is a man who truly takes care of every single detail, but I must admit I wasn't too impressed until I saw the second pic and that purple colour hit me! Gotta ove that!
Nice! I like gentleman that take care of their looks.

Yes, Mrs Schumann. It's really Amazing!!
The purple socks are amazing and show that he is truly a fag when it comes to dressing up. Wonderful!
He's working it- coming and going!
The purple socks are odd.

WE CAN ALL BE FASHION AND BEAUTIFUL ( inspite of wrinkles and grey hairs )...FOREVER !
KISS !
=========================================================
The look in his eyes is everything... He's a benevolent presence, passing you by, taking you in with a single glance that says, "I knew you'd be walking this way." And then you never see him again.

Oo la la...very dapper!
Perfection. A man completely at one with himself and his personal style.
H E A V E N !
This is an indescribable shot of a man who looks like a combination of James Bond and Viggo Mortensen. It certainly says a lot, story through style if you will. Makes me miss living in Milan, even though New York is filled with fashionistas...
http://mentour.blogspot.com/
Men with a few wrinkles, some grey hair and a great sense of style are so breath-takingly handsome. This man is particularly attractive because he has all that and what appears to be a healthy dose of wit. How charming.
The socks are a very nice accent.
They almost look Klein blue..
http://www.lesflaneur.com
Looking oh so sharp.
love the blue socks!
the hat, yes I agree that detail on the hat makes it. mind you, purple socks have quite the statement in & of themselves.
answer to ANONIMOUS:
This man is so simply elegant, and so sexy, I could die! Where are these men in America? -
you can find few of this kind in Toronto, Ontario, and much more in Montreal and Quebec City, Quebec, but all in Canada... ;-)
come to visit and check for yourself! you wont be disappointed!
Love the shot and witty grin in his eyes! thanks for sharing!
best!
~ag
splendid
only you have that eye for these details
thanks for pointing that out
Having said my Kanye West peace,
I LOVE THIS! It makes me want to take notes on how I should dress 30 years from now :)
Recently, I had the pleasure of watching Fellini's "8 1/2" after not having seen it for many years, so when I saw this shot I thought, "My God! It's Guido's hat!" Indeed, just as that chapeau was one of the great stylistic elements that Mastroianni employed in the creation of the character of Guido, so does this gentleman know about the major importance of seemingly minor things.
Certainly, you are right about the use of gray and brown to create the wonderful color story we see here-so simple and yet so direct in terms of the appeal to the eye. And, as someone else has remarked above, we know that this is a man with a great sense of personal style since this is a gent who knows the power of a good pair of hose.
now...THAT is a sharp-dressed man!!
He reminds me of Sir Laurence Olivier in A Little Romane. C'est charmant.
LOVE!!
i definitely see the personality in the hat. and the clothes are worn effortlessly! refreshing.
perfect.
I love the scarf material. and his jaunty brim.
This man has an incredibly charismatic smile. I love how he looks so relaxed in the suit and brought a bit of whimsy to it with the colorful socks. Part of style is being comfortable in your own skin - this man pulls it off amazingly well.
Now that's a man who is secure in who he is. Really nice photo.
You pictures are not only perfect, your comments are, too! Hat and socks make the man.
Wow - now that's style. He makes it look so easy!
Wonderful! He looks like a fancy Monsieur Hulot (Jacques Tati) from the back with his coat blowing out over those little tapered legs.
It´s a masterpiece. His suit, jacket and scarf were in the perfect shade of colour and went wih each other quite well, the purple socks added such a cool approach to life. And his hat´s brim is indeed perfect.
like spring has arrived in person.
I do agree with everything you wrote plus I would add some appreciation for the shoes. Great style comes together with great quality. These days we look for quality. Moreover, I consider the Gentleman so nostalgic and romantic. Beautiful persona.
a man with really good taste.very refreshing!
'Everything you need to know about this man'...! Come one, Sart, you cannot be that superficial - people are way more than their looks.
I know this man. I buy my clothes from him in the 16eme on Rue de la Pompe. He is a gentleman.
Fantastic!
Ouaaaah, that guy has such a good style! I love this kind of retro vintage style, I have the impression that he comes from the 30's. My boyfriend has this kind of style. He wears U-NI-TY, Y3, Paul Simth...I love when boys take care of themselves.
These type of photos you are making I just adore!
The "object of your attention" - here - is just aboslutely and undisputedly 100 % sartorial!
Love that purple socks! Cute !
Ruggedly handsome, cute socks, playful at heart. Great find!
He's cuter than Kanye West, and better dressed lol

Photographed in Paris but Italian, isn't he ?
Sart - Love it. I see a few postings that don't like too much, but I love how he just put it on and walked out the door.
I mix my color socks up with everything. I really don't have the time or fuss about how it looks. As long as it doesn't scream ugly at you, I am cool.

I'm a big hat fan. 50 to 60 years ago they were as common as a man wearing socks. Then hats totally disappeared!! Hats are practical, not only fashionable!! They are not pretentious!! Viva la chapeau!!
I cannot put into words the perfection of this look. Most people DREAM of having a personality and style such as his.
absolutely perfect. the antithesis of kanye.
the socks make the whole style!love the colour splash, and love colourful socks on men!great shot!
Excellent , only one complaint , the collar - but we'll let it slide.
Too bad this country does not have enough gentleman
who dress like this.
This is pure perfection and genuinely added happiness to me day
Oh Parisien man, I miss you.
I like this post!
It is his socks that tell me all I need to know!
And I love what he is saying!
www.BlumeBloom.com
For me, it's the casualness of the stance that makes it -- the hands in pockets says who's in charge of this look...& it's not the clothes.
I would like to meet this man... hmmmm... what's his story?
AMAZING. the hat got me there the socks sold me.
Yes! and that's why fashion is art.
Those last posts were amazing - so cool to view, thank you for sharing...
Love the socks!
fabulous and manly at the same time. understated and explosive!
Hi, I love your blog and check it out as often as I can. I find that the men you shoot are so interesting because you post a variety (young, old, skinny, fat, tall, short etc...) yet they all look amazing. The women look amazing as well but I’m curious why there isn’t the same amount of variety?!
Love, love, love these photos. This gentleman has style from head to toe. Wow. I cannot stop looking at him.
epitome of style and great confidence...
the purple socks are genius.
Great outfit all the way around, edgy socks, a shave wouldn't hurt.
love the shoes pants socks detail!!!

And by God - he's HOT... !
perfection. wish i could dress like that NOW and not wait 20 years.
@ s strong: the word "fag" is always violently insulting. i don't know if it's current slang in some euro-capital or other, but as an american, let me tell you - it's always awful and shocking to hear. never clever, never cool.
wow. it's all about the details, and i honestly didn't notice some of those things until they were pointed out. also love the bright socks. he looks pretty awesome. xx
to tell the truth, i didn't think much of his personality until i saw his parting shot. the purple socks say so much.
oh, I am in love!
LOVE it! reminds me of 'the godfather' <3
I die over the socks!
What a gorgeous man with a great smile and a wonderful suit. This man oozes style. Isn't the hat just perfect for his face?
Sexy...
ah yes - those details!! I swear - you always find something I've missed. Handsome gentleman, with a little extra panache!!
definitely did not expect to see superman blue socks, but that made the outfit in my eyes. Very original yet still playful.
wow, the socks make it for me.
I like the way the texture of his beard combines with the texture of his suit...
Top notch
Je l'aime! Je ladore!! Je mourrais pour lui!!
Thank you, Scott, for helping me get the courage to bash my hats. That's character!
OH my ABSOLUTLY ADORABLE.
