Describe your personal style
Shambolic
I build my daily look around
An emotion
Personal Style quirk?
Prairie tomboy meets Parisian chic
Favorite designers?
Martin Margiela, Marni, Dries Van Noten, Jil Sander, YSL
The first thing I look at in another Sartorialist's outfit ...
Balance of silhouette and the pairing of fabric textures.
Favorite stores?
Opening Ceremony is great and I love Maryam Nassir Zadeh in the Lower East Side, if I had a store that's what I'd want it to look like. Their presentation and store merchandising is so colorful, well thought out and inspiring, not at all stuffy.
Most stylish city?
Paris, because the women have a sense of effortlessness to their style and they're not afraid to wear color. I also love Copenhagen's streetwear.
Favorite vacation spot?
I don't really take vacations, but I used to live in Florence and I miss it all the time. I'm hoping to go back very soon...
Favorite cocktail?
I don't drink cocktails but I love a good whiskey on the rocks.
Favorite place to search for inspiration?
Vintage markets in Paris
I spend my weekends…
At brunch with my boyfriend, and reading magazines in the bathtub.

What a great feature, its nice to know some more about the interesting people you shoot!
I loved her look in the first picture!
Mm not sure about the denim on denim, but the second look asserts a keen eye in layering. Lovely!
Love the brilliant layering in the 2nd picture!
xx
That denim-on-denim look is absolute PERFECTION. She's quite talented!

I'm not a fan of the Canadian tuxedo but I love the second look, especially the loose trousers.

gorgeous outfits! Cool interview =)

Love her style, a true ode to 'Shambolic'
Magazines in bathtub-something I do as well. (Well you wouldnt want to drop a novel in the water would you??)
1 question: where can one get lace up boots like in the 2nd photo.. they are just what I am looking for
Only buy chocolate in Europe? :O well... when you arrived to Madrid we'll show you.
I love her shoes!!
Oh yes, please include more of these profiles. So great to see inside of these cool people too!
great pictures, i love!!

I love the hat and the scarves.
adorable
Oh -- Thank you for doing one of these. This reminds me of your posts way back in the day.
she is very natural, which I like...
marry me!
oh i love her style! fantastic!
The jeans to lace booties look is very much the fashionista choice of the moment, yet somehow still feels original because the Target's and H&M's of the world haven't picked it up. She's quite cute.
xx
Annie Hall 2010
Really interesting to learn a little about the people you shoot!
So funny! The jeans shirt, 501s rolled up as capris was the look of the moment, for a moment, back in the late 80s.
i would like to switch job with her for a day. i wonder how it feels like. it would be nice. good feature.

Wow~! We are ready for a walk~!

love her style, nice interview!
I like this feature & her pants.
Lady knows how to dress [although I agree with some of the above, I'm not entirely sold on the denim ensemble], but perhaps could take a tip on whiskey: leave the rocks on the street. Whiskey's best flavors come out at room temp!
Hey, that denim on denim is questionable but she kinds works it. Like the second look, v. nice.

I LOVE HER BROWN SHOES
Her outfit with the vintage jeans and chambray shirt is burned into my brain-- I love dressing like that, and she pulls it off with such effortlessness and grace! Thanks for the styleprofile of her.
Hey! She's got Garance's dream hat!
I love the mostly masculine feel of her clothing yet with feminine touches such as red lipstick and heels. I am drawn to this sense of style because of the casual attitude of the clothes, yet the overall look is so on point. A wonderful mixture of neutrals. She looks comfortable which exudes confidence. A perfect example of how a woman doesn't need a short skirt and sky high heels to look fantastic.
awww! i love dianna!!
what is the 2nd lipcolor? love it!
I like that she listens to her emotions when building a look : self expression and all that...
Interesting profile
Big Jeans are the look
http://www.sourgrapesclothing.com/
I really like the second outfit, I love layered looks!
This post I enjoy very much because I always find myself wondering about the thoughts and feelings of the people in your photos who we usually only get to see for a single moment.
interesting and funny sometimes.
Great questions/ Powerful answers.
Love the second look because like Dianna says : Prairie tomboy meets Parisian chic. And i love style for that: be casual pieces with powerful accessories or fabrics to be elegant.
Same shoes in black and brown? I like them.
Gorgeous skin.
I love their sassy relaxed styles.
See , it makes a huge difference if your hair is up or down.
Luv it

Nice !
Beautiful light on your photos

The 1st photo is one of my favorites (because of the different blues, her pose, the mixing of fabrics, NY cabs behind her...), so great to get to know a little bit about her! I love her shoes
love this. look forward to reading more style profiles.
Wow! Just amazing <3
Dianna!!!!!!!
Looking lovely, as usual....
xoxo.
how can I be this person?
i like a girl who loves a good whiskey! her style's so great too..

