Stockbrokers in Sydney > Stockbrokers in NYC.

I love the high waist on the skirt! The ruffled top goes great with it too. Gorgeous!

Oh wow, totally not what I was expecting from the title! I love it when non-fashion industry people look amazing.

Beautiful lines on that skirt. Love the cuff at the elbow, too. "Course, the look in her eyes speaks volumes.

like the jewelry and face, nice. pulls of the high skirt quite well!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:31 PM) :

Pushing up the bracelet stops it from moving all over her arm. It shows she doesn't let fashion distract her or impede her movements. She seems to live in her clean, sophisticated style.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:33 PM) :

your tweet said "young stockbroker"... i didn't expect her to be so hot!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:34 PM) :

Love the bangle on her forearm, it's something very unexpected for a stockbroker. Love it

This is fantastic. She wears the quintessential high-waisted skirt, perfectly mixing professional and stylish.

Normally I hate it when women where high wastes, except for certain empire waste dresses. But this looks really nice. And let's not forget that she is a total babe.

Blogger Café Naïveté said ... (2:38 PM) :

OOOH! I absolutelly LOVE HER! It's far mostly the best look I've seen on Sartorialist. yes, for me it is, as it's so elegant and feminine and yet comfortable, suitable for every-day life and rush.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:56 PM) :

Does the blouse have sheer sleeves? Wonderful. I love her earrings as well. Anyone can wear a high-waisted skirt with the neutral black and grey combination, but the little details (and her beauty of course!) really make this look like something special.

Blogger CaféOlé said ... (2:56 PM) :

I love her style but I don´t like her shoes...

Anonymous Nicky said ... (3:07 PM) :

Love the whole ensemble. Wish I could see the bag-- it looks like one being given away at http://bit.ly/plazatooGiveaway

Blogger FairyFaye said ... (3:07 PM) :

So stylish!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:11 PM) :

Do you know how hard it is these days to find a skirt this length, JUST above the knees--when it clearly is so flattering & sensational, why don't more designers do this instead of the mini--sooooo much more easy going, professional and classy.

Blogger Piper Larson said ... (3:11 PM) :

I love it when people individualize a corporate/work look. She is doing that so well! Great pic.

How clever to capture the typical city working girl. I was going to say perfect, but all Aussie business people are just that. She has a look of absolute comfort that wold not change were she on the trading floor, shopping at lunch time, in a bar after work or standing in a crowded commuter train on the way home. Just brilliant.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:34 PM) :

Not the best shoes (yoou know that feeling when you think "damn it, I should've worn that other pair". Bet that's what she thinks now). The rest is nice; very standard, almost dated, actually.

Blogger Elena said ... (4:37 PM) :

love her shirt, so romantic!

Blogger SabinePsynopsis said ... (4:38 PM) :

I do not agree with the previous shoe comment. To me it's the shoes that make the look so interesting and 'hers' - a mixture of 80s, 40s and naughties and perfectly her own.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:42 PM) :

She looks fabulous, sweet, kind, serious and intelligent - ALL at one, not many know the trick!

But the shoes are unforgivable, they drag down the entire outfit :(

If i had seen the picture, cut of under her knees, i would have been desperate to see what kind of shoes she would match this beautiful outfit with - now, im just dissapointed.

Blogger Cardigans and Couture said ... (6:32 PM) :

I was recently in Sydney and noticed many women in high waisted pencil skirs and chic blouses. She seems very representative of the young, working woman in the city. What I also noticed, is that no matter the size of the woman, most of them had well fitting clothes. It was very refreshing.
Love the blouse!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:34 PM) :

I am really surprised this outfit is getting so much positive feedback! Obviously she is a gorgeous girl, but the outfit is pretty standard ( / sort of dated) for professional young woman in Australia, particularly as the weather warms up. (I should know, I am one!)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:35 PM) :

Pretty girl. She certainly deserves an A for effort.

