The Melbourne event is actually at Sass & Bide Melbourne GPO, Bourke St (NOT Chapel St).

Blogger shesamplified said ... (1:01 AM) :

There are more than two cities in Australia, Brisbane? Adelaide? Perth? No?

Blogger the topless executive said ... (1:02 AM) :

may even venture to the south side to see you. :)

Anonymous zuccotto said ... (1:05 AM) :

Terrific photos and then you end it with coned pencil stork heels.

The sartorialist does wild heels, such fun, and then fills in spaces with pigeon toed models and even super editors.

This has been going on for years now. What is the deal, neo chinese bound feet?

I'd like to see Sart walk around on extremely high heels for a week.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:13 AM) :

Welcome back - have a great time!

Also, Melbourne University Campus and Victorian College of the Arts (St Kilda road).

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:39 AM) :

Geez Scott-- could you be any more cliché with the Sydney Opera House, the koala, the surfers and beachbunny (on Bondi Beach I assume...?), but the last image of the platform heels is SUPREME-- it's superb in its almost surreal composition: I know it's two pairs of legs crossing the street, but it also looks like one pair of legs is pushing the other pair forward! So so so deserving to be a standalone pic! Love!

Blogger Sophisticated Misfit said ... (4:24 AM) :

Welcome back, Zuccotto.

Scott, I would gladly line up at Paddington on the 8th however I just got a haircut with which I'm not too happy hence I won't show up for fear of frightening the horses. And in any case, 2-4 hours of lining up surrounded by screaming teens, little darlings and hipsters all going: "OMG!" would cause me to walk with purpose in front of a bus.

Blogger Mark M Skiba said ... (6:42 AM) :

I for one am a Melburnian who never tires of seeing the Opera House (and photographing it another hundred times) when ever I visit Sydney. So dynamic. Rather than seeing it as cliche, I look at it is the ultimate Australian expression of daring, progressive design - our own fashion triumph.

Hopefully Mr. Sartorialist will find similar inspiration on location down South, perhaps against the angles and patterns of Federation Square.

Hello, nice to hear you're coming back, and I hope you find more to tickle your lens in Melbourne than you did last time. May I recommend that you ditch yawnsome Chapel St, which is SO twenty years ago, and take a snoop around the State Library environs (heaps of uni students and very groovy Asian-inspired looks); Flinders Lane and Degraves St (art galleries, unique boutiques, cafe crowd); Carlisle St, East St Kilda (vintage, post-punk, po-mo, plus Euro-Jewish flavours); Sydney Rd, Brunswick (big artists' colony jammed up against Middle Eastern community); Gertrude St and Smith St, Fitzroy (indie designers, cyclists, gallerinas, handmade shoes)?
I just want you to have a good time here and not go away BORED!

I just returned from my first visit to Australia a few months back and I was happy to see my memories in your pictures. I recall having brunch at Icebergs (I completely forget which beach it is located on...Bondi?) but I remember simply sitting inside by the window, watching waves pound into the side of the pool. It was a very pleasant location, as I recall, because my companion spotted dolphins in the distance as well. Thank you for taking me back, if only for a moment.

Can't wait for the signing!

Anonymous Elizabeth said ... (1:09 AM) :

Yeah, um. Look, I love your work in the US and Europe, but you seem to be getting Australia really, really wrong. Fixating on semi-pornographic images of an embarrassingly superficial cliché... Koalas? Sydney opera house? (Kinda like relentless pictures of the Eiffel Tower and baguettes) Not exactly the reason why I live here.

I'm also not quite sure why you've so far avoided the good bits of Melbourne (a city of far greater beauty, complexity and depth in design). I'm not sure who told you to go to Chapel street, but that hasn't been where it's at since 1993.

Flinders Lane, Little Collins, Melbourne CBD's hidden laneways; our darkened bars; East Brunswick, North Fitzroy, Northcote, North Carlton... Follow the artists, Scott - there will you find the places that will reward you with lens-candy. The true jewels in Australia's sartorial crown.

Not that terrible sunburned touristy trash!

While living there I loved Degraves St (near Flinders Lane), as well as Chapel St. My favorites!
Don't forget St Kilda...

Anonymous Nessay said ... (6:11 PM) :

:O Oh noes, I'm going away next week! Looks like I won't be getting a book signed. ;___;

Hope you have fun in Melbourne though!

I recommend going to Degraves St. It's got awesome coffee and a really nice atmosphere. The fashion is pretty damn awesome too. Ha-ha. (So much "awesomeness". xD )

Whilst in Melbourne check out Gertrude Street in Fitzroy.( Between Brunswick and Smith St) Lots of small independent Australian Designer boutiques, Art Galleries, Vintage stores, Cafes. Very lovely and very quintessential Melbourne. My fav is Since Grey - a gallery/ fashion store.

Sydney is a "stylish" city.. I saw once a nicely dressed gentleman walking down a street in the Rocks area..It was something like 12 years ago.

Love the pool picture.

Blogger Jason said ... (4:59 PM) :

Sass & Bide? Really? They should be called "The Emperor's New Clothes". I can only assume that they are paying for some aspect of this venture. If only their design department were as large as their marketing and P.R. departments. I am extremely bored with seeing their images everywhere, swanning, posing, and saying warm fuzzy sound-bites about the environment. (meanwhile driving hideously massive petrol guzzling Range Rovers) O.K., O.K, we all get that you're really famous designers! Now go design some frocks to go with your reputations.

Anonymous Cassie said ... (6:13 PM) :

Oh I cant believe I will miss your signing! Love the shoe pic! and the little boy is so cute

Anonymous Yin said ... (6:19 AM) :

Hey Scott! Do you think you'll ever venture up to Brisbane the next time you're in the land down under? I think you'll find the place charming and the weather beautiful. Oh, plus my book is yearning for a signing!
