My best friend is an accountant in California-- she'll be thrilled that there's more proof out there that accountants can be cute!

Blogger Leah said ... (11:15 AM) :

She is so pretty... love her sweet smile.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:15 AM) :

love the shrunken blazer...but a miniskirt? hardly work appropriate for an accountant..

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:16 AM) :

Wow! These gals in conservative and hands-on (yesterday's horticulturalist) careers dress so stylish, young and sexy! You won't see an account dressed as hip as this gal in fashion forward NYC! Maybe it's the warm climate and the attitude down under?

Wow! Business casual sure is a lot more palatable, down under. Wouldn't it be great if E&Y would institute a similar dress code? :)

scott- i met you in dallas, and you asked what i do. i told you i'm an accountant.

let me follow up with this fact: no accountant looks like this in the u.s.

end of comment.

Anonymous Scott P. said ... (11:25 AM) :

Dear Lord, if this is how the accounting and financial community dresses down there I may have to start finding excuses to go Down Under for business.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:26 AM) :

how cute! Only someone that tiny could wear such a tiny skirt & get away with it.

Blogger Vinda Sonata said ... (11:27 AM) :

yay. first commentator here :) i'm such a big fan of this blog. ♥

she looks very elegant.
the layering is very smart--look at the combination between cropped blazer+oversized shirt+ miniskirt. she surely knows how to dress! ;)

i don't know if the way you shoot the girls and boys in sydney or it is the fact, but they all looked so carefree, stylish and cheerful! this is definitely one of my fave shot for documentary quality - picture in motion is just so much more natural!!! xx

Love the angle and motion of the shot! She is beautiful.

And people with real jobs DO dress this well in NYC, but perhaps in the business world here it is unacceptable to wear a mini skirt to the office. Women have this thing about being taken seriously.

Skirt's a bit short, but it's all gorgeous. My favorite thing about her is the eyebrows. Full dark eyebrows FTW.

Very cute girl, nice simple outfit (but for work?), WOAH girl! You have a great body but you can't be wearing a little miniskirt like that to the office o_O

It's a bit too casual, I don't know... It's possible to dress professionally but still be sexy, why doesn't anyone comment on that?

This is such a pure shot of breezy young single womanhood. Heavenly.

Blogger foxy jo said ... (1:46 PM) :

something tells me she isn't wearing the short skirt to the office and that perhaps she is carefree because she doesn't need to be in the office. nonetheless, workday or not, if i ever get stopped by you guys i hope that this is the expression i'm wearing. you know what i'm talking about, that "to hell with it i'm gorgeous" face. or perhaps maybe i should just move to sydney.

Anonymous Christopher said ... (1:47 PM) :

She's an accountant?

Does she have a boyfriend?

I'll move to Sydney to marry and accountant that looks like that

Anonymous John Taylor said ... (1:52 PM) :

Aussie rules! It seems that Aussie style is making for some sour grapes and envy. She is neither trashy or any of the other epiphets drirected her way. Considering her look and her job someone took her seriously as well. Enough with the drear grey body armour of the 'professional class' its pretension and covers for many sins of omission and worse give me really skill and style and that smile any day of the work week, and double on weekends! lol! Oh and yes torn between wow, great photo, smile, legs as well. So kind of you to get it all in one post

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:53 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:54 PM) :

Blogger nur said ... (1:56 PM) :

fell in love with the jacket! it's in my wishlist now:)

Blogger kaś said ... (1:58 PM) :

I like how she's been caught in the moment. Not really a fan of the skirt (too clingy and stretchy), but I love the top half of the outfit as well as her fresh, makeup-free complexion.

this photo is like a fresh breeze--I agree with the previous poster about the wonderful movement of this picture. Very cute!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:33 PM) :

I am changing my accountants. Can you tell me where she works?

Anonymous Lil M said ... (2:54 PM) :

I work for a Big4 accounting firm in Melbourne; our (female) dress code does seem quite relaxed compared to the rest of the business community, e.g. the young stockbroker's and accountant's styles are typical of any young woman in any corporate role, though the length of this accountant's skirt is less common.

A big fan of this shot. Love the tones, the blazer cut. Looks like it might have taken a few takes too - great effort!