Anonymous Javier Tavares said ... (6:35 PM) :

Awesome style, Awesome girl, I can´t ask for more!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:09 PM) :

I'm a little bit confused by this outfit and the comments. Everyone seems to think she is wearing a high-waisted skirt. I think she's wearing a sheath dress, but I can't see how she has the blouse tucked or attached or tied overtop. She looks good but I think largely because of the earrings (lovely!) and bracelet and because she is a pretty woman. Not sure the outfit would show as well in person as in the photo. (And definitely some prettier heels would bump this up a notch.)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:16 PM) :

that probably looked a lot better before she sat down.

I think this look ages her probably 5 to 10 years.Pretty woman, but the hairstyle can be a a bit more young.

Blogger Tiger Fodder said ... (8:20 PM) :

Wonderful outfit that fits her shape nicely. The shoes are atrocious, however.

Anonymous greendress said ... (8:44 PM) :

i think this outfit is fantastic. when i think of women's dress suits or even professional clothing, i am filled with dread. most have a boxy nature that i would reject. i am a woman and i want to feel like a woman even if i am in a man's world.

it hits every note: feminine, comfortable yet professional. as for the talk of her shoes: do we all have to look perfect. this outfit is great and as someone said earlier -what if they are her favorite pair of work heels. shoes are sometimes discontinued...

Simple, classy outfit. I like it. Especially her choice of unusual jewelry to go with it. Now, if only some genius would invent a fabric that doesn't get sitting down creases in front...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:03 PM) :

is that an Hermes enamel bangle? (one of the wide ones) I have the pink and gold, and I think they made a black and gold as well.
The gold of the earrings and bangle with the grey and black work well, and are more of a surprise than silver.
I have my doubts about the shoes as well!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:52 AM) :

i think her outfit is nothing too special, it is what you see alot of in cbd melbourne, sure the bangle and earing add a little something extra and it is a well fitted outfit but i dont think the clothes themselves are amazing. but i dont think The Sartorialist is about clothes, it is about style, and she has plenty of that. it is the air of grace she has and the way her hair is so perfectly imperfect. you can not buy style.

Anonymous whereisthecool? said ... (2:53 AM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:56 AM) :

I too think it's a very typical look for Sydney and therefore ho-hum. What brings her up a notch is a very pretty face, framed by soft hair and lovely earrings. I think too, that you can tell a lot about a woman by her shoes...and in this case her bracelet and those 2 little rings on her fingers.

I have often seen Sydneysiders in sun dresses and the like at the office, and somehow it just works. They're able to bring the big city and beach vibe together in a really modern way. I love how she looks like she works for a fashion magazine. Just because she's a stockbroker doesn't mean she can't have STYLE.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:39 AM) :

Actually quite surprised to see this posted.

She is very pretty and looks nice, but nothing fashion-forward or partcularly interesting about the look. There are hundreds of girls like this in the Sydney CBD daily (which I guess is a compliment to Sydney generally...)

Blogger The Paper Boat Blog said ... (8:44 AM) :

If I say this is full of curves, it sounds voluptuous which this is not. The straight seam down the thigh and the horizontal of the hem are contrasted to the curves of her hip, leg, waistband, sleeves, cheekbones, earrings, hair and even the way the shoe wraps her foot. I need to get back to work.

I'm in love!

Her outfit really works for me. I love the colour combination here: very professional, and understated. Viewers are drawn to her beautiful face, eyes, chestnut hair (the colour of fine whiskey), earrings, and bangle.

I work in the same industry, and I can tell you that she looks better than 99% of the stockbrokers in my office.

Anonymous nadia said ... (12:03 PM) :

gorgeous girl and nice outfit, but it's too cookie cutter. there's nothing shocking in how she's dressed. ideally, professional women would dress like her and look like her. i don't know why this is on here. this is entirely expected and predictable. i thought this blog's for unexpected, extraordinary things.

an attractive stockbroker who dresses well is nothing mind-blowing. she's not breaking any fashion barriers.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:03 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:03 PM) :

Blogger Lou said ... (12:12 PM) :

Like a few others have, I've noticed a remarkable similarity to the girl in the prior photo and can't get passed the thought: is she or isn't she (the same woman)??

