Verizon Global Gentleman or the Sainthood of Garance Dore
I don't know if any of you have seen these Verizon Global Gentleman ads that began running in GQ back in September.
It was a really fun project that Garance and I shot over the Summer in Milan, Paris, Australia and London.
I have to admit I'm happy with how the shots turned out... but poor Garance.
No photographer ever wants to shoot another photographer. Let alone your boyfriend who is a photographer.
I couldn't help it, just as she was about to shoot I would keep saying... is that the angle you're going to take???..... back light, really??.... does my hair make my face look fat???
Local florists became quite wealthy after each of these shots.
Sorry G.

Scott, you are hilarious. No wonder Garance loves you. : )
That poor girl. I know she probably wanted to smack you upside your head but it would mess up your hair for the shot.
Very nice ad. And they picked the right man for the job. Thanks for explaining Milan. I've never actually loved it and always want to be elsewhere when I'm there.... like Venice for Florance.
Lucky Garance...
If I had to shoot such a handsome subject, I'd make all kinds of excuses to take "bad-shots" so I could keep shooting all day! :)
Your fan from Fort Lee, NJ
Ahahahahaha!
If she took that photo, then she did an awesome job. As usual.
you really made me laugh hard with this post. it just means you work really well together.
Haha I can only imagine! But it came out great! She did a fine job!
You're very handsome and debonair. Garance did a wonderful job and I love the tid bit on Milan.

This is a fabulous shot! and you look wonderful, too. Trust the lady. The movement of the jacket is practically divine intervention.
LOL! Know what you mean... both my husband and I are photography teachers and we're always second-guessing each other...but we do have some awesome pics of our children ;)
'No, your hair doesn't makes you look fat.'
Any girl (any pearson really) should know this is the way to answer the question.
Hahaha! Sainte Garance, priez pour nous... Top notch!
The photo looks great! you two are the cutest couple ever!!

Thank you for the snapshots and peeks into style and romance, sometimes small and graceful other times overwhelming like and unexpected kiss.
Garance and Scott dating? High Fashion Couple Heaven! As the Sartorialist himself would say, "I love when style travels in pairs."
Hahaha~ This was really sweet~
I do not know which one I like better; you in the photo, the ad, and amazing capture by Garance.
Hahahahaha! hilarious, Garance did an amazing job and you look impeccable, well done!
MM x
poor Garance indeed! but really, you look really handsome and suave in this picture.

Who makes that suit you're wearing?
Oh good God.
This is perfect.
I haven`t met you, but it seemes you have a good sense of humor! It should be nice working with you. By the way, congratulate Garance. I liked the picture.
LOL! Great shot, and fantastic ads. kudos to Garance.
you guys are too cute really! I want to see more of you both together!!!!
sigh...a man in a suit and a fabulous one a that...the suit or the man?
I HAVE seen these ads. You look so dapper.
I don't know where I've been~oh yea in Oklahoma~ I did not know you two were a couple. I can see it now that I think about it! You two make perfect sense! I love your photo...you are very handsome!!!

Scott You are a true fashion icon
With love from South Africa
I love this -- both the photograph and the story. Thanks for sharing, Scott!
this is sweet.... I laughed.
A very ok picture of you, Maybe even the best one I have seen, but then I really have not seen so many ; ) !
Milan has its own hidden beauty that you seek out. One of my favorite cities by far.
The shot is perfect, fear not.
Something James Bondy like in this photo. I am a fan.
the conversation in the one ad with your kids is hilarious. i'm glad you can blend the lines of art and advertising with your work. -from a graphic designer.
Scott, you look gorgeous! I mean really gorgeous and gentleman-like. Big up to Garance :D
This was the most charming 'Sorry' post! She captured you beautifully; and the suit is sublime.
Well, if you don't have the right to be fussy about how you look when you're about to appear in a national ad campaign, when DO you have the right to be fussy about your appearance?
But she did a great job. You're hot. Just saying. :]
She did an awsome job. Congratulations to the both of you. Cheers!
Too funny, she did a great job, you look great Scott and she deserved all the flowers! :--)
It really is true, photographers hate being photographed!
Hahah Anon "The movement of the jacket is practically divine intervention." amazing! & true.
The Sartorialist and Garance?? Why did I not know this?! Gotta love it :)
You two sound so adorable.
Great shot, Garance! You should have told Scott his face makes his hair look fat. He would have totally relaxed.
Scott you look absolutely amazing here!
'Local florists became quite wealthy..'
awww... lucky G!
Garance did such a superb job (of course!). The final result is brilliant!
xx
but look at the shot and how the right flap of your jacket poofs up in an awkward position. a good shot otherwise.
Great shot - you look fantastic! Having previously written Milan off as a place I "have to" go for business but nothing more, I'll give it another chance and explore more of the outskirts.