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:59 PM) :

thats the cutest accountant i have ever seen

Blogger the nickel fit said ... (3:24 PM) :

This must be said. Accountants surprisingly have the best sense of style.

Many in the fashion/advertising/legal industry all too easily latch onto trends, while the cerebral accountant always mutes down a trend to keep a classic, simple, and effortless look.

Anonymous Emily said ... (3:35 PM) :

this is my favourite style at the moment: short blazer, miniskirt, casual grey T-shirt... efortless chic :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:37 PM) :

There's some Monica Bellucci in that face ... !! :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:46 PM) :

It's Sydney, it's hot, it's almost Christmas and she is relaxed and stylish and laid back. People dress totally differently here and are not as hung up on what is 'appropriate'. Why isn't a short skirt OK? This is why australia is so great!

Blogger anthony said ... (3:53 PM) :

Great jacket. A thin, silver chain around her neck might look nice. Accountant? You kidding?

Blogger Richard said ... (3:53 PM) :

I need an accountant!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:10 PM) :

Know this girl and NO she is not going to the office dressed like this. She is on a day off.... sorry guys...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:14 PM) :

Cute girl and I love the jacket, but the rest is kind of wack. The ruching on the sides of the super short skirt makes it look more appropriate for a club than for business. The poor quality of the t-shirt doesn't help.

Blogger Whitney said ... (4:20 PM) :

This pretty lady looks so much like someone I know who is financing it up in San Francisco. Come to the West Cost! People have style, I promise!

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (4:30 PM) :

maybe she is an accountant at a fashion company?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:42 PM) :

amazing look. and amazing legs.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:47 PM) :

Concerning the short skirt dilemma:

First of all, the girl looks great, that is undeniable. She's fresh faced and the shot is terrific.

Now, being more professional does not mean being covered head to toe or wearing shoulder pad jackets and old grandma shoes. She's not 'trashy' by ANY means nor I'd say 'inappropriate' but when you work in the business field, come on, you just do not wear a skirt (which seems to be the tight short American Apparel kind) short enough that if you bend over, a client/coworkers/superiors can see everything. This is just common sense. Obviously it's warm in Australia right now, but I think if she wore tights it'd be a lot better.

Be sexy, go for it, but there's a limit in the work field. Take that gorgeous stockbroker two photo's down for example.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:55 PM) :

I would go down-under for her anytime.

Blogger Brigadeiro said ... (4:55 PM) :

Maybe it was casual Friday? :)

Blogger alastair said ... (4:58 PM) :

Surely that skirt is NSFW?? haha!

Blogger Caroline said ... (5:01 PM) :

pretty standard...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:02 PM) :

I was just about to say that Scott. People, don't assume all Australian accountants dress like this. Conservative, high profile firms that adhere to a strict dress code is commonplace. It depends what field you're working in. The arts/fashion industry has always been more relaxed about individual style. Add to that the heat wave we've been experiencing lately, and voila - short skirt.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:04 PM) :

why is everyone assuming she's on her way to work? everyone in the states has work on the BRAIN! just lovely...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:06 PM) :

If I had a set of pin's like that, I wouldn't bother wearing a skirt at all.

As for all those comments that suggest the length of her skirt means she can't be taken seriously at work... I mean really, where are all you people from? Definitely NOT Sydney.

Anonymous nadia said ... (5:19 PM) :

absolutely terrific

you can have a "serious" job, dress individually, and still be taken "seriously"

and for those that say she wouldnt be taken seriously, only because theyve got preconceived notions about attractiveness

and

too much seriousness in life makes life much more complicated-seeming that it is

youve done splendidly scott

i adore this picture

Blogger trulymadlydeeply said ... (5:37 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:52 PM) :

Oh no, that's nearly DSYC territory, for sure. That skirt is chochatastic. It's a shame; she's so cute.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:53 PM) :

OMG! I love the fact that she is a professional with amazing style. I just graduated from Law School, perhaps I should practice law in Sydney so I can wear fab clothes!!!!! Instead of drab suits!

Blogger Cari said ... (5:53 PM) :

i highlyyyyy doubt that woman was going to work.