I love the pussy bow blouse and the puffy short sleeve, and the slightly 'oriental' touch with the earrings and bracelet. The shoes are excellent - she can walk in them, fast paced if necessary, they're elegant while conservative (perfect for her workplace) and have a nice eighties feel to them. If this is her warm weather work attire, I say brava. It can hardly be improved upon.

But Scott tell us please: is she or isn't she?

How can she look so flawless and work such a stressful job as a stockbroker? It is a phenomenon! The outfit seems uncomfortable for a sit-all-day job. This slim fit doesn't leave room for constant snacks in the office, either. I applaud her for being amazing!

I love it when your posts are of people whose style is attainable. This look is clean, fresh and ageless. Any woman could achieve this look and take it extremely high to very low end! Options, we love options!

Very nice. She has a clean, polished no fuss look for a sunny day. She looks "smartly" dressed. Hair has flair but not in face. Earrings are sexy without interfering. High waist skirt accentuates the positive. Nicely done.

I must be out of the inner cool group of fashion people but what's wrong with her shoes?? She works in a conservative industry - those seem fine for everyday workwear to me. Is she supposed to be wearing crazy platforms?? I just don't get all the shoe comments.

High waisted pencil skirts with feminine blouses are my go-to "have to look professional" today outfit. Aaaamazing. And I like her shoes, darnit--and I like that they're a bit scuffed. Shows she gets things done instead of sitting around looking pretty.

everything about this outfit is fantastic. she is a class act.

I should relocate my activities in Sydney... great outfit, great look

This photo shows the clear problem with this type of skirt - you can't sit down at a computer without turning into a wrinkly mess. Even though she looks lovely, it is definitely a more 'real' loveliness than you usually photograph.

it looks....totally mediocre

It helps that she's so pretty because this is a totally standard corporate outfit for sydney and even brisbane. I do like the bangle but the rest is pretty much what you'd see all around you every lunch hour.

Blogger alastair said ... (6:44 PM) :

She's got me feeling "irrationally exuberant"!

sorry couldn't resist! but seriously, it might not be the most fashion forward ensemble ever, but she has a great style.

All the girls in Sydney dress like this... doesn't seem to me like personal style. Would have preferred an open shoe.

Very pretty girl though.

Haha i know her!!
She looks great!

i;m going to try big earrings more often!

Love the contrast between the ruffly top and clean high waisted skirt. Chic!

I don't think those who are confused about this post fully understand the Sart's approach to selecting his subjects...

He's stated many times in interviews that his images aren't there to depict latest trends, or huge fashion statements, or the 'beautiful people', but simply to capture a look that the particular person is doing 'really well'. Outfits or styles that are well put together, whether they're boundary pushing or quietly chic. I love that about this blog.

This partcular image fits in perfectly as it fits the criteria: this young lady is doing the classy-corporate-woman-thing REALLY well. Although, yes, many people pull this look off every day, there are many who do not, and this image can be an inspiration to those who see their corporate position as a style black hole.

An another note, it was a joy to meet you last night at GPO Scott, you are a true gentleman! So friendly and polite, you made waiting in line very worthwhile. I hope you enjoy your time in Melbourne!

SO right ANON from Syd, nice but totally dated for sydney business wear... (could buy this all at Cue and Witners, on the very same street she's on, Pitt st.) YAWN!

But given the no. of positive comments she's got. Maybe things are different OS?!

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:25 AM) :

Love her outfit.

Congrats for your blog!

Best wishes, form Argentina!

Anonymous Georgina Kate said ... (1:01 AM) :

I absolutely love this look.
Some might consider it 'dated' but it really can't be dated. There is no time in history where this would look fashionable, polished, and oh so classy.

I adore the outfit as a whole and never think it will go out of style.

The combo of romanticism and classy/business-like make it perfect for every scenario. LoveLoveLove!

IT SEEMS SO! GREAT SHIRT.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:16 AM) :

She's quite a lovely girl and the outfit is nice enough, but it wouldn't stop me on the street- pretty common and I have to agree with previous commenters that it's a bit dated.

She still has my admiration for keeping her feminine side while working in a rather male-dominated industry.