u look so serious scottie , :) !
Scott, you have to be pleased with this photo - you look yummy ! Bravo Garance!
I wish I could engage in such amusing quarrels. It's too bad I'm studying fashion and my boyfriend is studying engineering.... *sigh*
There is nothing amusing about machinery.
Any know what sort of suit Scott is wearing? Solid black is one of those colours that either look really good or really cheap as a suit...the deep V in the chest make this one a winner!
wait, garance and scott are an item?
You look good :)
And I'm so happy for all the opportunities you've gotten. Truly deserving of each and every one of them.
"Boyfriend"? Was that the word that I read? A-DOR-ABLE!
Looking mighty sexy there, Sart. Very dapper. :)
hawt. very james bond of you.
How funny! Wonderful shot though...very GQ:)

Clearly, the both of you are quite aesthetically blessed.
"The Sartorialist and Garance?? Why did I not know this?! Gotta love it :)"
Ditto! I'm all cheerful! What a way to make the announcement! Brangelina, eat your heart out!
At least you sent her flowers! LOL. Now you need to talk to my B/F over to Pole Hill Sanitarium and give him step to step instructions on that one!
scott?? and garance?? how come i never realised it before? earlier? or is it the first time you ever shared the story between you and garance?? Gosh, i'm thrilled! happy for both of you! i bet you guys are the coolest photographer couple in the world! :)
Hot!
Love the movement of the jacket as well! And I truly believe humor is the core to any relationship, which you both clearly have. Although flowers never go amiss no matter how many good laughs are shared :)

very double o7.
Garance's capture is a very pleasing representation of you.
I'm not a pro and I still drive my husband crazy when I dare let him take a photo of me! but I guess one knows his/her angles best. funny.
wow, i also didnt know you two are a couple...you are perfect together and i love your blogs. you guys have such a great sense of humour. both of you make me laugh with your stories...wish you all the best all the way from sunny south africa...mona

Hey Scott, I just cyber-smacked you over the back of the head for Garance. She did an amazing job - great pic Garance! :)
Garance can take my picture anytime.
:)
haha that is so cute :-) great photo on the ad though, and your face doesnt look fat or anything like that. i love anything in italy, regular flyer to milan and yes it might not be rome but it has its own charm!!
Cute !
Great photo although it looks like you did get into 'a bit of a flap' over it.
I checked out Verizon's Global Gentleman site and burst out laughing when I read your essentials for London - "Willies and a brolly."
so funny, 'does my hair make my face look fat.' thanks for keeping the humour going.
Omg, you look so sexy!
Congratulations to Garance, who did a great job, as usual.
And I think she will have thanked you for being such a nice and relexed model!!!
your sense of humour is so similar with garance and it's the first time you let us in on this
Hahahahahaha! Well the end result was worth it I'm sure :).
I hadn't seen the ads ... but they are wonderful - even more so with the backstory. Very well done to both of you. :)
you are lucky you had such a talented photographer to shoot you! but then again, the shots you have posted of Garance are equally talented... you obviously make a perfect pair! love the shot, you remind me of james bond here. Hx
Great job, Garance and keep those flowers coming!
Scott has a vintage je-ne-sais-quoi (the haircut?), but also you look so typical american! Dating a french girl is a very good things...
Peace & Love
Great shot - nice suit!
Thanks for saying that about Milan, still not an international city, but surely a gem of (life)style.
M
Goodness, you handsome devil!
Garance has done a very good job. You look great. I guess verizon can record a large inflow.
haha...you should learn how to be a model sometime and trust the photograher, gentleman!

Awesome shot.
I especially like the angle and fluidity of the jacket.