She is so right about Parisian women! Like we all know from Garance:
http://fashioncoup.com/fashion_heroines/garance-dore/
Great great post! I love it. Sometimes pictures stand for themselves but it is also nice to get a little insight into the person's life. Will there be more?
We've seen the first look before, right? Or is it just me?
Well anyway, i adoree the denim look and i am so inredibly jealous about how effortless those outfits look on her. Also, i am in complete agreement with her when she mentions that she looks for the shape of the silhouette.
She really pulls off the denim-on-denim well. The boots and hat top off the look well for an intentionally clashing look.

Great style, her outfits really are compositions!!!
nice pic..
a hello from singapore! nice to surf into your blog

Oh lovely, I love reading interviews about what influences peoples style and where they like to shop! Great feature! Would love to see something like this again. And as for that girl, great style!
http://sequinsandbangles.blogspot.com
love the trousers <3
She looks like Sofia Coppola.
Last week I was in NYC and this look is very true to the trend of the street. Loved it!
Kisses from Spain
what a great personality
Double denim is hard to do. I'm not confident at all at even trying it. Still, the boots and hat quirkify it enough. I much prefer the second look with the neutral layering. Exemplary fall style in this comfortable yet elegant outfit.
My kind of style. I just can't understand the mania for such enormous scarves around the neck, they are not flattering at all, too much volume on the upper part of the body.
Loves her first look!
Sart:
I thought for a moment you were recycling your old shots, we have seen the first photo about a year ago? Sorry to have doubted you - that is a wonderful profile. She loves whiskey on the rocks . . . oh my!
I know nothing about photography, but do you notice that on overcast days you can see details in patterns and color much better than on days with blaring sunlight?
I love the boots in the first photo - does anyone know where they are from?
Great Style Profile
this first shot is one of my all-time faves so i loved this. she's so cool!
I thought she was Molly Ringwald when I first saw the first photo. But in the second photo, she doesn't look like MR at all.
Love the feature! More of those please:) I love the background for some reason..I dunno..I want to move to the big city..HEHEHE..one day.
http://loveyourfabulousself.blogspot.com/
Put a necktie on and she'd be Annie Hall...
I love the first photo. It inspired me to get yet another blue shirt.
The second outfit is absolutely stunning and the photo itself is perfect.
http://fashionroadkill-halifax.blogspot.com
I love the Q&A. MORE OF THESE... P L E A S E.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK...
yay! i love Copenhagen street style too!! and i think she's managed to capture it a bit in her second look.
The hat, the hair and the lipstick -- what a wonderful triptych. From the neck down, though, is not impressive. Her shirt and jeans do her a disservice. She could do better.
Color? In Paris? I've never seen that much black and gray in my life!
I'm with her prairie tomboy meets Parisian chic!!! I love it!
PERFECTION! Her thin frame is perfect for swaddling and baggy clothes. And she really knows how to frame her wonderful face.
http://lucasjonesart.blogspot.com
Like others I don't much care for the first look and I agree that it is far too redolent of the 80's. The second look I love, a relaxed and feminine take on menswear. I love the lace up shoes and her pants, which with their tapered cut have the look of jodhpurs. All in all in both photos, she reminds me of Molly Ringwald.
Parisiennes not afraid of color? I beg to differ, unless by color she means taupe.
where the fade line begins on her jeans... is that sunlight? i see the same line on the jacket she is wearing..
anyways, i've always despised denim with denim, the "Canadian Suit" if you will. but this woman pulls it off, and if there's such a thing as 'prairie tomboy meets Parisian chic' then she is the total embodiment of it!
xx
another gorgeous post, Sartorialist
I really like how you've questioned them, most of the time, when browsing through blogs, I never find names of models and people, and I get disappointed, but to see this, I am trés trés happy.
Oh I love those style profiles! Thank you very much, Scott.
Love the top picture look...
Mnnnn, i'm not a big fan of those pants, but the upper bod on the 2nd pic iz awesome :D

http://pewpewbangbang.isgreat.org
style profile-two thumbs up! i am always impressed with ppl who can name off designer names as they are close friends.
Maison Chaplin." Don't you read Vogue?"
You are not serious with that question I hope. People with personal style do not need Vogue to tell them how to dress.
love love love the profiles. everyday, interesting people. making connections through style and digital photographs. I think our world would be a better place if we learned a little bit more about the people we see everyday :)
I don't know about the gear in the top shot. Can I phone a friend?
Pietro
Simply a beautiful girl with just great taste. And she drinks whiskey to boot! Make mine a double!
She has fantastic style. I love her denim on denim especially. I had reposted this photo to my blog when it came out (credited to you of course) and it is nice to know about the gal behind the style.
Love her pink/ red lipstick
Gaelle

