At Pitti Uomo.....Turtlenecks & Green, Florence

This shot captures two of the biggest trends I've seen on the gentleman of Pitti Uomo this season.

First, green as an impact color. I don't know if it's just me or if all the really cool guys seem to be working a dash of green into their best looks lately.

Second, turtlenecks in every proportion. Either big and chunky and worn with a peacoat/ parka or slim and sleek and worn with a suit or sportscoat.

Those trousers are so interesting! I like how he's mixed so many textures - the silk of the kerchief, the leather gloves, the wool suit, and the panelling on the trousers.

Are turned up collars a trend as well?
I'm old school and love jackets sitting how they are supposed to.
Big fan of green, it hasn't been centre stage for a while and is in contrast to all the melon and oranges variations that we've had this summer in Australia.

Anonymous vw said ... (5:00 AM) :

I saw lots of men, of all ages, fine knit turtlenecks and sports jackets when I was in Berlin last week. It's a very elegant look. The two shades of green elevate this look to something special.

Perhaps a shirt is just not cosy enough for the extremely cold winter we are having in Europe.

SUPER PHOTO ( yes...as always ! ) ( and certainly forever ! )
About the outfit :
GREAT COLOR ...THAT GREEN MATCHES PERFECTLY WITH THAT YELLOW !
HOWEVER, ACCORDING TO MY TASTE ...( i 'm a fashion designer ) THE SHOULDERS ARE TOO SHORTS, REALLY TO SHORT AND THE MATERIAL IN THE POCKET IS 100% UNNECESSARY ...
BUT EXCEPT ALL POINTS NOTICED...THIS IS GREAT !
KISSES !

It's incredible how everybody see different colors in the same photography. Nice neo-cargo grey marengo(for me)trousers. However I prefer more shocking and colorful handkerchiefs, like the ones made by Etro.

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (8:37 AM) :

I think green suits him well. I can get behind the velvet jacket, I can see the trendy pants, but a turtleneck is a dangerous proposition, does not work for everyone. Luckily, we dont see many in South Florida. Great pictures! Jorge from WPB

the jacket - luv the green
the turtleneck - perfect staple
the pants - great design
the gloves - goes perfectly
the guy - umm, super cute

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:43 AM) :

He does look sharp. Like another poster said, a different color/pattern handkerchief might set things off nicely, but maybe that's the job of the phone.

The pants look good while he's sitting, but I wonder about when he gets up (cargo pants...).

Great gloves.

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:58 AM) :

I like it all together. I think the jacket is a bit too bright green. With the pocket square, it looks a bit like a St. Patrick's Day outfit.

He has done it well.

Blogger green lantern said ... (12:32 PM) :

Thanks Sart for mentioning the much forgotten turtleneck. I wear a black one religiously. In my neck of the woods (West Coast) it is hard to find one. I see variations e.g. mock, half zip, shawl...but nothing beats a turtle...!

Anonymous Splendid Market said ... (12:34 PM) :

I love the green and, of course, Florence -- but that mint green silk pocket puff is what catches my eye. Great photo, interpretation.

Blogger Bob Spears said ... (12:41 PM) :

The green blazer with the nice picket square and the black turtleneck work well with his skin tone and hair but I am not digging the gloves or the pants with this outfit. The gloves are too chunky for the slender fit of the blazer and you can just forget the cargo pockets on the pants.

Nice capture though.

Blogger Lin said ... (1:00 PM) :

I LOVE the jacket, it would look great on a female as well. I especially love the little splash of the lighter green in the pocket. I love the color green but don't usually wear it with black, but it sure works well on him, and I'll be sure to use the pairing more often from now on!

Anonymous evalyn said ... (1:48 PM) :

Yes, the green is great and, always, a turtle neck is a little mysterious, but shouldn't the clothes fit? What's the deal with men wearing sport coats/suit coats that are too small? The shoulder are too narrow, the front barely meets and the sleeves are two short. If he takes deep breath, buttons will fly and seams will pop.

Anonymous davidsl said ... (1:53 PM) :

this guy is very cute. love the dark green jacket with the lime green pocket square. it is the bright yellow phone, though, that makes the photo!

This is actually a revisiting of a classic look originally favored by gentlemen who shoot or ride to hounds - hence the named color "hunter green." The silhouette is trimmer and a tad shorter, but the inspiration is clear.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:49 PM) :

I'm just not sure about the slim turtleneck. It sometimes looks good, this guy is an example, but mostly it just creates a creepy late-70s child-touched vibe. That's just too big a risk to take on a trend.