Anonymous AliB said ... (6:14 PM) :

People are writing that she should be wearing something more work appropriate?

Even though Australia is fairly laid back, odds are she is at play, not at work . . . (as with The Horticulturalist - I doubt she wears a leather mini dress to plant rooftop gardens).

Would kill for those legs and love the monochromatic colour scheme.

Blogger Brittany & Cassie said ... (6:17 PM) :

Oh, she's fresh and pretty, love her smile!

XoXO, Cassie.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:17 PM) :

If you have a decent body and your under the age of 35, flaunt it!

P.S.
I'm not saying that just because I am older, I'm 17.

Blogger Plus Belle Ma Vie said ... (6:20 PM) :

She's goergeous, pretty and fresh !
Great picture, Scott !

Blogger Emily McGuire said ... (6:40 PM) :

Why is everyone assuming that just because she is an accountant that she is on her way to work?! I see no briefcase people!.

Proportions of the blazer compliment her lean figure perfectly; those legs legs legs! Texture of the skirt subdued by the black is also great I feel; she looks like she just walked off an Alexander Wang show Australian-style.

Please have a peep at my blog...

This is a stunning pic of an absolutely stunning subject. Love her hair and her minimal make-up, I seriously covet the blazer and the watch (and legs)

She pulls it off perfectly, though I doubt she's on her way to the office- I've never seen a professional wear a skirt like that. I'm sure she looks just as gorgeous in her regular workwear.

I love that hint of green at the top of the shot.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:45 PM) :

Yeah, this is interesting. I'm an economist, so I appreciate that a woman can have a "man's" job and be feminine and attractive. Still, I do hope she wasn't going to work in that outfit! The plain fact is that it still is sufficiently difficult for women to be taken seriously in traditionally male jobs and so women who dress noticed sexually at work are not with the potential for sexual notice are not doing the rest of us any favours (I have a colleague I would love to cover up on occasion...)

Australia is an interesting mix. I lived there for a couple of years and since I was in a diplomatic job I obviously was not dressed like that for work. I had forgotten this until today but I remember that when I first moved there I was surprised at how short the skirts were that women sometimes wore to work.

I don't know. Some might think it's cool and empowering, and I know that Australia can be hot, but I prefer a more conservative look for work. After work...different story.

What I haven't seen in your Australia posts is what I personally thought Australians do uniquely well in fashion. I'm thinking of things with a bit of an Asian influence - assymetrics, loose, natural-fibre clothing. I saw some absolutely gorgeous women when I was in Melbourne in particular who were rocking terrific shapes linens, for example, (which I rarely wear here in North America). I suppose you have depicted that one girl in the soft, neutral dress a couple of posts below. Hmm...Will be interested to see what you come up with from here!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:52 PM) :

wow! truly a dreamgirl. Style, carrier and she's beautiful

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:59 PM) :

love her smile and her top part but i think the bottom is too short- at the office or at the club.

Blogger Couture Coco said ... (1:04 PM) :

She's got a beautiful face and figure. Love the jacket and confidence BUT not liking the belt that slipped down......surely not for work?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:09 PM) :

Who knows if this is a work outfit or not but people shouldn't define how they dress by their jobs or careers!!!

She looks awesome!

Anonymous Devi-Collection.com said ... (1:37 PM) :

chick and energic young girl.... love her fashion style.

I am connecting through New York as I type... I think I'm trading in my ticket for Sydney. I don't even care if she can add.

This shot has great movement and what a cute blazer.

Anonymous em said ... (4:16 PM) :

There were some comments in here that her outfit is inappropriate for the workplace. Your right.

However 11th nov was a friday and here in australia we have 'casual fridays' where we can turn up to work in casual wear, not all companies do this though.

she looks fab!

Blogger Athene Greig said ... (4:28 PM) :

The movement you've captured is beautiful. She is gracefully dressed in a contemporary way.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:34 PM) :

yikes, what a knockout. great shot!