She seems lovely
http://www.sharifaknows.blogspot.com/
possibly the best shade of lipstick ever. perfectly suited to her outfit.
and i love her comment on silhouette as basis of style. i do the same!
Canadian tux? Haha...
Anyway wonderful pictures. And As for Copenhagen street style - well mr. Sartorialist you should pencils us into your busy schedule. We do try our best you know. But come in June that's the prettiest time a year if you ask me.
I couldn't agree more regarding Florence oosing of casual elegance.
Wow, somebody should tell her how cool and quirky she is. I don't think she realizes it.
Yay, we are treated to inner-views now. I dig the denim on denim.
Nice one :)
yes, yes, it is beautiful but what about the shoes?? where are the shoes from? I am a recent convert to the sartorialist so I am sure this question gets asked a lot in the comment section but does it ever get answered?
The all denim plus the lace up boots is very 1990, and the hat is very Blossom!
Nice girl, nice pictures
They both look good but my style goes with the 1st picture! Love it!

KA-VOGUE-GAY-RA
KA-VOGUE-GAY-RA
I do like the style in the first picture. I think Denim on denim is very difficult, but by her excellent selection of size and color, it looks so fashionable.
Simple but different from others.
Rich, classic, unpretentious.
bring on the interviews!
por favorrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
"Blossom", that is what the first pic reminds me off!!! Thanks for nailing it Anonymous.
The second look is OK, although I’m not a big fan of such pants and the whole ‘bag lady’ thing. I don’t like anything about the first outfit though: the baggy boyfriend jeans make her look short-legged and chubby (although she’s not), denim colors are very 90s, the denim on denim thing is also very 90s or just country, the boots have a totally different vibe than the rest of the outfit. I mean, I can sort of see what she was trying to do here but in my opinion it just didn’t work on a number of different levels.
I love this site, I love New York, I love Newyorkers...
wow they both look amazing!
I personally don't understand why she "hides" under all those mountains of layers.
Hiiiiiiiii
Good looking I loved her look in the both pictures.i love her comment on silhouette as basis of style.

I loved her look in the first picture its a great personality
She look great!
I just love her
I like her personality very much.
love her 2nd outfit
www.jetblackdye.blogspot.com
I love the second look!
Top Picture - did you pose her like a Dylan album cover on purpose?
Plain and simple: I just really enjoyed this style profile. I loved her responses, especially "Prairie tomboy meets Parisian chic". And, still enjoying your blog so much.Thank you.
Yes! I LOVE the style profile. Please do more of these!
The first look is way too 80's for me, except for the boots, which are hot! The second look works all around.
"they're not afraid to wear color in Paris"???? Omg, you MUST be kidding. I just got back from 2 weeks there, wearing my red trench, and I stuck out like a sore thumb. This interview must be old, or the girl must be color-blind. In Paris, the women wear black, brown, muted tones and earth tones. But color? Um, no. Maybe at the offices of fashion magazines. But every day, in the streets? No.
Love these features. Please do more...
Surely she means Lou Doillon...?
love it!
I'm Canadian but I have no idea what a Canadian tuxedo is. I love the look in the first picture with the denim on denim, which I'm not brave enough to do myself. It works because the shades of denim are different. I would like to see a black belt on the outfit.
1) I have to agree with everyone who disagreed with the "not afraid to wear color" comment. If you want color (or less stuffy style in general), go to Barcelona. I wore a brightly colored vintage dress in Paris once, and got stared at and asked if it was a "costume".
2) Someone may have already caught this, but it's Lou Doillon, not Dillon. She's Jane Birkin's daughter.
Love her outfits, especially the last one.
I see Sofia Coppola, what about the others?
Her style inspires me. More style profiles please! :)
To Anonymous @ 7:51 PM: The boots in the second photo are Chloé Silverado (from A/W 2006-7).
To The Blasphemous Fiendess: I'm from Canada too, and have never heard the term "Canadian Suit/Tuxedo" before. I guess that's because I live in Montreal. Too funny!
I think what she may mean about Paris is that they're not afraid to wear one strong colour. At a time. With black.
in paris the most color you ever see are in the skies, not in the clothes.
her style is effortless and I love the layers in the second picture.
I really really like her style.Perhaps what makes the outfits even more convincing is the fact that she looks so goddamn happy wearing her them. And comfortable. She may say her style is 'shambolic' but it definitely comes together.
magazines in the bathtub...agreed. why is it such a perfect thing?...and love her description of her style. i think it describes her look perfectly!
Beige is playing very nicely on her body. Modern, comfortable, warm and attractive. Beige is for me... like a.... queen.
Lou Doillon's*
Love her style