Blogger lizpr said ... (4:40 PM) :

Hapa power! (This girl is clearly half-Asian. As am I.) :D

Blogger Deaton Jones said ... (5:07 PM) :

I think this photo is focused more on how pretty the person is rather than her style. If we focus on her style, there's not a whole lot to say other than the fact that her skirt is a bit to short for a professional if she was on her way to work. It just doesn't seem like this takes that much to put together or make look good, neither of which should attributed to any photo that is meant to represent style or fashion.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:43 PM) :

she is beautiful and has such a great sense of style. i love everything about this outfit and what i feel brings it all together is her smile. it shows she is proud to be herself and knows she looks good. and she has just enough jewelry on. sorry have to say it again she is beautiful.

quoting -

"The Sartorialist is my daily antidote to newspaper and outside world insanity."

On this, I can only say "you're kidding". Much is fatuous in this blog, but at the same time, some isn't.

I read this too, and enjoy it - I try very hard not to post yet again about my entire distaste for the fad of pigeon toes.

I'm older - and I wore miniskirts to work as a scientist in the early seventies. Maybe not that mini. I do think it takes away power in the long run, if, indeed she is on her way to work.

I gather this is news in Sydney.

Ok everyone settle down, she clearly isn't dressed for work! You can still say what you do for a living when you're on your day off. She is on oxford street, paddington, a shopping street, so she is probably chilling, not on a work break!

Blogger This said ... (6:23 PM) :

Well, she would just look pretty in anything.

Blogger Angelica said ... (6:35 PM) :

simply and chic..i like it.

Blogger Ennie said ... (6:46 PM) :

Miniskirt? Maybe it was her day off.

Regardless, she looks lovely in this casual getup + blazer to dress things up. If only I had legs like those too.

Blogger Unknown said ... (7:16 PM) :

I don't know if she uses that kind of outfit for work, but if she does... that miniskirt is kinda cheap and bitchy for a professional.

Blogger vinh! said ... (7:33 PM) :

This is probably my all time favorite look on this page. They way she's dressed, the smile, the "action" shot. Everything is just absolutely perfect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:00 PM) :

Australia! Professional life is hot. I don't like the way they have rings on their index finger though.

Blogger StuddedLilly said ... (8:22 PM) :

this is super chic. love the energy of the photo!

Blogger Paolo Manaloto said ... (8:30 PM) :

wow she sure is beautiful

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:45 PM) :

Why all this reverence for "The Office"??? I haven't seen many dressed for "work" lately who wear nice clothes. Rather cute and chic than drab Dockers and muffin tops.

Blogger Jenny said ... (12:10 AM) :

why are so many people commenting on the fact that she's an accountant? your occupation shouldn't determine your style (or your life for that matter)

she looks gorgeous!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:10 AM) :

if i were that age & had that petite figure, i'd wear a skirt like that on my day off too. the skirt looks like another layer. great.

Anonymous pinkpajamas said ... (1:15 AM) :

You know what the last few photos make me think? I think that the US is very behind the times with corporate dress codes. It's really refreshing that elsewhere, people can express themselves and be comfortable and professional at the same time. I just quit a job because I had to wear pantyhose under everything. Who or what can change this, and when? Sart, sic'em!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:02 AM) :

I really like the cropped blazer with the grey shirt and the black skirt. Seems to work really well. I am jealous of Australian weather right now. Must be glorious.

Blogger Jen said ... (3:48 AM) :

I'm an accountant also and I live in San Francisco and dress similarly. I can't get away with a skirt quite that short...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:36 AM) :

her face is so Uzbeki...beautiful.

Saida

Blogger C'est Moi: Just another 20-something said ... (5:49 AM) :

She's dressed like that because it's Casual Friday- not sure if it's done overseas, but in Australia, Friday's the day where you get to come into work a little more relaxed- because you know, TGIF!!

Anonymous Amara said ... (7:34 AM) :

Wow She's so beautiful. I love her jacket!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:02 AM) :

i live in australia and there is no way this girl was on her way to or from work, it must have been her day off. her attire is not acceptable for an accountant.
she looks beautiful though! amazing photo!

Blogger Ashman Mahfudz said ... (8:20 AM) :

she is beautiful:D

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:38 AM) :

To Jeffery,

That is not true, I know plenty of fashion forward accountants in NYC. Maybe because NYC big accounting firms have strict policy of dress code all year round.

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:10 AM) :

pretty smile:)
